jagman
When I bought my property here in VA I wanted a shop that was 40' X 60'. The folks I bought the building from called and told me that a customer reneged on his building and that I could have it for the same price but it was slightly larger. I negotiated for some addons and got it. It is 54' X 83'. When my architect saw the "barn" she told me that my wife would not appreciate living in a house smaller that the barn. The house plans were revised to a 4500 square foot ranch on a full basement. Took me three years to build. When I moved I brought seven cars down with me and five are still in the shop being very slowly worked on. Three bays are now mower repair bays and one is a lift bay. Not enough room in the barn! 2 Quote Link to comment

Duncan
Some of you guys have nice space. I live very close to the beach in SoCal, and I have a closet in comparision to some of you. The above is the paint and body, electrical, and mechanical shop. There's a shed right behind the backdoor in the garage, and I have a compressor out there and there is an air connection on each of the three walls. In front of my '40 Ford, I have mig and acetylene welding rigs. If you look closely on top of the cabinets on the back wall, you can see my metal chop saw, portable sheet metal brake, and other metal fab stuff. My wife still parks in here, too 🙂 A spare room is the upholstery dept. and recording studio... 8 Quote Link to comment

bananahamuck
Spent every October since I can ever remember in this wherehouse.. Now, since I inherited a 3rd of families cranberry farm it is now MY main wearhouse . probably built it the 20s or 30s as you can see if you look close ,, mostly from used wood . there is about 15’ behind where I’m taking picture very little heavy mechanic work other than machinery maintenance because literally tons of food is processed thru it. we had a much larger Garage/shop/wherehouse at parents home place but sister sold it as she lives way to far away to farm that property . extra cranberry pics for prosperity This tote is all donated to Coastal Harvest of grays Harbor because it wasn’t good enough for fresh fruit ( to bruised and dented ) and not enough to fit in 4’x4’ wooden juice knockdown ..it was End of season so no more was in field to pick JuanEar for size Edited November 2, 2022 by bananahamuck 10 Quote Link to comment

Chopper Jim
I have a 30x40 garage. Still to small. Needs lots of cleaning. At least the 2 motorcycles & the Chevelle are in there. And all the tools also. 4 Quote Link to comment

And all of my tools including a tire machine and balancer. It'll be a bit tight I'm sure but if you look at my other posts you'll see I'm used to that. Quote Link to comment
Aaron Datsun
@Duncan How do you like that Consew? I am looking at a very similar one for around $500. The wife needs new seat covers in her car, and I have been wanting a nice sewing machine to do some leather work for some time (I am not a great @ it, but would love to get into it) Quote Link to comment

I’ve got an older consew, works great! 1 Quote Link to comment

I agree with Draker. Make sure it's a walking foot machine, and it has a reverse function, and Bob's your uncle. If I can help, send me a PM.. Edited November 4, 2022 by Duncan Quote Link to comment

Draker
Small update. Waiting for garage doors to be installed and working on electrical service. In the mean time the fleet is dry. The other 2 are in my garage until the garage doors are installed. 11 Quote Link to comment
KELMO
Been wanting to do this for a while now. The lot just north of me sold recently so I used that as motivation. This will be a good place to store crap that really doesn't need to be inside. It will be about 80 linear feet of propanel attached to the skeleton pictured here. 5 Quote Link to comment

EDM620
Recently moved and am taking the opportunity to lay out the new 29x24 garage to hopefully fit everything from the old 23x27 one, I've gained a few sq ft but lost cu ft as my old place had a 10' ceiling. Can't get back that high storage space. Gotta get stuff sorted - much progress since this pic was taken. I find Kraft PB jars are excellent for sorting hardware - consistent size with full width neck/lid. From the man door in. Out of view is my MIG and Arc weld equipment and you can just see the handle on my bench vise. Heater is oversized and noisy as shit. Lots of things live in different places than before, so cabinets are labeled to eliminate the search... Moving my shop records into the shop. Space now complete with computer. Got some heavy cracks in the concrete engineered to swallow small bolts with ease. Mobile racking so what I need is closer to hand. Still not enough room, have to wait until spring so I can build a shed for some of the bigger equipment that I just don't have room for (rotisserie, gantry, gas welding equipment, engine stand, ...) but at least I'm no longer storing the wife's crap in my garage. Finally resuming work on the project. 6 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Looks like a great space! I was gonna say, I bet that heater is nice. Too loud though eh? 1 Quote Link to comment
EDM620
That heater is noiser than shit and overkill. My prior shop had more cu ft space and the heater was 1/2 the size - quieter too. Come springtime I gotta either fix it (gas line doesn't meet code anyway) or replace with smaller unit. Entryway door also needs to be replaced, PO put in a door that's 2x4 framed into a 2x6 wall. Kinda like working on a Datsun that the PO didn't know much about cars and "fixed" everything himself! 😝 1 Quote Link to comment

I'd considered that, have a few pieces of some nice shiny aluminum extrusions that would do the job but the door sill is unsupported the way the 1D10T installed the door frame, so I gotta change/fix that anyway. All kinds of that "quality" of work I've discovered since buying this house, PO was a "carpenter" apparently... Quote Link to comment
