Used lifts are cheap if you can find them. I've bought three used lifts, all Rotary brand, for less than $1500 each. Right now I have a four post lift, mainly for storage, and a two post Rotary.

Here are some pics of my shop. It's a 40x60 steel building, with a 16x16 front door and a 10x10 side door. I bought the building in 2008 for $27k and all in, including concrete, wiring and upgrades, has cost me about $60k. That's just the building, not tools. With the current layout, I can fit up to nine vehicles inside, and I've got 720 feet of upstairs including a 240 sq ft office. By far, the best addition to the shop has been the upstairs mezzanine, which I built in 2019, using 12" steel beams and 4" square columns.

When framing the office, we used 2x6 studs for added insulation, and double sheared the walls so I could hang stuff anywhere on the outside or on the inside without worrying about finding studs. It's got cedar lap siding and is made to look like an old train station ticket office.

I love the look of the office.

Both of my lifts I bought from Craigslist used as well.  Two post is a used Rotary and the 4 post is some other brand (I think a Triumph) but it's not labeled.

I suppose I am showing off a bit.  I'm proud of what I have, and it's all paid for. And it's 230ft from the house, which I suppose isn't far enough...

The office didn't come out exactly as I had envisioned it, but I was spending so much time on it, I had to throw in the towel and call it done. One other aspect of the shop in which I am particularly proud is my stickers, signs, posters and old junk. Like the beer fridge, which I reserve for cool stickers only. I keep adding to the junk out in front of the shop with antique stuff like you'd see in an old auto repair shop painting. There's a vintage tire machine and some old Ford 16" wheels out there now, as well as some doors from 1940's trucks.

Yes, I geek out on "decorating" the shop, but it serves me well. The only two things I can't handle in the shop are paint ad upholstery.

You and I could be fast friends if we lived near each other.

Archer Brothers racing sticker has to be somewhat rare.  I met with them a bit when they came to pick up their Eagle Talon race cars when I worked for Diamond Star/Mitsubishi.

I'll have to post some more pictures of all my junk when I get a chance.  I need a bigger shop as my actual car work space is about half of yours.  A mezzanine in a tall building is a great plan.

One doesn't need a big shop to build cool stuff. I've always romanticized the idea of having one of those small garages like you see in the UK. My dad's shop was a single car separate unit which we put dormers in the roof so we could install a two post lift.

We obviously have a lot in common. Not many people know who Bobby and Tommy Archer are.

Here's my dad's shop at their old house.

I think bigger is better, but I am out of space lol

Work is ongoing. I'm slowly insulating the shop with 1.5 foamboard, covered with OSB. Going to look at a scissor lift this weekend which should aid in that effort.

You bought the scissor lift? How much?

I need a bucket lift for tree trimming and gutter cleaning, but I can't find one for a good price.

This one was $4k. It was the cheapest one out there. I tested the batteries beforehand.  I have a lot of plans that would require me to rent for several months, so i just bought one. I’ll probably sell when I’m done. So far it been incredibly useful. I got some trees that need trimming as well.
