Oh dear.....

Riverbend in Springfield is pretty good at getting emergency patients in, my aunt ended up there few times and they took her in very quickly, same with few friends that had emergency medical attention needed....but like with everything....it's one of those exceptions to the rule plus the fact that Eugene/Springfield has a population of under 200k.....that helps.

Getting a patient into a room is far different from administering care. In fact, they start billing when they get you in a room. Even if the patient needs nothing more than some ibuprofen, they will make you wait in that room getting billed. Insurance cost break starts at two hours. The Hospital will often have patients in a room for exactly that long. Unless, like me, you walk the fuck out pissed off. Fuck hospitals. They are great for car accidents, emergency surgeries, resuscitation, And a few other critical needs. But people need to not go there for other shit. You need stitches? Go to a clinic/physician, or get a suture kit. You can buy online. It's a great skill to have. Fever? Cold batch, fever meds. People with sprained ankles and cold fuck up our standard of care.

I can flood this thread with tons of Canadian gripes about socialized hospitals.

One interview of how her daughter losing both legs because of government scheduling or saying her illness isn't severe enough to warrant care. Yet the girl ended up an amputee because of socialist system red tape.

The poor still get fucked Jeff.

The difference between my opinion and yours.. Mine actually has first hand experience and not third party stories.

My Honey Bunny Bear has worked in a few ER's and now works at Harbor View in Seattle.  EVERY nurse wants single payer. I can get you never ending stories of people getting fucked at the hospital. The hospital isn't the point the point is anyone should be able to have a family doctor and prevent possible hospital visits.  Thank to Reagan ER's have to take EVERYONE so we end up paying for all the bums and poor people anyways.  We as a country pay more per person than any other country and have a shorter life expectancy.  I'm sure Mike wouldn't trade a places for a second!  We our their Mexico.....

Here is a good ER story.  Guy looses hand not because the hospital couldn't save it, but because a guy who tried to kill himself made it to the hospital seconds earlier with life threatening injuries.  So he went first and the other dude who hurt his hand working lost it because the doctors were busy with the other guy.  Damn private system!!!  Or should he be happy he didn't an infection and dye?

Also in Canada you can buy fancy insurance if you want.

Also I'd trade wait times for everyone being able to get the help they need.  No one should be forced into debt over an illness.

In most cases there are programs that cover any amount of medical issues for anyone that cannot afford it. I have been through emergency rooms and had 2 surgeries covered because I asked to speak with the hospital financial dept. I was unemployed and had 0 income at the time and no prospects due to the economy. I never went into debt because the hospital has programs funded by generous people, not the government. All hospitals have these type of programs all one has to do is ask and be poor enough to qualify.

Pumpkin Dave had heart surgery through medicare due to his circumstances. This is the govt version of the above.

There are avenues available in this country for anyone to take advantage of, we live in a giving and generous place.

I tell people wanting free college the same thing. There are plenty of programs for free college if one can't afford it. Get good grades and even more free college opportunities are available.
Hell join the military and get a free ride. Me, I finally paid off my student loans last year. :)

I think there should be a maximum wage aka 90% taxable income over a million or two a year.

Why would anyone work hard/smart enough to make a million only to get paid 100,000... that is absolutely ridiculous.

How about a 15% tax on everyone over 20,000 a year and the government lives within it's means.
Or we could get all 1817 up in here and the govt could fund itself with only import taxes. Worked great until the govt had to pay for the civil war... ;)

Yeah I lived with that shit system while watching my little brother die.  Why not improve it?  Don't you sell KA motor mounts?  Why switch to a KA if the L can move your datsun?

I love Bernie's idea for collage tuition.  A small tax on wall street that will only effect the dicks who fucked out economy.  K-12 although nice, collage is important.

I've never met a lazy millionaire.   Work is there drug, FDR taxed the hell out of the rich.  I do agree going back to a import tax system would be way way better!

I just find it strainge that Mat's one complaint about Bernie has to do with medical insurance.

Yeah, I think making collages is really cool and important too Jeff.  Especially if they're made on a big piece of canvas after you've smoke a huge bowl!  Like wow, man!  :D

I'm all for improving the medical $ystem. I don't see why a $3 ace bandage is $25 at the hospital, maybe we could work on bringing the costs down instead more taxes that just increase the cost of everything. Remove the middle man (insurance or government) and prices will go down.

Other than costs, driven by lawsuits and government interference, our medical care is some of the best in the world.

You are talking about removing the incentive to make the money in the first place. Tax me 90% and I am out, there is no reason for me to even try to make a million.

Now you're talkin'. Apply this and you would have 'free' medical. I'm saying that along with your 'inalienable rights and freedoms' include medical benefits. Your government should protect and invest in it's people. Up to 18 and above 65 need this. In between it's assumed you are an earning citizen who is paying into it with taxes and at the same time may be less in need of it.

I don't see how anyone can work and /or have a family and not have the safety net of medical coverage.... and then get bent for me suggesting your government should provide it 'free'. What? you don't deserve it? Cut your arm off but don't sew it on because socialism?

Private medical insurance is profit driven. Government insurance (in theory) would be less.

I say fuck income tax altogether. Why not just raise sales tax across the board on everything, within reason? Then everyone pays an equal amount regardless of where you get your income.

Hospitals charge $25 for a $3 ace bandage because when it is submitted to an insurance company, that insurance company says they will allow, i.e. payout, only 3 to 4 dollars for said ace bandage. It's just a vicious circle.

It's not the socialism part. We get the concept. It's the fact that nothing is cheap from this cavernous money hole we send tax dollars to.

SSI worked beautifully great at one time, then came along a greedy little politician that made the money saved available to be raided for influential projects. Another tool to pander for votes.

Nothing is off limits to the political class. Most entitled bunch around.
