What other skills/hobbies do you guys have, Besides wrench'n on cars.

Recommended Posts

Every once and a while I hear of someone on Ratsun doing some cool side project, or find out one of the guys is some DIY brain surgeon in his spare time. I looked around for a thread covering this, but couldn't find anything current or remotely worthy of representing the width and breadth of our Rat peeps. Sooooo...

Show us your mad skills here Yo.

We need pictures or it never happened.

Masturbating count as a skill or hobby? Do ya really want pictures?

Nah, seriously, besides wrenching as a technician, well formerly before I gave it up after having my all my tools and tool cabinet @#$%&?! stolen while I was between jobs last year... I am now an ASE Certified parts specialist at Autozone. Not a real job, actually it is an awful job with low pay and under 30 hours per week. I am currently looking for a job selling parts for a new car dealership, that's where the money is!

But besides a lifetime of car related work I took a few classes in high school a long time ago that I actually got a lot from. Home ec., cooking, wood shop, and carpentry. I can cook my butt off, I love to find and try out new recipes, matter of fact I do most of the cooking at home. The home ec. class taught me a lot about measurements with ingredients. I never use measuring cups or spoons, I can measure by eye and weight. And the wood shop and carpentry taught me a lot as well. I built my own front stairs, rear deck, and a storage building including cutting rafters old school style, no trusses for me! And have made a bunch of improvements and repairs in my house. However, unless it's a faucet, I don't do plumbing, and unless it's a ceiling fan or light fixture I don't mess with electricity either! Nor do I climb up on the roof... here is why... in case anyone wonders why I didn't pursue carpentry and construction as a career, I did. Right after high school I got a roofing job with a friend of my dad's company. Had an accident where I fell through the rotten roof, fell through the attic, and managed to somehow land on my feet on the living room floor.  I was unharmed except for a gash in my leg that went from my knee to my hip that required multiple stitches. Tried to go back to work the following week after I healed up, and was suddenly terrified of heights!

No pics either, never really taken any!

I'm pretty vocal about the metal I pander. I machine stuff for peoples Datsun and anything people want to pay for. I also SolidWorks the best I can.

www.MD-Machinist.com is my site.

I'm like the BASF of Datsun. I don't always design the product I just make it better ;)

I also design the stuff too..... Smoke that's some manly stuff you work with.

Wish I could post some of the stuff from one of the last big projects, but had to sign something like a confidentiality agreement and whatnot and it's not worth having the pics come back to me...

I design airplane tooling in Catia for a living.

Let me see if I can get this one right...

So you put some jet fuel at one end of a runway with this in the middle.  Then hide in the bushes.

When a wild airplane comes to investigate the jet fuel, he goes through here on teh landing and WHAMMO!

You pull the yellow strap and she's harnessed!

Now comes the tricky part.  You gotta get a test pilot up on there to hang on until she stops bucking around so you can get her back to the corral.

I've poked at catai drawings for 40 year old tooling, I like the hand drawn and scanned onto the computer stuff more.

I build airplanes for a life and I seem to be a parent on the side but the roles are really the other way around. Hobbies include biking, playing with play doh, colouring and um..... Yeah, being a parent

And my datsun when the little one let's me get away and play with my toys instead of hers

Board drawings have way more character for sure, but hitting update is way easier in Catia than erasing and redrafting

She's a cutie, my granddaughter takes up a lot of my wrenching time. :)

Smoke,

Any idea of the weight of those anvils?  They look massive.  That power hammer is AWESOME! What brand is it?  What kind of things do you make with all of it?

I guess my hobby is painting cars and some restoration of old cars , really don't like wrenching ,wiring and fabbing is ok ,I have been taking college classes or renting a spray booth for some time ,and need my own for classic cars only not fender repair like body shop , so here it is , need some more funds for filters lights and electrical work ,but really want to do some two tones ,pearls and maybe some custom stuff in my own booth so there is no rushing .[url=http://s1183.photobucket.com/user/Alleycatgarage/media/104_2151.jpg.html]104_2151.jpg
