HRH
Meh, not the same. I want to be at least 600 mph faster than the earth rotates. ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
So relative to the crust, would in a plane count or are you aiming for some Bonneville action? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Only at the equator is it near 1,000 MPH. If you were to exceed 25 times that anywhere on the surface you would escape into outer space. Quote Link to comment
HRH
Plane is too easy. I'd say Bonneville would be a nice idea. 1 Quote Link to comment
DaBlist
are we talking about my people (native merikins) who immigrated to this country from Asia via the Bering Land Bridge? you know, the folks who took over the land and routinely killed and/or enslaved any other tribes not themselves? False, Mericans invented evil against other people groups. Hitler is a fairy tale. They never found his body 3 Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
I hope I will have reached 600 mph before we go. Just sayin' ;) Just go 60 ten times. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Plane is too easy. I'd say Bonneville would be a nice idea. If they ever let anybody run there again. Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
If they ever let anybody run there again. They don't? Is it not a big ass flat dry lake? Do they really have to "let" you can't you just go play on your own? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Likely an environmental thing. Isn't it shrinking? or something. No you can't just go there and go fast the 'track' has to be 'groomed'. 1 Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
You know the drought is bad when a dry lake is shrinking Quote Link to comment
q-tip
It a sediment contamination thing, the Dirt from the surrounding hills is getting washed down i to the salt and fucking it all up. They didn't run speed week this year or bub. Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
Save the salt.....because we might just run out! Quote Link to comment
fritzdixxon
There will be lots of salt when the oceans dry up. Hey there's a good idea let's boil off ocean water take the collected salt to Bonneville and the fresh water to irrigate California. If we can build a tall enough chimney like all the way to space tall we won't have to worry about polluting the atmosphere, so lets burn garbage instead of contaminating the ground in landfills its a win win win win!! 1 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
10 gallons of sea water makes approximately a pound of salt (if I recall correctly) we would be making fresh clean salt to replenish Bonneville and help all those people living in coastal areas from rising sea levels, win win! TENDRIL
I was just wondering that the other day how much sea water I would need to harvest a realistic amount of salt Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
3.5% salt* by weight. Or 3.5 g of salt per liter times 3.785 L per gallon is 13.25 g per gallon or 0.47 oz per gallon or 4.7 oz per 10 gallon. So 16/4.7=3.4, therefore more like 34 gallons to make a pound of salt assuming 100% efficiency. Interestingly, the salinity of blood is same as sea water. Note: *Sea water also has many other salts other than sodium chloride and significant amounts of bicarbonates. This also assumes water taken at sea level at normal temperatures (~25 C). KoHeartsGPA
This guy made 1.2kg from 32 litres, results will vary depending upon salinity levels of area of collection. Quote Link to comment
Dguy210
This guy made 1.2kg from 32 litres, results will vary depending upon salinity levels of area of collection. Depends on how much residual water is left as that will add weight, also salt is not the only dissolved substance in sea water. 1 Quote Link to comment

a.d._510_n_ok
I wish you cali folks would do something to save the salton sea. they say aerators would prevent the fish from dying off en masse every year. for some reason the environmentalists oppose saving it. Quote Link to comment
Draker
We could incorporate this into our 'Fish lives matter' campaign. 5 Quote Link to comment

Not many species of fish can withstand the combination of the high temperature and salinity levels of Salton Sea. Quote Link to comment

Neil Armstrong holds the fastest flight record, in doing so, while testing out a plane he got stuck in the atmosphere.. he then had to wait to slow down so that air can catch back up with him to push him back down.. he had said that he tried everything he could try to get back down to earth.. it took him a minute or so to realize he needed to slow down.
