I cant even explain the love i have for this car. In the past week that I've owned i have driven it more than i have slept! She's getting a new timing chain put on right now and other than that this car is solid! Bob did an amazing job with this car and I couldn't be happier with her. They kill the look of the car in my opinion and from what I hear spacers are never really a good idea. U guys ever hear of using an 85 ford escort filter? Im nowhere near my 510 right now or I would take a pic of mine...works regardless of SU size.... and waaaay cheaper than tuna cans. There is a small benefit to housing both carbs in the same filter. Basically u get stubstacks for flanges, an 85 escort filter (oval and about 1.5in deep), and some aluminum (get extra to make a heat shield) Trace the filter onto the aluminum (make 2 frnt and back)... and make a few spots with extra aluminum for bent bits to hold in the filter put the stub stacks on one and mark out holes to drill for each carb (be sure to measure dist between carb holes. etc..) assemble back plate and cut out front plate... you will drill 2 holes in front plate to screw it into 2 holes in stub stacks to hold it in. Mine uses 2 bolts welded back to back so that I have threads sticking out the front plate holes and just have to tighten it down with nuts. The BIGGEST improvement in my SUs drive-ability was making a heat shield that separates the carbs from the exhaust heat.... just more aluminum cut to fit the space, drilled to mount to the front of the mani behind the carbs, and bent to shield the bottom of the carbs. Keeps the gas from heating up in the bowls, stopped the shitty behavior around town and stuck in traffic. Again, I KNOW some pics would be good here, but Im stuck on a train and killing time... best I can do for now. 2 Quote Link to comment
