I'm not a huge fan of swapping dashes. But it's your car. Swapping in the 240sx speedo and tach would be sweet.

Glad you're not a fan ... it is his car ... his build ;) ... no on 240sx gauges .... s30 gaugez

Skib ... love the s30 dash in there man ... one of the top off features of an s30 transferred in goodness... curves ...

240Z dashes are seeeexy

Not sure how I missed this build. Skib, glad to see you have a Dime now.

As for the dash, I thought about a Z dash for the wagon, i just didn't like the idea of a square car with a rounded dash. Figured it would look weird. I need to see some more pics and some detail on how you made it fit please.

Z dash is in.

spent the last 6 hours hacking up the frames, measuring, mocking, welding, trimming the sides of the dash pad and it bolts in.

still plenty of work to be done with it but its bolted in and mocked up for now.

pics in a few. gotta go wash all this fucking dash pad dust out of my skin <_<

its deff an involved project, but heres a quick over view.

510 frame and the Z dash

gotta gut the Z dash

I used the 68 defrost cowl.

a lot skinnier and has a curved dash side instead of being flat.

if you use the reg one you have to cut to much of the Z dash out to fit

and youl lose your mounts for the speedo and tach.

green line is where you would cut it for the 68

and the red line is where youd cut it for the regular one.

big difference in the amount of material and frame taken out.

hacking the defrost cowl/firewall mounts section of the 510 dash frame off

Z dash pad is cut to fit the 510 defrost cowl

Z frame is cut away

0305122122.jpg

our hacked off piece of the 510 frame is then welded to the Z frame

and its bolted in

there is still plenty to do tho.

the sides of the dash bolster out and have to be shaved down

still some shaving to do and then they will be glassed to make it one clean piece again.

then Ill be trimming a new dash cap to fit the modded dash pad so itl be a nice clean new dash

theres a decent chunk to cut off and a bit of massaging the lower part of the frame.

but the Z dash is like 2 in wider at the widest spot (bottom of the frame)

DatsunVille.

Skib, how would a factory Z console fit in there? I would assume it would have too big of a gap between the console and dash.

Any thoughts of checking that out?

there would be a larger gap than in a Z because the dash is higher up from the trans tunnel than in a Z

not sure if it would be too a big a gap tho, Id like to run something that has no gap.

Prob be keeping my eye out for another evo console or something similar.

That evo console looks good with the Z dash. Are those fresh air vents just like the 510? You should try and move those in a bit. What are you going to do about the heater?

yeah they are. but in the Z they pull air from the middle vent so they have ducting that goes to the middle of the dash.

Ill be hooking them up to the heater instead so I can have some nice hot air blowing out of them

and I never use the fresh air vents anyway.

Ill be using the stock 510 heater, I made sure to leave all the brackets for it still attached.
