Kirden
Busy day... fixin allll freakin day _DSC0031 by metalmonkey47, on Flickr Hey bro, someone took your bed... It all seriousness glad to see all this work. Work decided that it would be fun to ruin a great weekend of working on Datsuns by making me come in and stare at a computer for 10 hours Friday night... Oh well, more datsun money. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Dang I missed a LOT  Simple-you have more radiator OUTSIDE the shroud, than you do INSIDE. so what i see you saying is: "hey matt, you didnt get a big enough fan... " Z, you dont gotta beat around the bush... were all adults here... or at least id hope.. what is it? a 10 or a 12in? i just ordered a 12in.. will it be 'too small'? It's a 12in fan. Run 2 10s? Can't be done The radiator CORE only measures out to 13x19, so there's not enough room for a 14in fan, OR two 10's. I was going to try two 10's in opposing corners, but it wouldn't have fit between the tanks. So far, the weather here has been UP to 75 degrees and idling in traffic or banging hard on it I haven't had any overheating issues with a 192 t-stat. When the LZ goes in, it'll get a 180. I'm not concerned about overheating. It's the absolute largest this radiator will accept. Down the road, I'll order an aluminum, or find a larger radiator that I can fit under the hood, and mount more/larger fans on that. Even in GA's brutal southern heat, I've seen cars with larger motors and smaller fan's do just fine. Now onto business. We pulled the bed over the weekend and into late Tuesday, were working on finishing up the gas tank repairs, and stripping the frame and underside of the bed. Frame got some cheapo paint/primer, until the paint is done on the truck. Don't want over-spray on expensive good paint. The bed got a heavy coat of primer (not the rattle can stuff) and some satin black paint. Should be good for a few decades I hope. Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
An update on the LZ: I've got just about all my parts together now. Just need to get a flywheel turned, and assemble the motor, which is happening tomorrow night so expect some awesome pictures. For now, some teasers of Master_o_turbonics awesome fab work. Rather then re-using the tiny port L16 intake, it's getting a ported U67 manifold. EGR Ports welded up All the extra tabs/BS are all going to be GONE. And it's gonna be ported to match the 1.5'' intake ports on the A87 peanut. Quote Link to comment

Sealik
It's gonna be a freakin blast  Some Nismo stuff under the valve cover. With Z car dual valve springs Specs on cam? Assuming the "325" on the cam is not duration??? DD will be a bitch if so. Pinkish aluminum retainers....can't remember if they are the 190-230...or the 240+? Lift is over .500....you have ... Nismo Comp Valve Springs M-99996-M1046 Coil bind at .970 280lbs/in OD 1.34" assem height 1.72" seat pressure 120lbs. Insert query.... Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
This is gonna be a fun motor  Gimmie a few weeks ish, give or take... and I'll have this guy in, with the help of the always awesome Master_o_turbonics! Specs on cam? Assuming the "325" on the cam is not duration??? DD will be a bitch if so. Pinkish aluminum retainers....can't remember if they are the 190-230...or the 240+? The cam is the same one discussed here: http://community.ratsun.net/topic/31098-help-identifying-a-racer-brown-cam/ Not quite .500, but relatively close. According to Datsunwizard ''325R is 275 degrees at .025"lift, 250 degrees at .050" lift and .475" lift at zero lash.'' The motor's gonna be an absolute torque monster. I feel like I am gonna be capable of around 150whp+ with the right carb setup. This motor has a very high potential with a small turbo and an open chamber head and EFI. Or well tuned carb. 1 Quote Link to comment
I'm BLUE
DTP should like this  Like ??? LIKE ???? How bout LOVE !!!!! :hyper: :hyper:  Hawt Damn boi ! If you do 150RWHP ... you'll have as much horsepower as me L28ET ! At least I think ? I have that much at the wheels ... maybe much less  Quote Link to comment
metalmonkey47
Can I safely call it a race motor without fear of being flamed? Like ??? LIKE ???? I'm BLUE
errrrmmaaahhhh geerrrrdddd .... love the block and head shots ! Looks clean and you took time to actually paint it right. Those valve springs make me :D Stroker + Dual valve-springs + bigger zvalves + hotter camshaft + side-drafts... Those valve springs make me :D Stroker + Dual valve-springs + bigger zvalves + knary camshaft + side-drafts... I think it's safe to say you haz race motor... without da flames   Haha DTP you so excited  Actually wasn't the one to do the block paint, that was all M_o_T! Dude is a superb engine builder and an even better fabrication-er! He's gonna get so much good coming to him for this motor. I'm like a little kid in a candy shop everytime I walk into the garage the last few days  It may not get side drafts, for drivability purposes. I've been looking at a 38/38 outlaw, but we'll see how it runs on the 32/36 first  Quote Link to comment
Sealik
Yes....Datsunwizard knows his shit. Asked him many a Q. Actually......I initially ran the 32/36 on my LZ to break it in ....pulled it. Bought a brand new 38..... L16 IM ported to the U67....ran it....pulled it. Then bought a K14 and fitted some 46mm SUs on it......big difference Quote Link to comment
converted_to_datsun
Darn you... This makes me wanna build an lz even more now :w00t: I say you can't call it a race motor without some proper side drats! Seriously put some 46mm round tops or dual side drafts of some other kind.
