The Choice Card program, created by Congress in the wake of VA’s 2014 wait time scandal, is one of several department programs for veterans to seek medical care outside department medical centers.

 

Veterans who face lengthy wait times for medical appointments or live more than 40 miles from VA facilities can use the available funds to seek private care instead.

 

It was set to expire on Aug. 7, even though about $1 billion in funding is still available through the program. Now, VA officials will be able to continue outside referrals through the Choice program until the funding runs out, which is expected in late 2017.

That's too bad about the VA.  My son asked me about joining the military during HS and wife and I said no.  Why, they, the VA and military, does not take care of it's own.  A lot come back from Iraq and the Middle east with symptoms of PTSD, homeless and jobless.

Their workers are the most arrogant feds I know and that speaks volumes. DAV is good people but VA workers act like you are interrupting their playtime with their fellow fed stooges. They will bite the head off an elderly dude with a "Purple Heart Recipient" hat and Vietnam vet shirt on and then mock the guy to their cronies as he stands there all because he asked someone to repeat what they said.

 

Think of the worst footage you've ever seen of corrupt staff in a news sting of a nursing home and that's the public language and attitude VA workers have towards ambulatory vets who come into the clinic. I don't even like to think about what happens to the bedridden vets in the VA hospitals.

 

VA says it's almost impossible to fire their employees because of federal union regs but when one of their employees in Cali went over their head to the GAO (Government Accounting Office) and told them that his office had lost thirty cars VA canned that ass super fast!

 

On a positive note, I found a trumpkin today at a nearby Goodwill! The skin color and hair are perfect!
