Madness
full race graphics would be cool too. Maybe BRE style 520? Quote Link to comment
fisch
Today is the one year anniversary of this build thread! Thanks for coming on the ride with me. :w00t: This pic says it all Bob! Thank you! You are a hero to many of us. You could have built any car you wanted, and not only did you go Datsun, but freakin 520. Damn straight! Quote Link to comment
derek
I love it! Quote Link to comment
Bob3
Bob, wouldnt it help it some if u took the tailgate off? love the truck by the way... :D I thought about that but I want to keep it stock looking. The 520 tailgate has the hinges welded on. I'm working on a bed cover. It will need to be substantial in order for the sanctioning body to allow me to run it on the track. I've welded in some tabs and cross braces that will hold 1/2" plywood, the wood will be bolted into place. It is not to bad, it looks like it will weigh around 9lbs. We'll see. I plan to work on it some this weekend. Quote Link to comment
Bob3
I need some advice on door mirrors. What do you guys think? I want them to look vintage, nothing modern looking. I need to know how much $ and where to get them. Thanks! Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
I picked up out of the J/Y some chrome 720 mirrors, But not sure how they will look. These also come in black which could be painted. Quote Link to comment
fisch
I vote for keeping them round Bob! Or how about some peep mirrors? Or I LOVE the mirrors Madness has on his rig! Or maybe you need something more aerodynamic? Quote Link to comment
Duke
I think either a bullet style like this: http://www.mooneyesusa.com/bullet-style-mirror-p-1851.html Or something like this: http://www.mooneyesusa.com/gt310-p-398.html ...would look really good. Bob, any ideas on how the roll cage is going to be designed? Quote Link to comment
LAYEDOUTB2K
I had totally forgot about this build. That thing is freakin badass! Nice work. Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
How about 67-68 GTO Mirrors http://www.carpartsdiscount.com/auto/parts/door_mirrors/exterior_mirror.html?3593=1663&utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=adv&3593=1663&3671=1002 http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=C5001-1 http://morris-minor.org/round-wingdoor-mirrors-pair-p-646.html http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=ALL76400 I Like these Quote Link to comment
72wagun
I think these are off of one of the Z cars. I'd like to get some for my 521. Quote Link to comment
crabbyone
Nope, gotta get the "Talbots"....check the Pegasus racing catalog. And a "wink" for the inside.... As an aside Bob, did you get any mph numbers on your "road test"? What a great project! The hinge pins just drive out with a drift.... Quote Link to comment
Madness
I vote for keeping them round Bob! Or how about some peep mirrors? Or I LOVE the mirrors Madness has on his rig! Or maybe you need something more aerodynamic? There's a bullet on the front.... ok, yeah, so not that aerodynamic... You could put a wing on a brick but its still going to fly like a brick  Im really a big fan of the mooneyes bullet mirrors. They would look pretty good. Quote Link to comment
fisch
OK my vote is now for this mooneye bullet! Your truck is a mix of old and new and to me these are exactly that. Modern, yet classic! Good catch Duke! (Plus you can then put a mooneyes sticker on your truck!) Quote Link to comment
ezcruiser
Hows about some bullet style? Like these: Talbot "bullet" Mirror: Elan Racing Mirrors: Another Bullet: Fender mirrors wound be nice is they worked as good as they looked... I'm not sure, never had any... You could always have a set of 4 inch peeps and replace the flat mirror with a Convex mirror. Quote Link to comment
Bob3
Thanks for the mirror advice. Here are a few pics of my bed cover. Quote Link to comment
Bob3
I built a frame for the air-dam. This is a "Mock Up" with painted card board. As soon as the snow melts, I'll run it out to the track to see if the air-dam / bed cover helps with top speed. What do you think? Quote Link to comment
Bob3
I had to show you a shot from the back.:lol::lol: Quote Link to comment
Jason
Oh no, proof that Datsun's where built from recylcled beer cans ! I think the air dam will help with the top end as will the bed cover, bonus, less lift at speed! Quote Link to comment
bonvo
i like i like alot what are you gonna do for tail lights bob? Quote Link to comment
lynchfourtwenty
ok i dont know much about top speed, but its been proven that you get better gas mileage with the tail gate on an in up position, layin the tail gate down, takin it off, or puttin a net on usual decreases the mpg... however i do believe the full bed cover got slight better milage then the normal bed.. from what i can remember it has to do with aerodynamics, the air comes up over the cab goes down in the bed, swirls around an exits through the back.. thus creating downforce.. now... as far as top speed goes, the bed cover may be the better bet, But goin around corners ect.. i would suggest leavin the truck as is... its up to you.. mythbusters ftw!
