d.p
Anyone know why someone would jb weld washers to the inside of the fan clutch or what we the f you call it? And is there a better fan the the 4 blade that I have right now? 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
My guess it was to fix an alignment issue with the belt... Maybe it's not the correct pulley for the motor.... Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
hole spacing was off a liitle and they drilled out the hub and put washers in back????? spacer????? 240 water pump to a 510 pump didn't fit the fan????? that's all I can think of 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
I got another fan pulley from a spare l16 so I’ll just use that. It does look identical to that one minus the welded washers. What about a bigger or better fan? 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Got the pan on. Slowly making progress on the motor. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Does the dip stick tube use an o ring in the block? IF not do I just hammer it back in the block and screw it in? And what keeps the crank case breather tube in the block? When I got this engine it was loosely goosey and basically fell out. Edited November 24, 2020 by d.p 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Both are just pressed or hammered in. I suspect that both are a taper fit. The paint on the dip stick would act as a gasket or seal. Put a block of wood over the block vent and tap into place. If it won't tighten, carefully hammer the end just enough to make ever so slightly oval and hammer in. Is that a rubber O ring on the block vent??? mainer311
Standard 4-blade fan is fine, especially if the clutch is removed. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Nah no o ring on the vent pipe. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Might not be enough but I would put the pipes in the freezer first 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
Ball joints and pitman arms are tapered. Even with the nuts off you need a tool or press to part them. 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Does anyone know why the dipstick has that tab with a weld-nut on it? Mine does too, and I never knew what went there. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Attaches to the block IIRC. Did yours not? And greaser my vent tube was/is loose is as shit. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
A clamp that holds the heater hose bolts to the tab on the dip stick tube. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
just pressed in both tubes. I myself would maybe put some RTV around it on the dip stick tube that Dip Stick tube is bent. all i seen are striaght also the crank case tube is for a L16 I thought you buiding a L20. those are the 90deg out the top then 90 turn on all the ones I seen Edited November 25, 2020 by banzai510(hainz) 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Hainz has only seen straight dip sticks, haha. He’s right though. Have you tried actually getting a dip stick through that? They aren’t floppy like on modern cars. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Yeah it’s an L20b with an l16 vent tube. Came like that when I bought the it. This the correct vent tube? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Datsun-L20b-Engine-Block-Crank-Case-Vent-Pipe-Tube-OEM-Power-Coated-/153998902770?_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49292 I just straightened the dip stick tube so I’m good there.
