  1. Ha... I thought this was ggpa620 s post... Welcome larry...

    Bent valve?

To add to the oil leak comment... there is only a single small diameter hole that feeds oil to the head..... its between cylinders 2 and 3.... So dont go down the replace the head gasket route to quickly.... gdat210 stated the most likely location for leaks... Maybe start with a good cleaning of the motor then you'll be able to see where the leak is better.... careful of the electrical stuff like the distributor.... dont need to cause more trouble..
  3. You wouldnt believe how I drove it around my neighborhood for testing.... No glass anywhere.... no doors, fender, hood or bed .... and I had a red gas tank strapped to my battery behind the rear axle.... every time I needed motivation i would drive to the end of the road and back then get to work....
  4. Do what you need to first to get it running, driving and stopping.... Then worry about mods.... Having a running and driving datsun that your working on cosmetics and personal touches is way more fun than staring at a project for years..... Even once I got my 521 back on the road.. (took me 4 years, after it sat for 10)... I drove around for 2 months without door glass and only half a dash and many other items that didnt stop me from driving.... even still I've been driving mine for 2 summers now and I still need some interior work and I never refinished the bed yet... I do small fixes year round and larger projects during the winter.....
  5. Probably more like 171k.... Definitely needs a good cleaning but looks really straight..... Quick bit of advice keep any old parts you pull out till you absolutely dont need them ... then something's I would still keep... Like the seat can be reupholster, even if you want buckets that bench could be gold to other 620 owner....
  6. I was gonna ask this too.... Best thing I did was change over to an internally regulated altenator.... I had similar issues, so I tested my old altenator ( not the oem) and it was fine, then I wasted money on a new regulator, then a higher output external regulated altenator and always had inconsistent voltage... when I finally did an internal regulated altenator my voltage became more stable..... Might be worth it to look into verses replacing the regulator..
  7. Dont feel bad.... only reason I know is because I did it too.....
  8. Just an idea.... if your gonna start a new build thread put it in the truck 620 section..... you'll probably get more views and help... this area might get over looked while the 620 section will get the attention of other 620 and truck owners...
  9. I dont think your charging.... Where is the actual spade connector? Is it externally mounted to the case or is it coming from the inside? I could be wrong but that might not actually be a grounding terminal.... Try removing the spade and connect it to the case or a mounting bolt and see if it starts to change ....
  10. The 620 carrier bearing with the rubber is actually fairly cheap, around $50 and easily available... Not sure but you might need a press to swap it.. The 521 carrier bearing like wayno has is obsolete so sometimes you have to do what he was saying.... Good luck on the truck... definitely looks like it's in good shape....
  11. That was my bad.... misunderstood a comment of datsunmike......
  12. I did that to my sons... used parts from a junk atv... I was going to mount 2 car batteries in it but just bought him a 2 stroke atv instead.....
  13. Most of my ideas come from lack of money and my weird idea probably from the weed.... I try to figure out ways to accomplish things..... The logical side came up with that idea.... the weed side was saying grab the wife/girlfriend's vibrator and toss it in..... but that might get you in trouble... Keep up the good work....
  14. Fyi .... not sure if your waiting for the gauge to be able to drive the truck but I believe you can ruin the o2 sensor if it's not powered while the engine is running...
  15. I have that storage box bolted down in the bed now so dont worry the stack is safe..... plenty of room for the snow blower and ramps.... plow guy keeps destroying our yard and never shows up when needed, then shows up and plows an inch of snow so I get to snow blow this year... As far as the hoop it's for my 7 year old to practice.... it will be raised over time and hopefully with a correct back board and pole.... limited space for it though.... This was just a quick and cheap solution.... i found him using a bucket on top of the trash cans at first....
  16. Here's an idea that just hit me.... Can you possibly place the blaster next to the compressor tank then join the 2 tanks with a ratchet strap or something so the vibration from the compressor motor would vibrate the blaster tank and cause the media to settle to the bottom?
  17. Should be able to get that at just about any parts store.... First I would disconnect the wire from the sender and ground it ... that should make to gauge move to full hot... could be as simple as a corroded connection... Also be careful .... some senders just screw in while another style has no threads but uses a nut to secure it...
  18. I just added an aftermarket a/c to my 521... not vintage air but similar..... I had to source all the pieces and parts separately and i had to make the brackets and lines to suit my needs.... It wasn't hard just took some preplanning..... I would think the 720 would be a little easier since there was a factory option but I doubt you'll find a retrofit kit....

    Axle swap

I was able to extract the diff fairly easily... I expected more of a challenge... My initial impression is lonewolf is getting a differential that's in real good shape.... I still want to do those other checks you talked about but so far everything seems nice and tight and spins smoothly...... oil was pretty new and nothing smelled weird.....
  20. Glad I wasn't alone in that thought
  21. Is it a little hand sand blaster with a hose to feed the material? If so try shortening the hose..... I found with the one I used having a long hose it didnt wanna feed any material....
  22. If your running real rich that could be the reason for the recent no start.... unless you in fact have no power at the coil.... Mine did that till I corrected the fuel pump psi and then the jetting.... but for me fuel pressure was the big thing..... Try fresh plugs..... Also you could bypass the ignition and temporarily put power to the coil from the battery and see if it starts.... this would tell you if the wiring or the coil was bad....
  23. I'm a little slow..... that's much funnier and I get it now...... For some reason I just saw clock your wife, and I'm thinking hit my wife.... I was thinking good luck with that..... Back to datsun stuff.....
  24. Its funny you say that... I just was doing some reading and they said the exact same thing.... As stated before I'll probably add a little more shim to the carrier bearing now and when I go and raise the front a little I wont bother worrying about correcting the carb angle.....
  25. I guess I can look into that a bit more.... If I raise the front up like I intend that will create a slight tilt toward the back.....
