  1. I hear you there..... brake fluid is awful to deal with followed buy the coolant.... And you should be able to change the slave with fluid in the line and bleed it fairly easy.... the clutch master is the pain when new and dry.....
  2. I made a priming rod out of just a small diameter rod and ground the tab into it.... mine was a fresh rebuild and I was a few months away from starting it so I wanted to circulate oil every other week, just out of caution.... probably wasnt neccessary.... Mainer311 didnt do a rebuild just a pump upgrade, so he still had plenty of oil on things..... In my opinion if this was a fresh rebuild it would be a good idea to get the oil flowing first..... I realize you have used assembly lube, but what if the pump doesnt pump? Better safe then sorry.....
  3. Well it's still letting me get over to 5th/rev so I'm gonna get the boot back on and hope for the best..... I had delusions of coming home and taking the truck for a drive, weather is getting nicer, hitting high 50s low 60s yesterday and today. ... then I remembered I pissed all the fluid out of the slave cylinder and I'm still up on jack stands.... Dang it..... Oh well at least the rest of the parts showed up for the exhaust... No excuses now, gotta get that done and get back to driving.....

    speedometer

If its increasing with speed its probably the speedo gear.... And yes the odometer is tracking whatever mileage the speedometer is receiving.... Do the 10 mile check ... If the 10 mile check is wrong you need a new pinion gear..... if it's right the speedometer is out of calibration.... I would get the odometer reading properly then see how the speedometer reads..... If your lucky the new gear will fix both... I'm off a steady 5 mph at any speed but my odometer tracks correctly....
  5. Ya I know what your saying.... bang for the buck it's hard to argue the possibilities of the sniper..... If I was still setup for a downdraft carburetor I'd be all over it..... I actually love the way my engine looks with the weber dcoe on it.... How could you not.... I'd spend the extra for the heritage throttle body from jenvy purely to maintain the look..... but that might take me some time to afford all that..... I'm hoping once I'm done tuning I'll be happy for a while with my carburator.... but ill be saving my pennies for the future.... the carb wasnt cheap either so I'd like to get some use out of it first..... Ha I had to look up moratorium..... I get that.... if I spent what I wanted my wife would kill me..... when I'm not driving it I dream to much of what I could do to the truck.... And sorry I'm gonna be no help on the coilovers, but I'm look forward to when your able to move forward on the efi idea.... hell make extra adaptors and sell them.... if you can get a good design I bet you could sell plenty.....
  6. Way to get after it...... Bearing actually looks good, but new ones wont hurt...... Watch where those holes go it does matter......
  7. You should probably remove the bearings first, and make sure the crank was never ground..... Maybe just checking the rod bearings will be enough to tell you.... There should even be size markings on them.. And if it was me I would probably change the rings.... your in this deep now, I dont think rings are too expensive... And same thing with those you need to double check the motor hasn't been bored oversize..... Also replacement may not be necessary.... the bearing should be obvious if bad and if in good shape then they can just be used.... But buy the sounds of it the head is hopefully the issue.... the rest would just be added insurance and piece of mind...
  8. I think that sniper efi is definitely the way to go..... nice complete setup, just add fuel and make an adapter plate.... I wish I was closer I would be all over helping to make that and getting it working... And ya the fuel diagrams were just something I found looking up stuff..... Of course now you have me emailing Jenvey..... I was curious If i could use just a single efi side draft.... and they confirmed I could...... You can get a throttle body for cheap but the one that looks like the weber is like 3 times as much.... and they need an engine management system.... $$$$$$....
  9. I also found this about the efi fuel system setup.... not sure how far out the efi idea is but if you wanted you could upgrade to a low pressure pump and regulator to stabilize your current fuel pressure , then use it without the regulator to feed a collector pot for the efi.....

    Motor swap

"I would build the truck up first so it is worthy of an SR swap. It'll go a long way to keeping you and the truck alive" datzenmike..... If you read nothing else of what Mike said I hope you atleast read what I quoted him on..... Good luck on your 520.....
  11. Probably from trying to remove the drums.... looks like they tried prying them off....
  12. Not a bad video..... I have questions about his advance curves though, but I dont know what hes using for a vacuum signal, so he might be ok... Again some of that is confusing to me, there has been talk on other posts about timing, the vacuum, and about part throttle that should there be more added and so on... I'm hoping when I finally make it to a dyno the tuner will have a better understanding and maybe be able to give my some insight... and yes the dizzy was out 180 in the video like mine..... I moved my oil pump drive shaft 180 but either way would work.... all that matters is starting at cylinder 1 and following the firing order.... As far as the ez efi that was a retro fit kit specific for the z.... it's an upgrade to the stock fuel injection system..... The full systems are a 4 barrel down draft which are probably too much for a 2.0. 4 cylinder.....
  13. He doesnt have a regulator.... he is running the mechanical pump.... I have the Holley regulator and have zero issues with it....
  14. I have often wondered this too...
  15. Im not either.... Mike explained it pretty good.... As far as the recurving and all that I'm really not sure, it's just what I read.... Something to do with the plates and springs inside...
  16. I wonder if the surge is just the way the pump is.... I converted to a low psi Carter electric pump with a Holley regulator... works real well... but if going efi you'll need high pressure so ....
  17. Mostly people eliminate the advance and recurve the distributor....
  18. Well that's very good news about the efi.... now your really making me wanna look at those efi side draft dcoe look alikes from jenvey..... Next hurdle will be the adapter to mount it... but this all looks very promising.... So when the psi fluctuates is that from idle to a little throtttle or just at idle?
  19. It would be nice if the smoke is just that shit burning off..... Isnt there a water trick or solution that could clean that some, without removing the head.... I've heard of using a spray bottle and misting water into the intake or something along those line..... Please don't just do it because I said it... look up if it's TRUE or not or maybe someone else can say for sure....
  20. This shine guy showed up today..... still waiting on the exhaust pipes and bends... Looks like it will fit where I want it and not hang lower than the frame..... Still messing with the reverse/5th.... I tried to get some penetrating oil up in the side but access is pretty tight.... I have the spring back in and I can still get it to move to the reverse/5th for now.... but it doesn't kick me back center, even from 1st/2nd.. Maybe I just need to run it....
  21. If you can find one that deals with webers it will be cheaper they will have a variety of jets to try, and you would only buy a set that you needed.... Around me it all holley.... so I just installed a wide band o2 and air fuel gauge.... used that to give me a baseline , and compared to how the plugs look..... then started buying a few jets.... I also bought some on the small side and a drill bit set to make my own... And on the vacuum you could probably drill and tap for the power brakes, but I dont think it would be proper for the vacuum advance..... Usually with the dcoe you would make it mechanical only... no vacuum advance...
  22. Make sure the dyno place knows webers..... If they dont they may not have jets on hand.....
  23. Looks to me like you do.... maybe you could just unbolt the pitman arm from the frame and it would hang enough to get the oil pan out.....
  24. Mike's suggestion is about your best bet... unless you can find some with some old stock.... The part number is discontinued....
  25. I keep forgetting this is a 720 because of the L18, keeps messing with my thoughts.... If it's a removable crossmember like the 521/620 they are under some tension.... If you can get all the bolts out just use a pry bar to free it.... Probably will need some persuasion to get things back in also... I believe that's normal, and also why its there....
