datzenmike
I take it back there was one year the side mount block vent was used. The '74 610 which was the first use of an L20B using the L16 exhaust header and probably has an A87 head on it. That's pretty unique. 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Pretty sure that is what this engine came out of but has a u60 head on it. 1 Quote Link to comment
banzai510(hainz)
if that the tube that was with the block your fine. I just never seen a L20 with a sideout tube before 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Well finding all types of surprises with all the shit I bought but no mind as I am not anywhere closer to putting this engine in. At least it looks good. what color valve cover? I like red but with a blue truck going to look like Superman. 2 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Damn that looks good. Are you keeping the mechanical fuel pump? The inlets on the carbs look like they'll need to be reversed, unless you run the fuel tubing up from the rear. Valve cover would look good as-is, or maybe powdercoat wrinkle black. Or maybe a goldish color that matches all of the yellow zinc fasteners. I've been going nuts, buying everything up from Riley at Lynchburg Nissan. I need to find someone who does soda blasting to have my front cover refinished. Which intake manifold is that? Edited November 25, 2020 by mainer311 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
That was my plan but the bolt kit I bought only came with fuel pump block off plate bolts. I could go electric as that is what it is before but was trying to keep it simple. I know those fuel inlets are facing the wrong direction. PO must have ran the fuel line behind the head and I have to buy a 90 facing the other direction if I want to run the line in the front. I thought it was supposed to be in the front anyway? Especially if I run a mechanical pump? I have a black powder donated cover on my l16 I can use and the one that came with the engine is black but tore up. I spent some $$$ with Riley as well but I think more with Taka/Kyusha House than anywhere else. It’s a mikuni intake. 2 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Jeez, solexes. I thought they were DCOE’s at first. Here’s what the tube on my L20 block looks like: Edited November 25, 2020 by mainer311 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Not even sure that is right? The one on eBay goes completely around the block. Either way I guess it doesn’t really matter. Yeah dual Mikuni 40mms. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
If it goes behind the head that's for a Z series engine as the intake is on the passenger side. 1 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
This is the 76 L20B crank case vent pipe that is in my 66 520. The PCV valve threads into the back sid of the manifold. 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
You powder coat your exhaust manifold Charlie?? Looks dope. 2 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Nice I got some of that bbq high heat black paint. Did you media blast it first? 2 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Anyone know a trick to get the front cover off a trans to replace the gasket and seal? I soaked the shit out of it with PB blaster over night but it does not want to give up the ghost. Tried whacking it through the clutch fork opening with a screwdriver and piece of wood to no avail either. 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Use a socket extension and a heavy hammer and hit the clutch arm pivot ball.. 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Thanks Mike that worked like a charm. Once I got the surfaces all cleaned I noticed there is only one spacer/shim is that expected? 2 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Yes. It's select fit so don't loose it or switch with a different one. The gasket is NLA so just a smear of RTV. What squished out on the outside also squishes inside. You don't want that shit in the bearings. 1 Quote Link to comment
Crashtd420
Maybe a gasket from nissan is NLA but you can still get a gasket.... 2 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Trans front cover gasket is NLA? Cause I got one with the front and rear seals. Got it all done and buttoned back up. Now onto the exhaust manifold and painting or coating it. Anyone got any recommendations? 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Also anyone have brakekleen spray just stop working? I swear they only some of it out of The can. Make you buy more. every single one of these mfers has fluid in it but won’t spray. 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Not break clean specifically but I found that happen with PB blaster. I assume once you let the fluid pass the seal it degrades the seal and makes it leak propellant...? 1 Quote Link to comment
d.p
Yeah I don’t know what it is. 2 of those bottles are band new and yet only let me use half of the bottle before they gave it up. I had a single bottle of PB blaster for years but it seems like all the recent stuff is garbage and make it nearly impossible to get your money’s worth. 1 Quote Link to comment
john510
Is it cold where you live ? Soak the can in hot water for a few minutes.WD-40 seems to have this problem also but i have to use the California safe stuff.Maybe it's the safer propellants they use now. 1 Quote Link to comment
