It is a stock Mazda grill with the inseret of the excort Gt grill. My firend grafted it into the stock grill,,,escort headlights. Mark they arent Fiero, mirrors but they are Pontiac, if I remember right I want to say Sunbird...But they are probly the same as the Fiero....

Mark I really admire your enthusiasm that you have. You put aot of work and time in on your truck....I hate working on my trucks, love driving them, hate working. But I am trying to get them all up and going by the summer....Look forward to seeing more of your ride.....

Het where is you Hardbody havent seen that around for awhile....Tha is the machine I wish I had, Love the Dancing beds.....

Decided to tackle the carrier bearing today...removed & seperated the shafts & then noticed that the JY front shaft i bought is longer than mine. Meaning it came out of a 620 w/ a short tail tranny..oh boy  The plan is to cut & shorten it then reassemble. Was gonna have the old 1 pressed off & the new [used] one pressed on but $$ is tight so ill cut & weld ;) Heres the damage..think this'll keep it all alligned?

Why did you go with a JY one....only reason I ask is i assume that once I get totally finished mine will need to be replaced as well. Do they not make them for our trucks anymore?!? Also, I need a notch and don't want to spend the 125 for the damn suicidedoors notch. I know it was most likely just thrown together (not that you "threw it together" I just know how well you can make scrap look GREAT!) so what would you charge for a set of notches "close to like yours" shipped out here to Texas? I would prefer already assembled and ready to slip over the frame so we can put them on and I can get to grinding the frame and getting it all painted?

Dwn- i went with a JY one cause i got 2 good replacement parts for $30 [bolted 2 front shafts together] NEW ones are $75 ish if you can find them in stores. As for the notches id go ahead & buy the SD ones..would cost you the same after you paid shipping. On top of that in swamped right now w/ projects. Ok onto today's fun....

current & new [used] shafts..

Mark, is this a temp fix? I only ask because butt welding a driveshaft is a bad idear.

The ends are press fit into the tubes and then welded.

The way to do this at home is to grind out the weld holding the end fitting on, remove it from the tube and then press it back into the shortened tube. Then weld the lapped joint. Much stronger than a butt weld.

Hope you rethink this if that's the case. Wouldn't want that shaft coming apart on the freeway :)

Ill get it balanced soon enough. & no not really a temp. fix either. I wasnt able to get the new carrier bearing off the old shaft so thats why i went with shortening the front shaft. I did the same driveshaft mod on my 521 w/ no issues ever & i would drive 75-80 every day.

Cool project pacman!! I wish I lived where the weather permitted me to have a convertible :( Even in the summer when I had a datto roadster once the sun went down it was cold on the freeway...

Dude I've done it that way a few times redeye, It's always wobled a little bit though. I took one of them to my driveline guy to get balanced and he had to redo my cut and weld, he said without putting the DL on a lathe it's really tough to get it perfect, I thought it pressed on perfect but I guess not.

You didn't hear it from me but the wagon DL fits the long tail tranny sort bed trucks. That way there isn't that stupid carrier bearing... I can't believe how thick the truck DL is!! WOW.

The bag will go between the chain & the upright bars & there will be a pivot bar too. Basically a cantilever setup...
