Mexico tortures migrants – and citizens – in effort to slow Central American surge

Activists say that Mexico’s National Immigration Institute is increasingly operating like an unchecked police force – and say that that like the country’s security forces, it appears to be systematically using torture against detainees.

“The order appears to be to detain Central Americans at any cost, even if that means violating the constitution, picking up people based on racist criteria and detaining and deporting Mexican indigenous youth along the way,” said Gretchen Kuhener, director of the Institute for Women in Migration (IMUMI), which launched legal action to secure the siblings’ release. The Mexican constitution states that citizens can move freely within the country, and do not need to carry ID.

Kuhener added: “This case demonstrates the power and impunity of the National Migration Institute. They can get away with it because it impacts highly vulnerable populations who may not speak Spanish, don’t know their rights, and are unlikely to complain.”

It's hard to argue that the porous nature of the Mexico/USA border is totally in the USA's interests.

Sure there's the cheap workers that a lot of people want to employ for sweet fuck all wages (and at same time break the law in doing so),but overall it's not good for the actual US citizen in the larger picture as I see it.

well he is....

There really isnt anything in common with the two.

Really? They are both German decent. Condone violence at their meetings. Discriminate against minorities. Employ them as scapegoats.

There's that word again: Ignorant

While it's true, Trump supporters tend to be slightly older, less educated, and earn a little less than average, there is one single statistically significant variable that predicts whether a voter supports Trump; It’s authoritarianism.

http://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/01/donald-trump-2016-authoritarian-213533#ixzz456IDr6T7

"Authoritarianism is not a new, untested concept in the American electorate. Since the rise of Nazi Germany, it has been one of the most widely studied ideas in social science. While its causes are still debated, the political behavior of authoritarians is not. Authoritarians obey. They rally to and follow strong leaders. And they respond aggressively to outsiders, especially when they feel threatened. From pledging to “make America great again” by building a wall on the border to promising to close mosques and ban Muslims from visiting the United States, Trump is playing directly to authoritarian inclinations."

I have never seen him as a 'leader' definitely not a 'strong leader' but any real power he might have was over employees, by definition, under him and more of a perception than actual. I think, he thinks, he's doing a reality show. An actor has a better chance of being a president than this 'captain of industry'. How anyone can believe that a guy who has jumped from one bankruptcy to another should run things, is beyond me. Yelling at employees does not qualify you as a  strong leader, or an orator. In fact he is PISS POOR at it. Politicians are excellent at talking but telling you nothing, trump isn't even good at that.

So if authoritarians are flocking to trump then their definition needs to be expanded to include gullible.
