against all odds : BRE datsun 510 racing team documentary on youtube

Recommended Posts

Hey all, I found this - I actually didn't realise they made a doco on these cars! The colours are a little washed out as it was an 80's home vcr taped recording by the looks, but it's worth a watch. Enjoy!

Congratulations, you are in the long line of others that have posted this video without searching Ratsun first.... myself included, lol. Believe me, if you find something on the interwebs datsun related...chances are, it's already on here.

Still a great video though!!

Did you guys see that the Alfa is for sale. Opening day and already a $201K bid.

Begs the question, if the 46 car went up for auction, what would that fetch?

Cool stuff here! I think they should've left the Alfa with the

damaged front end, from when he hit #46 at Laguna Seca.

Quite a few years ago I went to the local library,& found

the book "The Stainless Steel Carrot" - it was about Morton's

early racing career with BRE.

If you find a copy at a reasonable price - buy it!.

Don't say that too loudly, Nissan in TN might hear you and consider it.

It has been reprinted, but I'm not sure if still readily available.  I have an original found many years back and I believe I had it signed by Morton and others (I'll have to double check it).

Substitute Datsun for '70 hemi Challenger convertible or Jackson Pollock painting. It's a commodity and an investment. It's not good for anything, can't be driven really because of the risk and not feasible anyway. It's an acquisition to be put safely away as it appreciates by someone with the resources but doesn't know a Datsun from their elbow. Or care. At least Leno drives some of them around.

Vintage race cars have been having their day on the block. My friend sold his MGB racer last week for $75k - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1964-mg-mgb-44/

A historic RX3 just sold for $90k to Japan - https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1976-mazda-rx-3/

A complete pile of shit Porsche 356 racer sold for $82 last week too -  https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1960-porsche-356b-roadster-20/

Values seem to be rising on vintage racers. But I feel they should be driven, not immortalized in a museum. I remember reading an article about Carrol Shelby's personal Cobra being inducted into the Smithsonian where is will enjoy a life of rest and never have to be driven again. I thought - what a shame. They just don't get it.
