In Italy, fascist Mussolini adopted this probably from an old Roman salute and Germany's Hitler, an admirer of Mussolini, adopted it from him. In the States the first picture was the proper pledge of allegiance to the flag salute from the 1880s till '42 when the hand on heart was adopted. Quote Link to comment

paradime
Cuz history echos. What's the point of digging up this bit of ironic trivia that nazi's adopting a Roman salute 45 years after the US used it? In all reality, the Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by a very patriotic Bostonian Socialist named Francis Bellamy to commemorate Columbus's voyage to the new world. Another bit of historic irony, back then liberals were Republican and they identified as "nationalist" before the term was adopted by nazi's aka National Socialist German Workers' Party or Na-Si, nazi in English. Echos... 2 Quote Link to comment

The US had to distance them selves from both Italy and Germany during the war and this now obvious fascist salute ..... and, there's no going back now. *Strange how there are not many references or pictures of it today. It's like all mention has been erased by Big Brother. 1 Quote Link to comment

I don't know if it's some omnipotent Big Brother chief editor or just history's self conscious self promoting zeitgeist that distorts the telling of the story. Lots of prominent American bankers like Prescott Bush made their fortunes from Hitler's rampaige, and were literally the financial architects of Nazism. You don't see that in history books eather. Those F'n culture pirate nazi's adopted the mystical symbol of the Swastika and turned it's 12,000-year-old history into an indelible image representing the horror of human brutality. Catholic church did the same with pagan rites and observances. Nothing promotes something, like outlawing it. Embrace it as your own idea. 2 Quote Link to comment

Or is it I just can't see it cuz I'm doing the hand held thing this morning ?? Who are you looking for? If you go in the top right hand corner there is a magnifying glass, like a search icon. Then where it says content search click on the upside down triangle and it will give you the option to do a member search. Then near the bottom of that you can do the search by location or cars they have or whatever. That’s as good as I can get for you. Quote Link to comment

bottomwatcher
Tragically as an ex merchant mariner this story sucks. You are offshore where you are the police, fire and ems. The rest of the world has 911 or some other means of summoning some kind of help. Those "unresponsive" were dead or nearly dead unable to grab the rescue devices thrown to them. This is a link that brings all the goods of the world to your doorstep. Unfortunately a large portion of these crews come from countries where this is the only means to support their families and are paid poorly with long times at sea. Sorry to be a buzzkill on the "Fire Sale" but fellow sailors deaths from accidents at sea always upsets me. 1 Quote Link to comment
