d.p
Got a lot done today. Trans mounted new slave, adjusted and bled the clutch. Got shifter installed but one of the brass seats was warped so have to order a new one. Clutch seems to work ok, trans shifts but without it running or an drive shaft no real idea on how to test it all. It’s been so long since I adjusted the clutch and I think the push rod was always way too long. I cut it and now the clutch goes almost to the floor which it never did before. Is there a sweet spot for the push rod and the clutch? 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Which wires are reverse and how to make them reach? Do I need to splice wire in or can get some slack from somewhere? 1 Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Reverse is the switch with the black wires just forward of the fill bung. Polarity is of no matter. The harness wires to them should be Black/Red stripe. 2 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Congrats on getting your diff out. I know I have run a cross several in wrecking yards that were hard to get out, took some major hammering to break loose. Merry Christmas all. 1 Quote Link to comment

d.p
Can someone tell me how to measure how much I need to shorten my driveshaft? Like from where to where do I measure? Quote Link to comment
d.p
Also should the trans be this close to the tunnel? I don’t remember how close the 4 speed was. Quote Link to comment
DanielC
I measured centerline of u joints, slip yoke pushed in, then pulled out, but still engaged, then go to about middle of the two positions, but slightly forward of middle. If you still have the driveshaft center bearing, the front driveshaft length does not change a lot, most slip is on the rear half of the driveshaft. Quote Link to comment
d.p
So does roughly 20” front slip yoke to rear half of the drive shaft? Front shaft is 25” and I think I read it needs to be shortened by 5 to 5 1/2” somewhere on here. So that would be close. Quote Link to comment
d.p
Can someone tell how the rear section of the drive shaft comes out? I removed the 4 bolts but it doesn’t want to give it up. That is assuming it slides out? Quote Link to comment

KELMO
Just spit balling here cuz I mostly work on 1200's..... The drive shaft should slide a bit into the transmission and give you room to remove. Maybe need a little PB blaster to soak in. This is based on what I have done on 1200's. Really don't see anything else holding that in. Have a catch bucket/ tray under the trans to catch fluid...don't ask me how I know this. Quote Link to comment
d.p
Thanks man. I got it with a punch and dead blow hammer. And this was the rear so no fluid out of there. Quote Link to comment
KELMO
I got that but was thinking you were taking the drive shaft out of the trans also. If that hasn't been separated from the diff in a couple decades, it can be a real bitch kitty Quote Link to comment
d.p
Yeah the front came out super easy. The rear at the diff was a bitch. anyone got a picture of steering column end without the wheel? I took mine apart and don’t remember how it goes back together. Specially the two piece spacer and rubber bumper/spacer. Quote Link to comment
d.p
My steering column fill plug has seen better days. I doubt they are still available so has anyone replaced it with something else? Edited December 27, 2020 by d.p Quote Link to comment
DanielC
My guess is the steering box fill plug is probably a standard imperial pipe plug. Second guess, British pipe. Quote Link to comment
