I make more money, so I'm not about to give it up, but I'd be lying if I said I didn't miss it. I fucken loved going home at night not worrying about fucking cover sheets on TPS reports. Making sure all the boys have work lined up. Making sure clients are taken care of... My head hurts from the stress. Family suffers cause I work most nights when I get home. Life was honestly better in most ways when I was sweating uniforms. But kids are spensive. So I persist. That said, I'm the only manager who gets respect. Ahhh, one other kind of. But most are true tools who kinda fell into it by default or favor. The main bullshit happens when managers get management jobs who have not done the work for years earning it. As smoke said, management classes are for people who should never be a manager. Never. All you need is knowledge of the work, respect for your crew, and respect for the company. You have that, you can manage. And remember, a manager who loses crew, loses his job. My boss tells me, everyone is replaceable. Well, I tell my guys no one is replaceable. When a car don't got all cylinders firing, it shouldn't even bother driving. 2 Link to comment

I have heard the worst stories from mechanics about treatment from management. Then throw in the politics from a dealership standpoint. FML. I am waiting for the day a Columbine incident happens in an auto shop. I know it's coming. My current boss is actually a pretty cool guy. I work at a huge dealership. We are very busy. Sales and service. I will say he has a problem with "his way." He is very set in his conclusion to a problem being the way it is. Period. When a problem arises-his mind is made up about who, what, when, where, and why. He will never get the full story. Never even looks for it. When he has enough information to formulate a scenario-he's done. At that time he will go to the root of the problem and chastise. Wait-you're missing critical information. Nope. Plot has been set. Time for the show. I have been in that scenario with him a couple of times. Not pretty. Extremely frustrating. I have learned that if I have a problem that may create a shitstorm I run to the boss as fast as I possibly can to just report that I fucked up and will do my best to remedy what had caused the dilemma at hand. Sucks because it may not always be the full story behind the situation-but it's so much easier to eat raw egg than to make an omelette out of shit. This is a problem I have seen before too. It comes down to a manager trusting those under him to simply do their jobs. Most (or many, either are, or become) a micro-manager and want to oversee every fucking phase of the work done by those under them. That's not being what their job is... to manage. It's invasive and does not inspire confidence in your workers. Basically if he's going to complain or have you do it another way anyway why give a shit? More time is spent arguing and being pissed off that you don't really learn anything. The best bosses I've had asked what the problem is and say ok fix it. The production "maanaager" as he underlined it in the air when he said this, was/is an ass hat, they both go laid off in the recent slow down. Link to comment

The wipers,,and all but one of all the tail lights on the 55 Ford i was taking,,, corroded enough to not work till everyone of the screws,tags connectors ,, were cleaned....... Oh and the blinker switch boinked just to throw off the trouble shooting just that tiny bit ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, more. But at least it's ready to go now,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that the show is about an hour from ending. :sneaky: I guess we shoot for Hot rod Eruption up at Riverdale raceway in a couple months.. that's a nice day of loud cars.
