Yeup, pretty simple. The dude who sells them uses some pretty nice shit though, its definitely not out of my laziness and time crunch to spend a hundo on all of that goodness. Sourcing all of those parts, some of which appear to be machined... not at the moment.

So the Volvo end links showed up. When I looked at them online I wasn't sure wtf these were for, but they are mis-alignment bushings. I honestly didn't even know the kit came with them, but holy shit am I glad it did.

 

 

I scrapped the original idea to put the hime joint into the control arm. It was just a tad large, And i would have had to completely disassemble the front end to cut some shit off of my already powdercoated lower arms.

 

Ended up putting the bushings facing down, with the joint at the top.

 

 

At ride height, the alignment was pretty goddamn good.

 

 

Ended up zipping about an inch off the end of the sway bar. This photo shows the mis-alignment when the vehicle is slammed.

 

 

Had these 1/8 inch tabs floating around from some other project. Drilled the holes out to fit the joint perfectly, and bought some fancy stainless hardware.

 

 

It was a blessing in disguise that the bushings were different sizes as well. I took the thick ones and turned them down until I got the thickness of both tabs, and the joint to roughly the same width as the sway bar (like an inch).

 

 

The tires still bottom out on the frame rail...

 

 

And the sway bar clears the rod, no rubbing anywhere and the alignment on the end link looks manageable. Also, I will never drive it at this height since the goddamn tires hit the frame, so it's not like I'm going to be taking turns or bumps like this. The tabs are just tack welded in this photo to make sure this shit was even going to work.

 

 

Another shot of the clearance. I'm sure when the weight of the car is on everything the tire may compress a bit and they will touch... but  I honestly don't have a care, just happy that it's all fitting in there.

 

 

Decided against trying to tig weld this due to the gaps from trying to weld flat things to round things. Hit it with a quick grind to make it look slightly less redneck.

 

 

Blasted it with paint and installed it once and for all. I'm nervous to set the car on it though... I'm sure it will be fine, but I've only jacked up one wheel at a time to see if it can do it. I'm mostly worried that it wont go low for some reason, probably because that's why I took it off in the first place.

 

 

Got both of these panels in. Now all that's left is the rear panel over the fuel tank.

 

 

other side. Still gotta finish stitching everything and then clean it up. I'm hoping that the seam sealer will smooth everything out a bit. I also have 8 cans of undercoat to blast everything with, top and bottom.

 

 

Speaking of fuel tanks, here's the THIRD one this build. They get nicer and more expensive everytime... fml. It's the one though, fits better than the other two, and has a baffled sump thing and a goddamn pump in it. one hose in, one hose out. Does anybody have any experience with AN fittings? I have some questions.

 

 

Also, this. I can't believe I bought this thing for this car. It's going to be awhile before I have another project I think... At least anything like this retarded car.

Well, for starters i'm not sure what size line would suffice for this setup. I was thinking -6, but again, unsure.

 

The fittings on my tank are -8, if i want to run -6 should I just get an adapter from -8 to -6?

 

can you go from a slip fitting style into an AN fitting? My fpr i think just has a slip on style fitting, but all of the bungs on the tank are AN.

 

Just basic shit i guess... just want to clarify some stuff before I dump a couple hundo on lines and fittings.

Got some brackets made for these. Just took off the sliders and static mounted both as close to the driving position as possible. The mounts I made are preeeeeaty ghetto, but super strong and utilize some of the factory mount reinforcment in the floor, which is nice. I honestly just drilled holes in the bottom of the car to access the hardware. Once I get around to welding up all of the other holes in the floor I'll go pick up some rubber and plug them up for future use, makes taking the seat out so retarded easy.

 

 

actually really impressed with the amount of room I have behind the seats. Will be nice for stashing guns and drugs. Also that panel behind the seat isn't welded up yet. I wanted to tack it to the tunnel before welding it in on the far sides of the vehicle.

 

 

Man a part of me really doesn't want to build a dash into this car. I think if I sand on the firewall a bit and give it a nice coat of paint it wont look as bad to me. It doesn't feel like a car when you sit in it... there's so much room. A nice little one for my switches and guages might be in order. I'll have to meditate on that.

-6 is good to almost 1000 hp on an EFI system. You can buy -8 tube nuts that are made for-6 tubing so you don't have to use an adapter. 

 

I'm not sure what you mean by "slip fitting" but they make every type of adapter that you can imagine.

I think I would run a foot or so of -8 braided line from the tank to the hard line and then just use a -6 to -8 connector to get to a -6 stainless hard line.

My friend bought a total'd e30 to get the gearbox out of it and these seats were in it, they cost me 100 bucks.

 

 

Got a handful of hours in today. Took down the fuel cell and battery mounts. 

 

 

Made it so the tank could easily be dropped from beneath the vehicle. I purchased a rubber floor mat to use as the strap rubber, and built it all out of scrap at the shop.

 

 

Had to hang it about a half an inch lower than i wanted to for clearence with the rear floor supports, but it doesn't hang out the ass too badly. I think I can hide it with some form of bumper.

 

 

One more floor panel and It's almost time to paint this bitch and get serious on the dance floor!

spent probably 7 hours getting the best polish I could on the cage. I'm sure I could have gotten it much more polished, but I'm only one man, and the car is ratty. I like how it looks.

 

 

 

Went to the wood store and found this nice piece of walnut for the dash.

 

 

Good sized plank with a small bit of live edge. The live edge is a funny detail, but it was the only rough cut they had in the size I needed so I'm embracing it.

 

 

built my second roll cage.

 

 

I swiped the vents from the original dash. If anyone needs any interior pieces let me know, I have most of it intact still.

 

 

Starting to get the dashboard to fit. It's pretty basic, but it's gonna look nice all stained up. I tried to salvage the factory dash topper that I had, but when I went to notch it for the cage and then take it in and out, and in and out, trying to make it perfect, the corners basically just desintigrated. I have some thicker walnut board i'm going to make the top out of, and then the oringinal dash vent pieces fill the gap to the windshield.

 

 

Was able to just weld a couple of tabs to the dash bar and bolt it right up. This is not the hardware i'll end up using, but even with just 3 bolts on the bottom, I think it's more than enough to hold up.

 

 

made it to the fun part. I screwed up big time on one of the AC vents, which sucks. I'm hoping I can get my hands on a different router bit to fix it though.

 

 

This is the vent that I didn't mess up. The mess up isn't really that big of a deal, I just feel like a moron. What happened was... I had to notch the rear of the dash for the oe vents to fit down into the hole, because of the tabs on it, and in doing so, forgot to make the router cuts on both vent holes first. When I went to router the goddamn holes the router slipped into the notch for the tabs and fubared the outer diameter a tiny bit. Again, hopefully fixable with a more aggressive router bit.

It's actually pissed, high compression motor. My friend is just waiting on some rediculous 4500.00 dollar coil overs to show up from belgium or something crazy... I dont know.

Decided to throw a little datsun emblem in the dash. I wanted to mount it the factory way but there just wasn't a spot it looked nice, So I chiseled out a little spot for it in the center of the dash. Upside down datsun cross, because... man honestly I dont know but it was like 3 am when that happened, metal as fuck or whatever.

 

 

Wiped this thing down to prepare for clear.

 

 

And then this happened. I think i rushed it a hair because the clear chipped off in a few places, but it's much easier to mask off the panels than the bars, so I'll fix it later.

 

 

I seam sealed everything from the underside, and then por-15'd the entire bottom, it's basically the shittiest thing ever if you've never tried it. I have por 15 in my hair, and on my face, but it's almost finished. The bottom is going to get a coat of rubberized as well, and then I can throw the axle back in!

 

 

It's not perfect, but I'm happy with how it looks. As soon as the paint is finished I can start running wires and lines for the bags, and then It's off to Scotty's for intercooler piping and a fuel system!

 

Working on it everyday, almost there.

I have a clutch.

 

 

finished cleaning and spraying the cabin. I pretty much just sanded and cleaned as best I could with solvents and rags. I painted the firewall with BBQ paint flat black. I'm not a very good painter, but for what I'm going for it should be fine.

 

 

Let that Dry and then just went full force. For a home depot color match it's pretty close to the unfaded color of the interior. I really tried to be aware of the patina, so the door sills and such are still original.

 

 

threw some foam down on the floor and test fit the carpet, it's pretty weird.

 

 

I wan't sure about painting everything a crazy bright color, but it's really growing on me. I think there's a piece of masking tape on the rear bar in that photo.

 

 

Spent most of yesterday painting and re-painting the entire underside of the car with por-15 and undercoat. It was pretty dry this morning so I tossed the axle and all of the suspension back in today. Kind of aligned it with a tape measure. I torqued it in though, and it looks legit, I hope it works!

 

 

forgot to mock up the front valence for this photo. Dug out all of my interior tin and trim. Put in a good effort on the dash topper, but I ruined it... trying to cut notches for the cage with the tubing notcher. My friend Hugo is talking about engraving my air tank for me, but we'll see if that happens. We talked about it at the bar so maybe he was just buzzed up, I definitely can't pay for that right now.

 

Hopefully update soon with an air system...
