Lockleaf
I had been wondering what ever happened to this wagon. Welcome back. Your wagon is one of the first that helped me decide I wanted a wagon. Picked up my 71 510 wagon just a few months ago. So thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Really clean work! Quote Link to comment
Filthy_
!!! My really smart friend Erik had the Idea to mount the Griggs upside down. Fits way better with the fitment of the vehicle. This is his car. He's been sitting on these wheels for 2 and a half years. Finally ordered some tires. Side shot with the links in. More of the same. Awww yeah. 3 Quote Link to comment

Filthy_
Sacked up, and modfied my modifications. Still need to get a grinder on it and make it right. I fucked up the measurements with the marker marks so i basically just eyeballed it. It's straight side to side which is nice... so ignore the lines. :poop: Decided that I'm going to airbag the front... My buddy showed up to help me with the rear end and basically jacked up the front of my car and started taking my suspension apart. I was peer pressured into bagging the front of the car, and I couldn't be happier about it. If anybody is interested in these coil-overs that I made I'll be posting them on the classifieds probably tonight. They are 280zx tubes with adjustable KYB inserts, tig welded perches and powder coated. They will include the T3 Top hats, and obviously the springs and all that shit. If you want detailed measurements on the specs I can rip one off and spec it up for you. I can tell you that if you're trying to go low that they will bolt right in, and brakes are easy to get ahold of, the tubes are stock length, but the inserts are for a first gen mr2. You can hammer them down pretty low. I'm keeping the brakes, bearings, and bump steer spacers. If anybody has a set of 280zx tubes for sale let me know ASAP, because I need to build another set. This was starting to scrub the front trying to get the frame on the ground. At a hard hard park height in the front as of now the frame rails are less than a half inch from the floor. I found some smaller toyo tires that I may try to run front and rear depending on what kind of sizing I can find for the back. It's so close to laying frame  . Here's a view of the back, I cut out all of this shit a couple of years ago. It feels really nice to see those tires sitting against the tubs with the links in. lol pretty pumped on this shit. The doors don't close anymore which makes me smile. Another shot of the notch with the axle in. Again, still need to clean it up and weld in some tube, but she's sitting right. 3 Quote Link to comment

Filthy_
Wiring specialties engine harness. box of wires. This is the builder kit i'm going to use. Air ride part# 75563. Still looking for another set of 280zx strut tubes. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Have you considered expanding your search to include s12 or m30 struts? They also work pretty well for 510s. Quote Link to comment
Filthy_
I haven't. Do you know if they use the same brakes and bearings as a 280zx off hand? I've already spent the money on all new shit for the 280 tubes. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
Brakes, not at all. The m30 and v6 s12 at least. Those two are interchangeable with the later brake kits like s13, z32, q45 etc, but not the earlier stuff. I read some stuff about 4 cylinder s12 being able to use 280zx hubs, but I'm not sure about the 4 cyl brake interchange. But when I made the suggestion I didn't realize you had already invested money into 280zx parts. Might be worth the research effort, but then again, might be more with the effort to just put up a want ad for 280zx struts. Quote Link to comment
Laecaon
Only 280zx have the narrower track width, so if that is something you need... Quote Link to comment
Filthy_
Only 280zx have the narrower track width, so if that is something you need... I definitely need the narrowest track possible. I'm having a tough time cramming these wheels under the car at this height as it is. Having no luck on my tube search however. Quote Link to comment

I'm sure they'll be easier to hunt down, and I think I found a buyer for the coilovers which is a good start to getting this bag crap ordered. Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
There is a rolling race chassis 280zx on craigslist in Gillette Wyoming right now. $400 with wheels, $250 if you bring your own. My phone is acting up or I would post the link, but I just saw it. Not sure if that's too far from you. Quote Link to comment

Filthy_
I found another set of 280 struts locally but he wants 160 per side :geek:. If I had the cash I'd probably go get them. Hopefully my stupid motorcycle sells soon so I can make haste on this thing. Nearly sawed off my fucking thumb making these. Got excited to get to work and maimed myself like a fucking rookie. :crying: Trying to get the fitment right. Had my first go at some overhead tig welding. Fixing to go pick up some more stainless rod because I just ran out, and then finish installing the forward 4-link brackets. Still on the market for 280 struts :w00t: . 1 Quote Link to comment
Filthy_
Threw the front brackets for the 4-link tonight. Right handed homie picking up the slack for me. Manifesting a cage and that watts link... 1 Quote Link to comment
Filthy_
Drove an hour and payed too much to remove these myself in a snow storm. These are the tie rods I have. Pretty serious units from Troy Ermish. \\ Completely tore down the front end again to try and fathom this airbag setup. Pretty much wingin' it on hopes and dreams... I found a guy who pulled it off on Instagram. His handle is just_joel510. I'm 99% sure that the kit I found uses the same bags that he stuffed in there, which are for an e30 BMW. I'll be sure to document everything incase someone else wants to give it a go. My main concern is that my wheels are substantially more agressive than his. So between stuffing a bag up in the tiny strut mount holes in the 510 (which are like 7" at best), and making it fit around my ridiculous wheel sizing... It's going to be... interesting. stripped down the new tubes and cleaned all the grease away. Going to leave them in my neighbors parts washer all day come Monday. Here's the kit from bag riders. Yes I took a photo of my monitor. Found a buyer for these (If I can make the bags work) The guy I bought the struts from had this thing rotting away behind his barn with several other cars. Inside he had a super clean 240z shell with metal flares, all brazed in. It was actually in perfect shape, forgot to get a photo. He also had this thing, completely rebuilt just sitting on the floor for god knows how long. I like old Datsun guys... but it's kind of really annoying to see people with mountains of shit just rotting away. 2 Quote Link to comment

Filthy_
Picked up as much dom as I could afford. Went with inch and 5/8ths, because that was the best sized die that we had for the bender. Mocked up the dash and pedals to try and get a somewhat clear idea of driving position to place the main hoop. I was hoping there would possibly be a way to hide it behind the pillar so that it wasn't so visible... but I'm afraid that's out of the question. Decided to go straight off the top of the crossmember. getting ready to mount this into the ground right now. General sketch of roughly where it's going to be, might toss half of a door bar in there or something. Laying out the main hoop. Bags for the front end shipped today, hopefully have them before the end of the week, but then I'm leaving town for the holidays. Merry Christmas. 4 Quote Link to comment
