Hello, I started a build thread for this a long time ago but have since forgotten my log in information, and have been continuing to document my process on a local drifting forum, so this is the transplanted version. Last summer I picked up a '71 goon. My original idea was to just rat around in it as a daily driver, which I did... but as we all know, that can only last so long.

I've been into cars for a long time, but this is the first one I'm attempting to do completely myself (with a little help here and there obviously) I really love this car and can envision what it's going to be one day. I figured that a Ratsun build thread would be necessary, I know how many talented people there are on this forum, and I hope that people wont hesitate to speak up, because I'm way in over my head on this thing.

Also, I don't claim to be a wiz fabricator or mechanic, but this is something that I've always needed to do, so here it goes.

1b71a72ca.jpgHere she is not long after purchase, cut coils and blocks, sittin' ok. Burning tons of oil and running horribly.

Here's the folly that started it all, a little back story: My buddy Tommy had his 240sx towed from his house, it wouldn't run and had been broken into and parts had been stolen off of the engine (IC piping and what have you). The tow yard was going to claim the vehicle, so I swooped in like a hawk and payed the tow fee. I picked up the car from the lot, and after spending just over $600.00 (including tow) I had a beat ass 240 hatch with a blacktop sr swap sitting in my driveway.

So, not really knowing wtf I was doing i started to seal 1971 playboy magazines into the engine bay (in retrospect I wish I had waited to do this, because as we all know, plans change.

It's not a huge problem though, Everywhere that I started to seal rust free, and it's holding up remarkably well, even without a final clearcoat. I just wish I could have por15'd it all first.

So I moved, and the car sat for a few months while I dealt with other things, but I finally found a spot for her to call home for the winter, and it's only 2 blocks from my house.

Planned for the future and bought a bunch more smut.

Powdercoated some stuff.

Finally got around to removing the bumpers, fenders, and valence. I was saddened to find this...

But, I just figured it would be another learning experience, because I doubt this will be the last car I build in this shop.

bought some supplies.

Attacked full force with a wire wheel

Picked up some T3 rods, and sort of mocked it up.

Ripped the SR.
21ce2b358e.jpg
stripped it down and cleaned as much of it as I could.

Puchased almost everything for the springy bits in the front.

Scored an intercooler from my buddy Tommy (different Tommy) that i think may work out.

Got back on a tig torch, they welds didn't look too horrible for my first go in 5 years. I need to get some smaller fill rods, and a lot of practice.

Also ordered a full sr20 gasket/seal kit, and Mckinney Poly motor mounts, woop woop.

So over this shit.

Slowly coming back together. I couldn't put the exhaust side back on because one of the fucking studs is broken off in the block. Started soaking it with liquid wrench tonight... don't really know wtf I'm going to do but hopefully it will come out easily.

sweeeeet.

Also picked up the 31 spline 8.8, and found someone to shorten it. Hopefully I can find a way to drop it off this week after I figure out a proper narrowing measurement, and hopefully tear up the floor in the back soon for some back half action.

Motor mounts showed up this morning, heading to the oven tomorrow to bake my strut tubes and the little steering linkage chongers. Update tomorrow.

this powder fucking sparkles! I was planning on doing bronze on the tubes, but I think I might re-do them in wrinkle black... what do you guys think about the silver on the tubes? I like it but my gf thinks wrinkle black would be way more tits.

Also, I've completely finished the rust repair on the front end and am prepping for por15. I had a bottle of argon smash my fucking toe last night so I had to call it early, and crush a few drinks. It's broken for sure.

so stupid.

Thanks, I love the shitty rattle can bre paint job. I'm not changing anything about the exterior. Also... I'm planning on 4 linking the rear, and bagging it. My goal is to lay frame.

Sounds like a good plan. Im debating whether or not 4 link is in the future for my wagon.

I had actually done a photoshop of my car that looks fairly similar to your's.

Here's a picture of my other car. I wish I could say that I did this all myself, but I basically just ordered the parts and did the powdercoating. This one is almost finished, but on the back burner until drift season comes around. Made 430 to the ground on 10 psi.

I plan on the 510's engine bay to be as clean if not more clean than this.

Actually one of the guys who built this car for me is on this forum. Chambo, at MAC autosport in Denver.

I really want to 4-link the rear in mine and bag it too! Keep me posted on how it goes cuz hopefully I'll be doing the same thing soon. How are you going to get that low in the front? Bags up there too?

Actually, if you look at the other picture, it was taken while we were measuring for the travel and the perch and collar aren't welded yet, it's just sitting on the knuckle, essentially being completely bottomed out.
