the510keeper
The story goes we started this goon for a friend. He purchased it as a project, (mostly a shell). Not a lot of parts bolted to the body, so putting it together would be a treasure hunt. And expensive once new parts were purchased. Once the engine bay was blasted, shaved, and painted, it was determined that this would be a huge project for the owner. With help from Atom we picked up and traded a complete running goon. No pretty engine bay but our friend could drive this goon now. Wow, Victory and I own a goon with a nice painted engine bay. We have parted out many goons mostly wrecked, so parts should not be a problem. With no time and to many projects ahead of this car, it got stored and went up for sale. Funny no buyers. Huh who would of thought. While working with a 510er from Aussie we imported a factory right hand drive kit, non SSS. So we thought RHD goon. We have some trainees at the shop and figured we would try to put together a RHD, shaved, SR20NA S14 goon, for Canby. 5 months no problem. Here are some pics Small amount of rust in the drain area, patch panels from other rip 510s Dp90LF black epoxy primer sealer These pic are all from last year, before this project was stored. Now on with the to date pics 1 Quote Link to comment

victory
I think that the reason we get soo much done is that we have no tv and limited internet access, we live in the country, and we have Atom and Phil now helping sometimes too. Quote Link to comment

I too am amazed that your wife is a huge help. It's all my wife can do to "tolerate" what I do with cars. You said-"She kept the drinks flowing" (well-known as the painter's best fuel!) AND THEN "she stripped'!!!?? - and then "she sanded? ' Wait, this isn't REALLY your life, is it? This has GOT to be some kind of Fantasy! -Sweet goon. Sanding DP90 sucks, though, doesn't it! Do you adhere to the "paint within 24 hrs" rule with DP? (pssst! I have a wagon shell, don't tell anyone!) I've got a little "project overload" situation here, it's crazy, but MAN, I'm lovin' it! speeder
Unbelievable. A true resurrection. Amazing work. No TV + 510 passion = free thinking mind= imagination and productivity= really cool 510's. Awesomeness in an era of watered down "reality" BS. Keepin' it so real, Ratsun style. Keep up the righteousness. 1 Quote Link to comment

Usually when i sandblast an engine bay and take care of the mud work, i use the dp90 as my filler primer. Blast 2 heavy coats let dry 12 - 24 hours and light sanding with 600 wet, blast a sealer coat of dp90 thinned, then spray my base or single stage at the time. Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
On with it. All the pic posted so far are from a year ago or longer. Here are new pic to date. Uncle Ed sand blasting He owed me for painting some parts for his trail 70 You go Uncle Phil buttoned her up Victory chemically stripped the roof and quarters before blasting and after blasting DA the complete areas Back to melting out the lead, a little heat and a wire brush While we have the torch out I decided to burn off some bondo, under the taillight. This goon had very little bondo. Also very little rust. Quote Link to comment
the510keeper
Victory is stripping again, take it off baby Once stripped you need to neutralize the stripper with water and clean off the residue with a scotch bright to bad we couldn't leave like this Quote Link to comment

the510keeper
Welding up a few holes and a small amount of rust before sealing Masking all the sheetmetal so we can spray the jambs without adding work of sand overspray off Now that the jambs are sealed and wont rust, we move on to the sheetmetal, and seamsealing the gutters. Ready for metal lock self etching primer Haven't got to the right quarter, we will be using a sedan gas door in place of the factory cap. 1 Quote Link to comment
