Previously Owned Vehicles

Recommended Posts

Sometimes I get to thinking about the cars I've owned in the past. Some of those times I have trouble remembering all of them. So, I thought I'd write them all down for posterity. I'm one ahead of my goal of one vehicle for every year I've been driving.

Starting with the most recent:

1970 Datsun 521

DSCI0844-1.jpg

1966 Datsun 520

74036_520827032815_152400042_30748616_5257124_n.jpg

1990 Subaru Loyale (My DD)

1986 Subaru GL-10 (Sold to move to Portland. Kind of wish I hadn't... sold it that is.)

100_0539-1.jpg

Mazda Protege (Blew head gasket on the interstate 45 minutes from my house in Nashville at 2 am, and it was raining.)

1998 Buick Century (Older brother drove it into a telephone pole on New Year's Eve '07.)

1993 Ford Escort Wagon (Tree fell on it. All I had was liability insurance, and the homeowner's insurance wouldn't cover it, even though she had been told to cut it down because it was dead.)

Actually right before this happened I had just parked, but my car would not turn off. I was under the hood trying to figure out how to turn it off. Went inside to warm up and no more than 5 minutes later heard a huge crash:

Dodge Dynasty (Had 315,000 miles when I sold it. Only thing wrong with it was the oil pan was dented right across the plug, but my mom was giving me her Escort.)

1996 Mercury Sable (Loaned it to my brother when I had my license suspended. I got it back and the next day the head gasket blew.)

1991? Ford Escort Wagon (Sold for no other reason than to buy a different car.)

1989 Plymouth Voyager (Sold for no other reason than to buy a different car.)

1985 Chevy Celebrity (Sold for no other reason than to buy a different car.)

1981 Chevy Citation 3-door hatchback (Just died. Not sure what happened. There were transmission, brake, and electrical problems. I only paid $200 for it and drove it 6 months.)

I've had so many it's hard to remember. I still have 17 right now, after a peak of 20. Getting rid of ones I want to get rid of has been... difficult. I won't list the ones I still have, or this list would go on forever. I've gotten RID of 20, though one I actually never "owned" as it was there and gone when I was 16, so my Mom owned it. The rest I bought (or was given) outright.

Most recent sale:

'75 620, sold to the friend of someone on here, but haven't heard anything about it.

'76 KC parts truck, given to Tdaaj. Had been my DD for the prior 3 years, but was rusted to the point it was unsafe.

'71 Ford F250, given to Tdajj's brother. I'd had that 12 years, had been my grandfathers.

'83 200SX that never ran right. Sold to a drift guy in Bellevue in 2007

'77 620 KC shell, gave that away

'71 521, traded that to tdaaj

'85 Mercury Grand Marquis Colony Park. Traded that to Tdaaj. Was a great car, but I'd fried the wiring when the trailer wires got shorted.

'80 Chevy Citation. Traded it to Tdaaj who sold it to a kid who promptly destroyed it.

'77 280Z, never ran right, 100 miles between breakdowns, always something EFI related, Traded that to a kid up in Burien, who had the same problems with it. Got his basket case 510 in trade.

'81 510 Wagon. Beautiful car... Rebuilt engine, fully reupholstered, working A/C... had it 6 months before I got rear-ended on the freeway so hard it broke the seat rails and threw the radio into the back seat.

'71 521, was a rolled wreck 22 years before I got it, stripped and had a hulk hauler take it.

'80 510 2-door. Sold or traded it to Tdaaj as parts, though it ran. Was wrecked, though, but I drove it that way for a couple years.

'81 510 2-door. Was just a parts car, no engine, got it from Tdaaj. Stripped it and hauled it to the junkyard.

'81 510 2-door, traded it to a kid in Shelton for the 521 listed above, the trip to trade it was the one that killed the Mercury listed above. Got rid of it only because it wouldn't pass smog.

'77 620, sold it to someone who shall not be named, who sold it to someone who 2 years later dumped it on Interurban. Since no one transferred title, guess who got the cops calling?

'91 Chevy Corsica, sold it to my Dad, my Brother is STILL driving it 10 years later. It's almost dead- if it fails emissions this year he said he will finally get rid of it. It barely passed last time.

'76 B210, gave it to a college buddy, he drove it a while but carb issues did it in.

'74 620 parts truck, had no front end, City of Seattle made me get rid of it when neighbors complained.

'78 510 Hatchback, bought right after I graduated High School. Was an insurance total I resurrected, though never really "fixed" since the unibody was bent. Let my sister use it while I was in Boot camp and such, she ran into a party rentals truck on the freeway and added more damage. Parted it into my 3rd '78 510 H/B and disposed of it when the city complained (this was a year before the complaint above)

'78 510 Wagon, Not really mine, was in my Mom's name, since it was destroyed before I could legally own a car. It was the one I took my driving test in, but had it less than a year before someone ran a red and T-boned me. Insurance took the car, it was destroyed beyond all hope anyway.

Aw, hell. I'll list what I still have:

1978 510 Wagon, I've had since 1991 (I've had title since 1993- my Mom held title until then)

1979 620 Longbed, which I've had since 1993 but have never registered for multiple reasons

1978 510 Hatchback, bought out of a wrecking yard- I've never put an engine back in it because... (1994)

1978 510 Hatchback, was supposed to be a parts car for the above but it got parted into (1994)

1974 620, bought at a tow auction, it does the dirty jobs (1999)

1983 720 KC (2002)

1968 520, bought off eBay. (2002?)

1964 320, also bought off eBay (2003?)

1978 620 4X4 (2003)

1976 620 Longbed, was a 4X4 but needs xfer case to be one again, also a tow auction vehicle (2005)

1978 B210, got from tdaaj in one of those trades (2005)

1972 510 Wagon, got by trading the '77 Z (2005)

1972 521 with a dead Ford V-6 in it, never ran (2006)

1981 510 Wagon (2007)

1971 AM General M35A2 "Deuce and a Half" (2008)

1976 620 KC (with a sordid history)- current daily driver, (2009)

1984 Chevy M1028 (military designation) K30 truck, (2010)

I've got a disease. I'm not sure there's a cure either!

god damn guys enough cars? some of you have had more cars then everyone in my household combined

my list in order

76 datsub 610 (first car got it for graduating highschool dad told me i have a choice of the datsun or the 77 buick electra whichever i picked if i fixed it myself i could have it)-t-boned:(

56 chevy 3600 stepside pickup (bought from the neighbor for $500 complete and all original clean paper work and all i couldnt pass this baby up)-still have

73 datsun 610 ( got this one to replace the t-boned one you guys know all about this car)-still have

man i thought i was bad with 3 cars by the age of 24

Link to comment

Ha ha... shit, Ill count them up when Im done

78 Caprice classic- sisters car, was given to me

66 impala SS- traded the caprice for it, got everything straightened out and in primer/sealer and got t-boned by a drunk bitch in a parking lot... last time I ever bought insurance from some cheap no-name company... long story

66 caprice wagon (ex big block drag car) slapped all the SS stuff on it drove it for about a month before I realized that drag suspension and 4k pounds suck on the street. Sold to a big samoan mexican dude fresh out of rehab.

83 celebrity with a 4.3, it was free and I drove it like it was stolen, scrapped it after a camping trip where I blew two tires and put a hole in the oilpan after I jumped it about 10 feet in the air... theres a reason off road race drivers wear helmets and kidney belts... holy shit

74 ford courier, lowered with 16s and z rated tires... couldnt kill it and it would get rubber in third. Still one of the funnest vehicles I have ever owned.

68 Chev c/10 80k original, damn near cherry, got sideswiped in a 6 or 7 car accident on a 2 lane highway, drove it home and it was totalled about a month later when a semi truck switched lanes into me and ran me into a rock wall... truck was totalled.

68 Dodge polara 2dr. Friggin sweet car. I saw it all crusty with a tow tag on it and had to have it, I put a built 318 in it that some guy had in an old 620 drag truck and drove the shit out of it. Flat black with red pinstripe scallops and slammed on old school american torque thrusts. Thing had acres of chrome... still one of the coolest and nicest cars I have ever owned. It is also the car that introduced me to and made me hate the elitist fuck car club attitude. It got stolen and trashed by some tweaker neighbor kid. I waited outside his house for him to come home damn near all night and he never showed, he got arrested that morning. Its probably a good thing because Id probably still be in jail. The plan involved a roll of duct tape a baseball bat and an honest curiosity of how many bones I could break before he passed out... I never saw him again but I heard he ODd, self inflicted karma or something. I sold it for $200 for parts.

68 chrysler 300, HP440, cop suspension, dana 60 disk brakes... the PO got hammered and hit a telephone pole... it was a parts car for the polara that I never got to use.

62 New yorker, I got it for the 413, some guy bought it to be used as a prop in some grade B movie, I dont even know if it ever got made.

70 duster, solid twister orange 6cyl car... I had a spare big block and that was the plan until I joined the AF, I gave it to a friend. I think he got into the 9s with the 440 and a 727.

71 and 72 c/10s the 71 was a parts truck and provided all the parts to make the 72 damn near perfect. I had the 72 at my moms when I joined the air force and some fucks stripped a lot of the parts off of it. I sold it after that for more than I paid for it and still gave the guy a hell of a deal... shouldve kept it.

80 something geo metro rust bucket in guam, I drove it once and about fell through the floor... staged a head on accident or 3 with an equally rusted to shit pulsar NX in the dorm parking lot and ended up snapping the timing belt and spilling my beer. Its currently at an undisclosed location at the bottom of a 300 foot cliff, it was pulled by the NX with a fire extinguisher wedged against the gas pedal. Funny thing, the entire engine assembly actually fell out of the NX on the first bounce and kept running for a good 3 or 4 minutes, I thought we were going to have to climb down the cliff and retrieve the fire extinguisher from the car to put a fire out...

87 Honda accord, another rust bucket replacement car for the metro, broke a motor mount on a coconut when I was driving down a jeep trail with 4 guys and a trunk full of dive gear/tanks. I gave it away when I left and its probably still getting passed around like a dirty rusty whore. Thing ran like a top and would go anywhere with enough momentum

74K5, still got this one, It was my DD in alaska and my first 4 wheel drive. I lifted it and put some 35s on it when I caught the wheeling bug. Its currently rusting away at my moms house and I feel guilty every time I look at it. I drove the ALCAN 3 times in it and went all over the trails of AK and it never let me down.

78 GMC SWB, lifted on one tons and boggers, all the tricks done to it to make it a friggin beast. I thought t was indestructible till it was hit by a drunk fuck with no license and he sheared the suspension off the frame and splattered the tranny/t-case. I got 3500 from insurance and sold the wreck for 3500 and still lost my ass...

78 Bronco, I picked it up to sell, fixed it up a bit, wheeled the shit out of it and broke even when I sold it. Awesome trucks but bigblocks are friggin thirsty pigs.

72, 73 and 74 fj40s... I was scraping up parts to make an off road beast when I found the GMC. I gave the 74 to my room mate who finished it and built an AMAZING wheeler out of that he drove 3 times... literally... and sold the 72 and the 73 to some guy who didnt speak english. We transferred the title at the DMV and I saw the 72 about a week later stranded on the side of the road, about a week after that it was just a rusty tub (the only bad part on the whole truck)

99 Tacoma TRD, lifted on 35s Beautiful truck and cured me of my love for chevys, It was a monster off road and still the only vehicle that I have ever driven on one wheel.

02 Cummins HO/6 speed and a few minor mods... seriously fuck gas motors... I sold it when diesel hit 4.50 a gallon, insurance and fuel was costing me a grand a month. I really really really miss that truck. Its the only thing I have ever driven that would spin the tires in 4th.

74 Datsun 620, The vehicle that got me into Datsuns... had 36K when I got it, it had been sitting under a lean to down in the tricities for about 15 years. The guy said it had a bad motor or something and that he couldnt get it to run right, the factory head gasket had been improperly installed and the metal ring was around the cylinder was bent and broken... Fixed that and went through all the electrical, brakes, fluids, shocks, tires, exhaust and a bit more and now it just needs some minor dings taken care of and a paint job.

78 and 76 king cab, Im 6'3" and a standard cab is uncomfortable and I couldnt bring myself to change anything on the 74... Had a rebuilt front end and a sweet plaid interior with a tach... I got the 76 KC out of a field as a parts truck, between the two I had all the parts to make one solid KC. The 78 ended up getting stolen by a friend (long story) along with a shitload of cool parts and I was left with a POS 76 field truck that had a solid cab and a decent bed and thats about it. Ive got the 76 about halfway together now but I get pissed off every time I buy something that I already bought or fix something that I already fixed on the 78... I might finish it someday... Im on the 3rd motor and 2nd transmission and Ive driven it around the block a couple times in the three years Ive owned it.

72 510 wagon, its a beater but its friggin cool  Its my parts getter in the summertime. I saw it in a parkinglot with a please do not tow sign on it and the guy left a phone number so I called him and asked him if he wanted to get rid of it. LZ22, dogleg, 3:70s, rides like a shitbox and smells like gas/exhaust/wet dog and got 30 mpg to Canby and back... I friggin love it

78 standard cab, blue, its the one that was for sale on here. If it didnt look so good it would have been a parts truck. It had all new body rubber but it had a shitload of just plain wrong repairs and the interior was friggin rotten, literally, it was covered in mold and the floors had been glassed over so many times it wasnt funny. I would have stripped it but I had enough spares from scraping up the parts for the KC so I put it together and it ended up really fucking nice. A kid from idaho gave me a deposit on it today. He is excited about it and I think hes going to enjoy the hell out of it. He knows about the site but I dont know if hes signed up or not.

Oh yeah, I had an 84 720 (I tried giving it away on here and nobody wanted it, I posted it up on craigslist for cheap and it sold in a couple days  ) and an 82 accord too... Had it in the garage and had a few too many beers doing an oilchange one night and broke out the spraypaint, duct tape, and sheetmetal screws and performed some minor modifications. Just FYI, sheetmetal screws arent the proper mounting hardware for a 3 foot plywood spoiler, it WILL fly off at freeway speed

My current driver is an 01 tacoma ex cab 4x4, nothing special but its got 4WD and I dont have to try hard to fight the urge to go changing shit...

Whats that make? damn near 30? Datsuns have been by far the most love/hate (also the most fun and economical)of any brand that I have had and Ive also met some of the coolest people through them.
