I guess I take for granted that every Canadian has a minimum level of protection. Nothing's perfect but it's something. If this had been implemented in the states 50 years ago, there wouldn't be so much whining now.

No one likes change at first. Then eventually it gets accepted and many times is better than what was in place. Healthcare definitely needs to change in the US, it can't keep going the way it's going. Thus the current debate. If you look back at certain influential presidents, they all did similar things that are hailed as great achievements now, but were vehemently opposed back then. FDR's new deal, Teddy Roosevelt's national parks, etc., etc.

People are really acting stupid with assuming the whole country is going to turn in the USSR and Obama is going to start buddying up with Osama bin laden. I think it's fear, mainly. I try to stay the heck out of it, but so far this thread is civil, so I'll throw in my brief opinion while it remains that way.

Its not about health care, never was. It's about government.

Have you ever looked at a problem and said to yourself: The best solution is a government bureaucracy, because, well, the government sure knows how to spend my money better than me, and with their efficiency, it'll be the bee's knees

I completely agree with the second amendment, and will fight to the death for it, should that ever become necessary.

I liken the current state of events with health care similar to like when our autocross club decided to go PAX, which SCCA uses to make everything "fair." I hate it. PAX sucks, time is time. We still run rallycross as time only, no pax index. But when we were discussing it, I fought tooth and nail against, but in the end, I couldn't come up with a better idea, and there was evidence (from SCCA) to show that it would work. So we voted, I lost, and we now use PAX. I still hate it, but I've accepted that's the way it is, unless we get a better system.

I'm not a big fan of more government, but I still think it will be more beneficial in the long run. I may be wrong, but I'm willing to take the chance at the moment. If it goes south I'll be unhappy, but I don't think it will have a huge effect on myself, being I'm young and in fairly decent health. In another 20 years or so, I might be more impacted from what's happening now.

That's assuming I don't die by wrapping the 510 around a tree on a stage. :D

My problem is with the how. If we had voted on it and the majority was for it, thats fine. But ramrodding something through that 59%(cnn much more by other polls) oppose on a Sunday afternoon using the same old dirty tricks and back door deal (change?). Shenannigans

I cant believe what Im reading from most of you. Every time the government gets involved and takes over, WE lose more of our freedom. Freedom is what makes America So great. Just ask all the immigrants that have travel here the past 100 yrs. They tell ya. And I dont really care who's in the office, as long as the abide by the Constitution of The United States of America. NOT there own agenda.....As for health care, Im self employed, Three children and No insurance. And yet, they can keep it. I'll make due myself..

Whew, I feel somewhat better now.

Have a nice Day.

My opinion is JESUS CHRIST quit bitchen! Like it does any good anyways. I hope the shit goes through. Its bout god damn time we start helping each other out, instead of sending aid and god know's what else to other countrys in this world. The canadians and the brits got it made. Yea its aint perfect but rarley anything is. I've seen to many people lose homes etc due to medical bills. Somethings better than anything!

It is what it is.

We're all on this ride together. Obviously we're not in control anymore, so all we can do is adapt. If you want to get all uptight about it and give yourself an ulcer and higher blood pressure, you're gonna need the health care anyway.

I'm not a fan of it, but what's the alternative? Another civil war? I see that as the only alternative at this point. So we can either put up our dukes or deal with it. Either way, it's gonna cost us.

We hear this and that but in reality we don't know till the rubber hits the pavement. In other words, this thing passed now let's see how it's like 1, 2,3, 4 ,5 years from now, then we can make an honest decision whether or not this is another failed Govt. scheme. With that said, I do believe that this great country of ours need to do something to ensure that the vast majority of people, especially children, the sick and elderly should in some form be covered. My wife works at a hospital and she tells me how much they charge for a fricken screw, bandages and it's just amazing, someone is making bucco bank.

Skib, lock this right now!

I would rather see ten pointless, bored, cat fucker threads than talk about politics and religion. This is seriously boring shit!!

Problems:

Uninformed electorate

Apathetic voters

Any discussion of politics needs to start with campaign finance reform, PERIOD. It is BS that Congressman and Senators need to raise a couple hundred thousand buck a month for a $165K a year job.

Both parties are all bought and paid for by big corporations.

Corporations that have moved all our living wage jobs to other countries, so they can rape their raw materials, pollute their landscape and exploit their work force. We don't produce anything in this country any more except weapons and munitions.

The Supreme Court is legislating from the bench! Thanks Dubya, you fuck. You and Cheney should be hanging upside down from a rope for war crimes, getting water boarded and have your balls beat with a sledge hammer, you rat bastards.

The Corporatocracy rules this country and the world, controlling 90% of all the wealth. They control most of the media. They give us the Glen Becks, Rush Limbaughs, Sarah Palins to provide misdirection to the ignorant masses, so the real issues are obscured. They play us like puppets. They give us TV, the Internet, mindless entertainment, cheap disposable consumer products and suck our tax dollars for corporate bail outs. It's like the Roman Colosseum where they give the citizens entertainment, bread and wine... so they are happy and don't bitch. The government is like a condom... they give us a sense of security while they fuck us.

I watched C-span all day on Sunday. That was some great TV! The Republicans need to get Emmy Awards for their righteous indignation and faux patriotism. They were like a bunch of little kids that got their dick caught in a zipper, whine, moan... we are spending our childrens future... the deficit... paying for abortions... whine, moan.

The only thing funnier was the idiot Tea Baggers outside!! Except, that it was not funny, ha, ha, it was sad.

I don't want my tax money funding abortions either... but I don't want my tax money going to the Pentagon! Fuck war! Are we stupid? Did we learn nothing from Viet Nam?

A bunch of fat, old, bald, rich guys, bitching about how their Christian values are being subverted. If they had any real compassion, they wouldn't be taking money from big insurance and pharmaceutical corporations and pass some legislation that wasn't a big gift to the Insurance companies. You might be able to argue that entitlement programs are not American but how can you defend for profit health care? The way they make money, is take premiums, raise premiums, deny claims and cancel policies when they have to pay out on unprofitable policies.

Hey, I want to thank all you guys that have jobs and pay taxes. You are paying for my healthcare! I got the best health care!! It doesn;t cost me a cent and I get all the prescription drugs I could ever need. (I try to stay healthy and don't need or even take asprin, but if I did I could renew prescriptions by mail).

I guess I am a freaking socialist!!! I am covered by the VA, because I am a VET. If I hear one more person thank me for my service, I'm going to puke. You are thanking me by paying for my free, fantastic health care!

I think that this is all business as usual, politics as usual. Yeah, great that some legislation has passed, but the bill sucked in so many ways. Now they need to fix it! We need to be able promote small business and entrepreneurship, so we can compete in this world economy. We could fix this, if we paid attention, used our brains, voted and remained active in our government.

If we don't put people back to work and reign in big corporations, there will be riots in the streets. Almost every person I talk to or meet is having or had some kind of melt down in their lives because they lost jobs, businesses, houses, cars, everything they worked all their lives for, retirement, can't pay for their health care, can't get their kids into college, Etc.

If there are any questions about what is up, just follow the money. This was a big gift to the Insurance companies. Maybe it will help some people, but we needed single payer and that is not what we are getting... well you aren't getting... I am. Instead of these huge for profit companies making eighyt cents on the dollar, now they will only have to settle for forty cents on the dollar.

Anybody out there really kickin' it. Anybody making more money than they can spend? I didn't think so.

I think there is one more bubble to burst. All the people that have been living off their credit cards are going to default. Fasten your seat belts. If you thought the depression was bad and listened to the media tell you that it was over...

Skibster lock this bullshit or I will get medieval on Obama... and I voted for the guy.

National health care seems to work okay for the other developed countries, so I think it could work here too if we do it right.

I think the problem is that what we have is not currently health care, it's disease care. Isn't ~90% of the health care money spent on the last 1% of life? Why not spend the money on prevention instead.

I hate to say it but it seems like a large majority of Americans are fat and lazy compared to the rest of the world, and we set ourselves up for this mess, in a way.

I've traveled to Europe and Asia (even in Canada) and when I return after a week or so, I'm appalled at how obese we Americans are. In other countries most people walk to get to places, or take public transportation. Sheit, I've seen people get in their car to drive down a short driveway to get the mail. Or, you see some fat people with handicap placards parking as close to the front door as possible, when they should be the ones walking from at least the end of the parking lot. (I know, maybe it is some thyroid problem, but conservation of energy comes to mind)

In France, everyone is required to take a physical each year, so that prevention can take place which is much cheaper than treating the disease at the very late stages. As an analogy, isn't it far cheaper to do regular maintenance on cars like changing the oil, rather than ignoring it and having to do a costly engine replacement due to neglect?

Anyway, that's my two cents..
