paradime
After cleaning up a bunch of wiring in the engine bay and under the dash I started it and it actually ran, the break lights, blinkers, and gauges all work. I must have done something wrong. Even new spark plug wires 2 Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Looks good. You have no doubt read 1 billion ways to run your crank case ventilation. With 1 billion ways why the other 999999999999999999999 million are wrong. I did the typical front tee to catch can, and either vent or plum to turbo inlet. I was filling my catch can every day. Sometimes twice on the weekend days. My engine is tight and blow by is not the issue (no dipstick popping either). I capped off the front tee with a silicone nipple and zip tie. Rear side of tee is as stock (runs to block drain). I removed my PCV valve and dumped it to the ground. Zero oil issues. Nothing comes out but water vapors. Maybe a hint of yellow oil, but it has never dripped in my garage. Obviously you can choose to vent into a can and then to atmo, or into tip. Before this I had bought an upgraded Mitsu evo pcv "good for 45psi". It made no difference on how fast my can filled up. I could not see spending the money on the s13/14 hybrid valve cover, so this is the super simple, cheap option. Let that bad boy eat! 1 Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Oh and mount your ignitor to a heat sink. I used this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/100x100x18mm-Aluminum-Heatsink-for-Chip-CPU-LED-IC-Radiator-Cooler-Cooling/192416575154?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2649 Very overkill, but what'ev. paradime
Thanks Heywier, great info. I've always had mine basically plumbed into a bone stock catch can with no issues. One day I noticed the hose to the can took a shit and had split at the bottom, I assume heat from the turbo. Funny thing is, the hose was dry and I found no evidence of oil dripping anywhere. I'm boosting 15 psi so I assumed there'd be a mess, but no drips no issues WSE. It's got to be venting somewhere, but damned if I know. Runs like a raped ape so I'm not pissing up a rope trying to figure it out. I like the heat synch idea, but I'm running LS2 coil packs, so I have no ignitor chip. Pretty easy wiring conversion and gives a SUPER powerful controllable spark, capable of sequential ignition, not that I'm at that level, but... 1 Quote Link to comment
heywier427
Its crazy how some people have the issue, and others are like "whats the big deal, I have no issues?" I too am only boosting to 15-18, but with a ginormous holset, and its all up top. I wonder if turbo size or rpm boost onset has something to do with it. Maybe this engine is more tired than the numbers show, but leakdown and compression are all above average. Until she blows, she will be beat on :) Are you able to open up plug gap with the Ls2 coils? Better cruising mpg? I am gapped to 28 atm. No real low rpm misfiring to warrant wanting to change. 1 Quote Link to comment

edekalil
Drove it to work for the first time this year in preperation for the drive to the The Mitty@ Road Atlanta. Just wondering what dates will that take place at Road Atlanta? I see now it looks like it's my birthday weekend the end of April. I'd love to be there I'm off through that week getting the Goon going. I have a Nephue up there in Atlanta. Quote Link to comment

edekalil
Making plans for next week when I get off to get the gas tank back in the Goon. Also hook up all of what needs to be hooked up under the hood and get a battery and then she should fire up on her own and run and drive again. As well as do some tinkering on the sedans and run them. Quote Link to comment

jovial_cynic
I installed my intercooler. I originally put on the outside of the car, but got some flack for it on the FB group, so I reinstalled it on the inside. Quote Link to comment

edekalil
Tried to install the gas tank in the Goon , having issues getting the old filler rubber (now hard cause it's old) to connect back with the tank. Also wondering if there are any better fitting hose material for the 2 smaller hoses that connect to the tank then through the framework to the tubes made to the body that go's to the canister in the rear inner quarter panel. Now my old body is hurting but what the heck. I'll now have to re figure this out. Not having any friends around to help is a drag as well. I do know it came out so it should go back in. datsuntech
Use a heat gun or hair dryer to heat up the rubber and it'll get pliable again and install while still warm as it will get hard again when cool. Obviously, don't do this or be very careful if there is fuel present....
