Icehouse
Okay. I saw you had a great idea for the rad and intercooler, but DAMN I'm dying to know more. Are you able to keep the center brace with that Mishimoto intercooler? At 3"X11.5X27.5 it seems a bit big to fit in the little indent at the bottom. Hard to tell from where I'm sitting. Your coupe being all JDM RHD and all, I would imagine you'll keep the stock bottom turbo mount setup on the SR, so odds are the intercooler will be mounted low. If you have no choice but to cut out the center brace (as you know upper brace then get's floppy) I wanted to share my solution. Although my intercooler is taller over all, I believe it's as wide and deep as yours. I actually used the intercooler mounting bungs to support the upper rad brace. I just used a few extra washers to space it so the hood latch pin didn't hit the top of the IC. Worked out real good. Only disadvantage is it would put your inlet up high, but at the sane time, the cool air outlet would line right up with the throttle body. I won't even bill you the $.02 for that one. God Speed Jeff I'm going to do it the same way we did Dillon's car years and years ago. I tired to think of a better way but it just seems to be the cleanest. I don't like setups where the intercooler goes under the radiator. I don't mind cutting the front of the car, to me that's what hotrods are about, customization. Thats one good reason to buy beaters :) 8 Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
If only all the moderators on this site embraced this concept. Good for you, I can't wait to see where this build goes. All the moderators here embrace this concept. Some of them get tired of the same story though. "Hey I want to (insert whatever custom mod here) what do I need to know?" 2 months later the car is in pieces and for sale in the classifieds or on the way to the scrap yard. :) Then there's guys like Icehouse that will use 3 of those tossed aside projects to build 7 different cars. We just try to make sure the first guy doesn't do anything rash. ;) 5 Quote Link to comment

Icehouse
Been really busy but still had some time to get a little done on the coupe. Trying to prep the engine bay still. filling holes and fixing rust. Common Datsun engine bay respray requirements. The rust isn't any worse than most the local cars. Below the battery and the center drain area. I need to get it primed so I can push it outside for a week or two. Got a few other items I need to get done. Here are some pics. Stock rad drain fit the aluminum radiator. super rusty! Sam says we should make some and see if anyone would buy them. I thought hey next time I'd use on for sure. Would save a bunch of time thats for sure. If nothing else I'll have a life time supply :) I so love having a CNC mill in my shop! HHMM .010" makes a nice slip fit for welding haha :) Some rust that was covered by some sort of putty, maybe gutter seal? Yuck! Not as bad as I was expecting underneath. Behind valance Frank loves sanding engine bays! don't need this hole. Also you can see some deepish rust near the battery tray. Worst area, I want to plastic off the rest of my garage and so some sand blasting. It doesn't need much. Someone buy this old steering! My RHD rack showed up :) 8 Quote Link to comment

Icehouse
Picked up the drive train for the coupe. Got it from Bill at Foreign Engines. It's a S15 SR20DET with 6 speed :) Figured since it's for the coupe I figured I better get the good one. Although it seems cool getting a front clip is more a pain than anything else. I'm going to put whats left of it on CL for free, hopefully someone takes it. Other wise I gotta chop it up. I spent today pulling the motor out. Thanks to Squirl for bringing it home for me. Wow it was exciting unloading it. Somehow we did it. Here are some pics. 6 Quote Link to comment
Draker
You gonna go through the motor before installing it? I bought a z32 from clip for my z from foreign engines. Has a bit of piston slap. I'd probably buy from them again though. It was cheap.. I should have dug a little futher into the motor when I had it on the stand. 1 Quote Link to comment
Icehouse
I've never had an issue with any JDM motors so I'm just going to go for it. The clip was almost 100% stock, it has Nismo dampers. 1 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Same here. Bone stock. It's still a good motor. Have 10k on it and perfect compression. I have bad luck. Ive thought about getting a sr20de from them a time or two. 1 Quote Link to comment
paradime
Although the rack conversion clears a path, the RHD Coupe makes it so damn easy to keep the stock turbo set up with the DET. And with an s15, you got VVT to fill in the bottom end and T28 to for all the rest. That's a killer combination for a little Bluebird. Thing should seriously hall ass. 1 Quote Link to comment

I know it would have still been a bolt in without the rack, but I often switch back and forth daily driving my Sunny or my 510. It's painful to go back to a steering box and carburetor in my Sunny!! I sourced two RHD racks, later my Sunny will get one as well. Each upgrade makes our cars so much more enjoyable. So hard to go backwards! Plus my coupe is a keeper. 2 Quote Link to comment
Stoney
Keep the dash vents for the datto, they replace the original ones easily. 1 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Jeff, I just remembered that I have the parcel shelf from under the rear window for a coupe that I got from Rich, I was going to cut it down and use it in my car but I never did. Do you need it? 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I'm pretty sure this car will be done before mine ;) 1 Quote Link to comment
