datsunfreak
ironically because it's the furthest point south other than Florida. I'd call it south too. . We do not because the climate/topography is closer to the southwest. And because we did not side with the south in the war of northern aggression. ^_^ 2 Quote Link to comment
hobospyder
While I would be hip to that, it's a pretty long drive, about 3 hours and 15 minutes away. drove from San Antonio to Dallas last year while I was down there. Family in San Antonio and Waco and a buddy in Austin. Pretty sure I spent more time in the car than I did sleeping now that I think about it 2 Quote Link to comment

RatVonDude
If you're into pinball, even a little go to Pinballz Arcade. Mind bowing. Spiderhouse has some seriously bad ass coffee and breakfast grub. Nubian Queen Lola’s Cajun Soul Food. As for BBQ, I've never been to Salt like, but don't let anyone talk you into going to Franklin. It's a joke IMO. Sick Mexican food everywhere, but breakfast is the best meal for TexMex. try Chilaquiles, it Mexican Freto pie, but WAY better. See a movie at Alamo Drafthouse, you won't regret it, even if it's a shitty movie. They serve BEER and food you can take to your seat. Also see who's playing at the Paramount theater. The best music venue in Tx. Please give us a report on the race track. I've heard good things. They converted the New Mission theater into a Alamo Draft houses on 22nd and Mission SF Ca. I think it's over priced and tacky for the Historic mission district. Sxsw sucks , El Paso, Dayton!!! Quote Link to comment

Rhapakatui
I think I have actually eaten there before. If I recall correctly, the beer was great. Pics of the drunken tattoo? Fun fact: The Texas State Capitol building is 19 ft taller than the United States Capitol. Because Texas. 3 Quote Link to comment
Wrench Of Life
Native Austinite checking in. Welcome to town! I'm glad you went to the Capitol, as it's quite a sight. Other things to check out are Barton Springs pool (be prepared for the cold temperature) and the Elisabet Ney Museum. If you're into fancy motorcycle stuff, Revival Cycles on South Congress is a nice place to gawk around in. I'll agree with the earlier post that Franklin's is a total rip-off of your time. There's much better BBQ to be had for much less effort, like La Barbecue (some of the best brisket I've ever had) and Freedmen's, which is located in a really cool ancient building, Salt Lick is meh to my taste. I think it's more about the atmosphere. If you want a true taste of Central Texas BBQ, head south about 45 mins and go to Smitty's in Lockhart. It's the real deal. Have fun and let me know if you need any more suggestions! 2 Quote Link to comment
