harlow426@msn.com
last night we got to the bottom of the gallon of super build primer . So at this point in time we have put a gallon of primer on this truck . I wonder how much of that gallon ended up as 'sanding-dust'. sweep it all up and re-constitute it! gladly take any unwanted leftover primer when all done. 2 Quote Link to comment

MicroMachinery
Props to you, man.... no, men. I applaud this build. Your dedication to the brand and the craft leaves me speechless again and again. I know now that this is not for anything else than the pleasure of the pursuit of excellence. Your efforts are indeed exemplary. To all who have sweat and toiled over this machine, from both near and far, kudos. You're part of a magnificent experience that will be remembered. This is so cool :) 10 Quote Link to comment

I think the main parts still needed are ; defrost vent , 520 glove box , headlight switch , fuel tank , a drivers door handle . Those are the i can think of right now . please keep in mind I only have about a week (ish) to get any parts donated here to be installed . Eventually I will just have to donate any missing parts myself , but it would be nice to hang on to a few of my own parts . DanielC
the 1968 tank is most likely a vented, non evaporative emission gas tank. I think the Canby truck has the evaporative emission, or non vented gas tank. For the headlight switch, we have gone back and forth on this a lot. Datsun PL 521 trucks had a significant wiring change. They started out with a three always hot, three ignition switched fuse block, and later changed to a four always hot, two ignition switched fuse block. this affects the light switch. The three always hot fuse box had only one fuse for both headlights, and the taillights, and other minor lights. the four always hot fuseblock had a seperate fuse for headlights, and a second fuse for all the other lights. Some light switches have a four terminal plug. Other light switches have a six terminal plug, but only five of the spaces in the plug are used. I cannot remember, with accuracy, if the dash harness has the four space plug, or the six space plug Albert, Please check the dash wiring harness,,and see what PLUG is on the harness for then light switch. That is the type of light switch we need. 1 Quote Link to comment
denmarkboy
Thanks for that info Dan , Ted has the defrost duct , and the headlight switch . The one we needed was the 4 wire square plug . 1 Quote Link to comment

TENDRIL
Shouldn't the primer cure for atleaste two days at 70*+? So it can outgas 1 Quote Link to comment
datsunrides
Modern poly or urethane (2K) primers don't off gas like old solvent based primers. Even then, the lacquer type primers off gas pretty quickly. The last couple cars I painted I used a poly primer on one and one of the new DTM urethane primers on the other. I liked the PCL polyprimer, but it was kinda slow drying. The DTM urethane (5 star extreme) is nice in that with the poly, you still need to put down an epoxy base, but this can go direct to metal, saving the cost and time of the epoxy. Down side is that it's freaking expensive, especially if used as high build. (depending on reduction, it can be a sealer, regular build, or high build) 3 Quote Link to comment
