My straight die grinder has had a cut-off wheel arbor in it for 10 years? Put it in once, never took it out. 

 

 

I use my 90* daily. A lot. 

 

 

 

Different industries get more use out of things other tradesmen just toss in the bottom of the box. 

 

Truth be told though-tools are cool. (I like the direction this thread took.  :poke: )

I've been an auto tech for damn near half my life; I'm almost 37. 

 

I have tools in my box I have owned for 15+ years to only have used a time or two. Big money spent as well. 

But am so glad knowing it's there when need be.

I am 42 and have been a mechanic for about 20 years up until 2012 when I lost my job at the Chevy dealer, brought my shit home, was doing mobile maintenance and work from home. then in 2013  my big ass Snap-On box and all the tools I had were stolen from my barn out back one day while we were all gone. I was so depressed, I lost about well, I dunno exactly, somewhere between $10-15,000 in tools plus $4000 for the box. No insurance on them as the shops I worked at and stored the tools at had alarm systems and insurance. Now I sell parts at freaking Autozone, it sucks! I make a third of what I made as a tech. But my credit sucks and I can't afford to buy it all over again as I had collected them over that 20 years. I just keep my hopes up, keep going at it at this crappy job, and am going for ASE certification for parts specialist in the fall, that and over one year in parts along with all my years experience as a tech should be able to get me back in a dealer making good money again!

Someone that had seen and knew about your tools in the barn had told one of their lowlife buddys, and that guy knew when you were going to be gone, that was a planned event, it was someone you know.

All of my tools are in their supplied boxes. 

 

But I also have them insured through my renters policy. 

 

I'd be FUCKED if I had my shit stolen.

You may be right, but the Sherriffs, and NC State CCBI couldn't find any evidence, no prints other than people in my house. There were a string of break ins up and down the road here. They hit up tools, lawn mowers, ATV's, etc. Unfortunately, one con of living in the country is the neighbors are spread out, so no one hears or knows anything. Hell, my neighbor is so far away there could be a brutal murder involving loud screaming, etc and no one would ever know. Since this shit happened I want to move back to the city!

I have about 3 10mm deep sockets, but I rarely use 1/4 drive except when using my DC825 impact driver which I use quite a bit, but I also use a 1/4 to 3/8ths adapter a lot.

I use my 1/4 inch drive ratchet with the adapter a lot to, but I don't wrench for a living, my dad did and I inherited his tools, there is a lot of Craftsman and Proto in that tool box.

I've got dogs. My tools tend to stay put. And you can see them from the street too. Insurance is still a good idea, but I'm guessing there are minimum security guidelines to qualify. Locked facility etc.? Correct? Plus I live where the thieves tend to roost. The more affluent neighborhoods get all the fun.

 

Craftsman tools have gone down hill, but I'd like to point out that the Made in America stamp is no longer a standard if quality. I like participating in our economy by buying mia, but really, the best and worse alike come from China

I used to feed not to far from the pride and I would notice the starring also. Lately though I think it might be for possible membership, ughh..I wonder if I have to battle for the proper spot in the pride?

Not safe in the city either, I used to live in Westchester, CA near LAX, they jimmied my garage door open and got my top box. It was Snap on and full of Snap on tools, some of which I inherited from my grandfather, that were pre WWII. It took years to collect the first time, and twice as long to replace. I now own Snap on, Mac, and Matco, all have their pluses and minuses. For ratchets, I like Snap on also! :thumbup:
