q-tip
My dad is really bad with needles, he had a tumor removed and the nurse didn't get the iv in well and he said "you're going to have to wait until I'm out before you try to poke me with that damn thing again" 1 Quote Link to comment
RatVonDude
its actually very danger because people will avoid medical attention all together and the phobia itself can kill you because during an injection your heart rate and blood pressure change so drastically could cause severe shock 1 Quote Link to comment

datzenmike
anyone around here have a phobia of needles? went to a clinic today for this new job I'm working on. They want to monitor us for lead exposure because the building I'm working on is old. Anyway, I came a butthair away from walking out of the place and throwing this whole deal out the window because of my fear of needles. I HATE HATE HATE FUCKING HATE having my blood drawn. It took 4 nurses to fan me down with envelopes, one had a popper on hand encase I did faint. no problem with cuts, breaks, burns, beestings but why this fear? Vision just feeds the fear. Seeing the needle go in, seems to make it hurt more. I just hold my arm out and turn my head... no problem. Had a skin graft onto a finger I caught in a printing press accident and also some plastic surgery on my thumb to connect some nerves. I didn't watch either and so have no visual memory of it. I mean I remember the procedure but it's not re-enforced with a visual. I think it a waste of time for me to tell you not to be afraid of needles.... but you can lessen your fear by choosing to not watch. 2 Quote Link to comment

tr8er
Needles? Mike, it takes more time to tell him that it's a waste of time to tell him to not fear needles. You shoulda just told him. RVD, next time you need your blood drawn, don't fear needles. If there is a chucks pad under your dick, fear the needle. That and walk out of the clinic. Quickly. Quote Link to comment

It kind of becomes a technical skill. Some people get it. Same thing I later learned when I changed fields and needed to start IV's. 1 Quote Link to comment
