datzenmike
Pull the oil filter and check the contents. The bearing will shed fine flakes of material if going. If so you may be able to save it by dropping the pan are replacing the rod bearings now! If you keep going it will fuck the crank if not done already. If it's early, it can be saved for a gasket and some $50 rod bearings. If you have to run it, swap the oil for some 50 weight thick shit. Quote Link to comment

Guest 510kamikazifreak
For sure. Did you try a stethiscope (or a long screw driver) to listen to where the death knock is coming from? Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Forgot it was a car with a big ass X member. I still have 620 blindness. Rather than lift the motor out could you not support it on a hoist and disconnect the sway bar, tension rods and steering cross bar and simply lower the cross member with the LCAs attached? to access the pan? mklotz70
if your eng is toast, the guy(Josh?) driving the red 521 with aluminum wheels is selling his 2.0/trans/rad....all in good running/working condition. He had a perfect dash pad in the truck and hung out with the cute blonde and brunette....he's also the one that loaded up an SR20 from Jeremy at the end of the day. Quote Link to comment
exit64
Skunk, I am also working on it on this end after Skib called me last night. I will shoot over to E&L after work and talk to Don over there. One of his buddies in The Dalles has a stash of Datto stuff so you never know. Should have an answer by 5 or so this evening. Quote Link to comment

Skib
it may not be a bearing but theres alot of little noises and its very faint. were working on it today and getting rid of some of the loose shit and eliminating some of the other rattles Quote Link to comment
Pumpkn210
Datsuns do tend to be rattle traps! It did sound like somethin was wrong wit it though... Quote Link to comment

skunk
pulled some more stuff out of the engine bay, bolted down some things better. its still hard to pin point the noise, going to pull out the l20 intake/exhaust that bolted together and pull out the rest of the emissions stuff and ac stuff. see if getting all the extra crap out of there will help at all. I want to be 100% its not somthing stupid before spending money on stuff i dont need. Quote Link to comment
