PurePontiacKid
went for a more conservative approach with my mod. not sure what all issues I'll run into with even these haha If I can get more angle without rubbing or contacting anything, I'll go to a de-powered rack and use rack spacers and proper tie rods and whatnot. for now, this little extra should get me going haha Quote Link to comment
01gmc5.3
very interested in that mod let me know how it goes Quote Link to comment
Alex Datsun
Whats the benefit of depowered rack other than weight? Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
my car has a manual rack stock already, so weight savings isn't the big deal. my stock manual rack has silly looking inner tie rods, that don't have any aftermarket support at all, and I can't add spacers tog et more angle or even get cool aftermarket outers to correct bumpsteer. the power rack is the same design as regular S-chassis stuff, so I can run cool inners with built-in spacers, then add spacers if necessary, and also get cool outers and correct bumpsteer. ComicArtist
Idk if it's the same for s130's, but in a Miata if you run a powered rack with extra steering angle it tends to blow out the rack/pump. EDIT: plus all of the above reasons Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
before: after: before: after: It might not look like a whole bunch, but the difference is DEFINITELY noticeable. I've even got more to go, tie-rod/knuckle are hitting the control arms, notching another pair this week to gain even a little more angle. I'm definitely please with them, though. car feels better to drive, even under normal conditions and without an alignment haha lol I'm not going to run a powered rack, I'm going to run a de-powered power rack (putting power steering in a factory manual rack-equipped car is plasphemy) Quote Link to comment
bludestiny
Are you having any issues with the wheel rubbing on the inside of the wheel wheel? Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
no sir. 2" shorter than stock tires gives me good enough clearance for now. just ordered T3 RCA's, hopefully going to get my control arms modded this week and get everything in before my alignment this weekend haha Quote Link to comment
PurePontiacKid
and busted these out in a couple hours tonight: stock steering angle stopper thing cut that shit the fuck out weld a concave piece back the fuck in extra fucking clearance both fucking clearanced and sand blasted the fuck out of both braced the fuck up Quote Link to comment

PurePontiacKid
can't catch a break.. as some of you know, this happened over the weekend I plowed a big plastic barrier going like 30 (luckily it wasn't full of water haha). I wasn't too bothered with it since it happened when I was doing something cool, also finalized my decision to re-shell. then at work today, co-worker comes up and tells me he backed into my car, this is the aftermath: it was actually a LOT worse when I first saw it, I was able to punch a couple dents out with my bare hands (rage mode) but the guy fessed up to it, and is going to pay for a new hood, so I went to the junkyard down the street from work and picked up a clean hood: and that's all for now.
