I said years ago that he would grab more than needed then settle for what he has taken. Also said the West should have whipped him in the balls right of the bat. History repeats itself, this is what Hitler did.

Tanks are not obsolete, the same was said when anti tank missile systems were first deployed. The methods, tactics and expectations are obsolete and will change in response and tanks will remain on the battle field.

They are not obsolete in the same way battle ships are not... exactly. It didn't just stop one day but no one in the world is building them. Navies are primarily based around an aircraft carrier. Tanks are less and less important today. Rather that building better tanks it'll be better drones.

Sounds like a pretty damn defeatist game plan to hide in Canada. I hate to say this Tom, but you grossly under estimates the combat readiness of the US military forces, and the insane firepower from 39 military installations in the Western states. Now tell me why you think Russia or China could get past the list below.

If this isn't enough there's probably twice as many Indian casinos in California alone even if they get past the military..jussayin haha. If you've ever been to a California casino..IFYKYK! HAHA

On top of all that. We wouldn't even have to meet them with guns, just banners saying Welcome! It would be the largest defection in global history.

If you wanted to read the whole thing:

https://www.republicworld.com/world-news/us-news/us-firmly-opposed-to-ceasefire-between-russia-ukraine-peace-initiative-unacceptable-articleshow.html

RepublicWorld.com is a media propaganda tool for the Indian government. Just like the political bias news here, words and statements are taken out of context and twisted into mind fuck pretzel. Perfect example is this article where the splash headline completely distorts the facts and leads the reader to make assumptions. What Kirby said about Xi Jinping's visit with Putin last Friday:

In science

“A ceasefire now is effectively the ratification of Russian conquest”.

"There is no respect for Ukrainian seventy without Zelenskyy inclusion in peace talks with Xi."

“Russia would be free to use a ceasefire to only further entrench their positions in Ukraine to rebuild, refit and refresh their forces so that they can restart attacks on Ukraine at a time of their choosing”

Or you can trust India's version of events.

Battleships lobbed artillery. Its missiles now, guns are becoming obsolete when you can actually enter coordinates and send it on it's way.  We will see aircraft fade as the new drones become better and better and antiaircraft systems improve. War is changing quickly.

In a guerilla war the defender has to defend everything, every base covered, at all times and against every possibility, a monumental task. Too much alertness without action leads to complacency. The guerilla on the other hand sits back and attacks not only at his convenience and leisure but at a time and place of his choosing.

You ought to hear Fort Benning when they are shooting their stuff, the other day at work.I had to go get some ear plugs, gave me a bad head ache. They also do a lot of control burning that smoke's up Columbus. My little burn barrel is nothing compared to them.A lot of people complain about Fort Benning. But they are Government.Out here in Harris County, you can go in your yard and target practice,no law to stop you from shooting your gun.One guy close by has a of of ammo.A good thing about that is.They will not let people come around and do crime.

Yes, and the US Navy SEALs and Army Special Forces have perfected guerrilla warfare. That along with counter warfare and training irregulars to defend against it. With the help of the NSA, we'll likely know of an eminent attack before the guerilla fighters do. That's not to say our gubment wouldn't turn their back and used it as a pretense for all out war like they have in the past.

I'd say Afghanistan and Vietnam have already shown how that actually plays out in real life...

We are destined to go the way of the dodo and nothing that was said or done positive or negative will ever have mattered. Erased as though we never were here at all. The people in control have all gotten there against the wishes of their citizens. the perfect storm. Enjoy each day as though its the last and be thankful for who we share our lives with. We really need a winning thread , this losing thread sucks.

Don't forget Korea. All "modern" "limited" wars have followed the Korean model with similar if not worse outcomes. Limited war is silliness, it is picking at an infected wound. Ukraine remains a mystery, a Russian self imposed limited war. We can insult Putain for ignorance and hopefully the rumors are true, but he could be "losing" on the world stage   to justify the non-limited or at least the aggressively successful war, planned next. As far as the US, I refuse to support any military action without defined goals, costs and a plan to address those costs (and No-"war on terror" will not count as a defined goal)

There are a couple positive threads on Ratsun, but they get little to no traffic

But seriously I greatly disagree with your statement. Maybe for you, but I've done many things that mattered. I also have no intention of ever giving up or giving in.

Illegitimi non carborundum

But more importantly the moment you give up you let the people in control win.

Yes. Remember this is a piss and moan thread. Most of these topics are pulled from headlines meant to stir emotions and people to pick sides. Which is fine, we have an outlet for pissing and moaning so that it doesn't bleed out into the other threads of people working on thier Datsuns. As far as doom and gloom? There is plenty, but you are responsible for your own happiness so plan accordingly. There is still plenty of good and enjoyable things to do out there with the time each of us have left. I have my own little fiefdom with squirrels and chipmunks as my Serfs. My shop, tools, old vehicles, boats and machinery. Nothing fancy but it makes me happy and I will observe the mayhem in the rest of the world from a distance and try to not let it get under my skin.

I grew up in the shadow of Fort Sill in the 1970s and 1980s. 110 self propelled and 105 towed howitzers used to rock our windows in a way that MLRS can only dream of. Not many controlled burns on Sill but they set the ranges ablaze at least ten times during the dry summer months. I can utilize the ranges on Sill as a broke dick disabled vet *BUT* I'd have to register every gun I bring on post with the provost marshal sooooo I shoot innawoods. Also cannot bring my carry piece on Sill despite Oklahoma being a constitutional carry. Some do but I fugging don't lol.

You can include Pearl Harbor in that. Declassified docs show Roosevelt was briefed that "an attack on Pearl Harbor" was eminent and did nothing. It sure motivated the American people and industry to go to war and win.

In a global war today, there would be no winner, and I believe all Superpowers know this.

Battleships are obsolete, and they have been for a long time

Tanks and armored vehicles are becoming obsolete
At the rate drones and unmanned aircraft are being developed, manned aircraft (fighters) are becoming obsolete

War and the way we're familiar with fighting is more different today than it has ever been. We have never seen a global conflict with such an incredible opportunity to easily create mass casualties.

There is one piece of military hardware although long in the tooth is deadlier than ever. The submarine. From a launching platform for missiles conventional or nuclear or attacking shipping from below there isn't much of a defense against them. Maybe this is what helps deter Putin from slinging a nuke. Within 24hrs the Russian Navy would be a "Ghost Fleet".

China is a pain in the ass but little threat militarily. We need their cheap counterfeited crap from WallMart and Cosco and they need us to buy it. They know which side of their bread is buttered. India to the west hates them, mountains and Tibet to the west and north, Russia and the Gobi desert to the north and Japan to the north east they are contained on every side, but the ocean and the US rules the sea. 99% of China is worse than 3rd world poor and all the wealth is on the coast. There's a good chance the peasants will rebel because of this disparity. They may have already, how would we know???? Everything is failing in China, construction, banking, infrastructure and the best they can do is flood the world with fentanyl and failed ideology.

China has no experience with war, when was the last time they went to war? What technology they have was stolen from the US. Likely they let them steal it so they know what they have. Also it takes decades to raise tacticians and generals/admirals/fliers. You can't teach war from books. There is only one way to gain experience and that is to DO! Now...  Who has been at war for the last what, 80? years? Who IS the expert on war???? Who has the best battle hardened army/navy/air force???? in the world???? Fuck China.

Since I can remember, the US and Russia have always been fighting proxy wars only interrupted by the dissolution of the Russian federation. I've tried to figure out WTF Putin is up to as he can't possibly win. If he were younger he might get somewhere but his advanced age and poor health has moved his addenda forward at reckless pace. Too late, too late, much too late to pull out now. As Sun Tsu said: A cornered foe fights with the strength of 10 men, leave an outlet free. Do not press a desperate foe too hard'. leave an escape route.

International relations is a game. I am neither privy to the rules nor the stated objectives. The unstated objectives are wealth and power and those objectives are most often the same.

Russia had no reason to invade Ukraine. Russia entered into the conflict preemptively. Remember, Ukraine "allowed" Russia to "store" warships in Sevastopol. Russia had control over the "free" Ukraine and could have kept it, quietly, the same way they kept it for however many years.

China has no reason to engage in any type of military conflict with the U.S.A. China has the American economy by the balls. All China has to do is keep squeezing and watch us implode or keep milking our economy, while hardening their economy and influence (cash in king in Western media and politics) until it is difficult to differentiate between China and the U.S.A. The "war"for control is won, without China (directly)firing a shot.

China plays the long game.
