Draker
Oh and the 4 spade connector is like $2.50... Then you can get the six spade one to delete the external regulator also.. for $2.50. Not sure what they are like on the 521 though.. probably the same. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
I just cut the harness off of a bad voltage regulator and spliced it up. Quote Link to comment

flatcat19
Thank you. So, brake question for the 521 guys... Cold, everything works fine. Stops great. Tools smooth. When warm, feels like brakes aren't releasing. Cruising slow, step on clutch to switch gears truck almost stops all on its own. Pedal rod adjustment? Something I'm overlooking? 1 Quote Link to comment

Brakes could be overadjusted.....getting hot then expands and starts dragging..... .........happens to modern drum brake trucks actually...... 3 Quote Link to comment
Draker
Yeah, sounds like brake drag. Feel your wheels after a drive.. I bet some are hotter at the hub than others. 3 Quote Link to comment
4perrev
/\ | True there. They should drag just a touch when cold. Maybe the adjuster or wheel cylinder has a bur in it. Does the adjuster spline on the backside of the wheel slide back and forth freely? I had to grease mine something seriously to break up all the old corrosion. Worked great. 3 Quote Link to comment

Yeah, sounds like brake drag. Feel your wheels after a drive.. I bet some are hotter at the hub than others. They barely dragged on my final adjustment. I'll back em off a bit tonight. /\ | True there. They should drag just a touch when cold. Maybe the adjuster or wheel cylinder has a bur in it. Completely rebuilt the adjusters. Look back a page or two. Every piece of my brakes is new or thoroughly gone-over short of the hard lines. Thanks smart guys. 2 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Drum brakes suck. I'm gonna start a gofundme for 4 wheel brakes. Help finance 1 safer Datsun on the roads you also occupy. 4 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
My rears were doing that...backed them off another 1/4 turn....fixed. 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
My rears were fine after I did those. It's the fronts. I can feel the nose dip when it happens. 1 Quote Link to comment
KoHeartsGPA
They're grabbing good then...springs ok? 1 Quote Link to comment
flatcat19
Everything new...ish. My guess...shoes adjusted too tight. All the causes sound exactly like my concern. 2 Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Never had a problem with drum brakes other than they are terribly inefficient. It's all in the adjustment. Sounds like you have yours too tight. Spin the drum with one hand and adjust with the other if possible, as soon as you feel any change stop there. 2 Quote Link to comment
Busta Nut
I'd assume youd adjust the front a little more loose also.....they get hotter..... 2 Quote Link to comment
datsunfreak
Sounds weird, but also check the spring on the pedal. When it's dragging, see if the pedal can be pulled up and if the wheels stop dragging. Had this happen now on two Datsuns. Worn out pedal spring, causes the pedal to sag, and the brakes to drag. 3 Quote Link to comment
