Mattndew76
No, they would have nuked us, that was what the stealth bomber was for, they were working on nukes, and we got their scientists after we beat them, and used them to build the nukes we droped on Japan. The USA/Britain had managed to secure most of the needed info on NAZI atomic programs before the surrender, and scuttled any attempts for the NAZI's to succeed. It was a race between USA and Germany. Gods fortune that things worked out how they did. The goal was in fact long range devastation on the US main land. The Soviets also had special task forces setup to kidnap all the known physicist tied to these programs. Quote Link to comment
q-tip
Let us not forget that it was the brute force and shear numbers of the Russian army that won it, we just helped. Quote Link to comment
Jesse C.
The German program failed when they started to persecute scientists who where Jewish or deemed enemies of the state. Quite a few of them knew of what was to come and fled the country, and luckily, some came to the U.S. or Britain. The rest where conscripted into the Army. By the time they figured out what they had done, it was too late. The had performed a self inflicted brain drain. At a certain point the allies knew that they where working on a project and that they had to keep the technology out of the hands of the Soviets. Most of the bombing raids that targeted these facilities where to keep them out of the hands of the Russians Quote Link to comment

a.d._510_n_ok
re: Nazi scientists. Werner von Braun's theme song should have been the Beach Boys' "I get around!". I'm pretty sure the US would not have made it to the moon without his expertise and yeah I get that he was not an ideological national socialist but he certainly furthered their cause. 1 Quote Link to comment
