My buddies Mat and Phil have a father and son aircraft shop in Denton TX. They specialize in antique, radial engine aircraft. They went to Ft. Worth Meacham airport and walked in to the CAF hangar. They asked about volunteering mechanical services and the lead mechanic said, "We really have a lot of volunteers and are kind of full. Do you guys do prop balancing?" Phil said, " As a matter of fact, we do." They balanced the propellers on the B-29 "FIFI" and the B-24 "DIAMOND LIL". They are now part of the group, and they are going to take me with them next time.

Small world, I was just there a few days ago. My boss owns one of those planes (the "Southern Cross" DC-3), and his dad owns another one of them (the "Pacific Prowler" B-25)...

The aviation community is a VERY small world. This isn't the first time I have stumbled into something like this. It is one reason I have stayed in this industry all these years. The sound of a radial engine going by makes all the other BS easier to take.

I was so pissed off at the initial reporting of the crash by the media talking heads that had no fucking clue as to what they were trying to report on. The BS was off the scale. Harrison Ford did a hell of a job in a very bad situation. He clipped a tree instead of plowing into it. He almost made a damage free forced landing which is nearly impossible to do in an urban environment. It wasn't a walk away but he probably could have. When playing golf, the saying is "a tree is 90% air". When flying an airplane, not so much. Bravo Mr. Ford.

Not to mention that Los Angeles NBC channel4 "Experts" blew their credibility by blowing their breath [now there's a gentile substitute for reality]in front of a Biplane Stinson and thinking that they had the same kind of airplane! By the way, Harrison Ford did in fact walk away, no sense in waiting for a fuel fire, and waited for the Paramedics. A local golfer was a physician, so tended to the immediate medical situation. The EMTs of course, since it was a plane crash promptly put him in a back board restraint and sent him to the hospital. Bravo! EMTs, you earned your pay that evening!

If you're going to be a 72 year old man crash landing a ww2 training aircraft, a golf course is the best place, there will be doctors there.

It was a THursday! Doctor's day off and onto the golf couse! Have you tried to get a doctor's appointment for a Thursday afternoon appiontment?
