My first jumper...

Recommended Posts

I worked in a grave yard for a few months after I got out of the service back in the 70"s. It didn't really bug me that much. (the dead people) But I was high most of the time so that helped.

I never felt sorry for the one's that took their own life.

The one that is still fresh in my mind after 40+ years was the dude I saw laying on the side of the freeway, One leg torn off at the pelvis. Pretty fucked up shit.

Sorry to say you won't forget that event any time soon.

Iv'e seen dead bodies before, it's a lil freaky but of natural cause it's not so bad.But seeing a body that jumped off a 6 story parking structure is a whole diff level especially when i'm starting off to a good morning on a Friday bumping some tunes. It must of happend over night I'm in that structure everyday and it was too busy with students moving in yesterday. I'm glad I found it before the lot got flocked with familys happy to be sending there kids off to college a few of them probably would of had 2nd thoughts about higher learning.

Seeing a dead body jolts you, but seeing someone die in front of you messes you up for a bit.  My wife witnessed a fatality around 6 weeks ago while driving to work.  A motorcyclist, while merging over to 57S right past Diamond Bar Blvd, ran into the back of a Honda Civic and dumped the bike.....unfortunately he was right in front of a semi.  The tractor drove over him while my wife watched it all happen one lane over.  See saw his body bounce after every axle passed over him.

As for the jumper, as soon as you said Cal State Fullerton I knew they were going to be asian  While living in Hong Kong and southern China, the news always seemed to have a brief clip about someone who jumped, asphyxiated themselves, etc. Jumping seemed the most popular given all the high rises.

I hate driving past bike accidents on the freeway, but yea if I saw it happen I for sure would not be ok. It's the last thing I expected to see while at work

I don't have it in me man, I'm sure all of us at some point in our lives have thought about it (me as a dumbass kid being mad at my parents) but I don't have the balls man, I always just deal with it and let things take it's course and it always works out.

That's one thing I've never considered. Hope I can say that always. If I did plan such an event, it would not include trying to fly. Maybe OD in a forest somewhere.

Dont worry dude, time will help you heal and life will go back to normal. Traumatic events stay with you for a long time, but as time goes on, it becomes easier to deal with.  Trust me , ive seen over a hundred dead people (and not cleaned up in a funeral parlors or of old age and natural causes, but the gruesome ones), also seen a couple of people killed or died in front of me , and like SMOKE, it doesnt faze me anymore.  The only ones that really fuck up my head now after becoming a parent are young kids. Also watching the people jump out of the towers on 9-11-01 still haunt me.

Now I got consoulers calling me to setup an appointment and talk about it, shitty thing to experience man.

What ever you do, seek professional help from a councilor even if you don't want to or don't think you need it. You don't have to tell us or your friends just DO IT. Talking about it helps us cope with the un-copable, round the edges off, make the pieces fit, well you get the idea. Take the time to make time.

What Mike said.  Talk to people, work that shit out.  I still don't understand jumping.  I'd take a bullet anyday.  Less chance of something going wrong and being a paraplegic for the rest of your life due to not quite killing yourself.  Fuck that noise.

Either way, it's a good thing NOT to kill yourself.  Sad some people feel the need to.  There are suicides on both sides of my family.  Sucks, but some people get dealt a shit hand of not being able to deal with things.  I've been sort of close in younger years, but fortunately only thought about it, then decided not to take the easy way out because hey, life can ALWAYS get worse.

Sorry bout the inappropriate joke. I like to lighten up uncomfortable situations with dead pan humor.

I'll never forget my first dead body. It was labor day weekend. Me and three buddies always hung out in this tree house where we could listen to the radio and look at porn.

My fat friend Vern comes in and tells us he heard his older brother talking about where this dead kids body was on the side of the tracks. We decided to go check it out. Long story short, it took two days. We got chased by a dog and nearly hit by a train. Then when we get there some other douches show up to steal our credit for finding the kid (which we were actually stealing from Verns brother). There was a big showdown, and I ended up calling the cops anonymously.

It was a real coming of age story for me. I heard not too long ago that one of those guys got stabbed.

Fucking lolled

It's not something I hope  I continue to see her and become numb to, first and last time I hope. I've got a few coworkers who have seen a few here already...

Yea I don't plan on getting professional help I'd much rather relate to ppl who have gone through it, I know it's there job to counsel people with stuff but I feel like they haven't been through it so they don't really know the effect of it. If I can't deal with it then I'll get some pro help but hopefully I can just get through it without.

My sister is at uc irvine, she says it happens pretty often, but they keep it on the down low for some reason, its a shame, these kids have no where to go, no direction etc, most are asian there, i forgot what country she said most come from

Yea I think it will be hush hush, I looked online to see if there was any news reports on it but I saw nothin. A bunch of other suicides that have happened here came up tho

People who have 'gone through it' may appear to have come out the other side but are still carrying around some PTSD with them. Yes, there is the 'shared experience' of someone who has seen what you have but they are not an expert.  An example... you and a friend, (both 13 say) each discuss driving a stolen car. You can discuss the experience but can't figure out all the rules of the road, how the car works and handles and how to use the safety features from this. For this you need an instructor's guidance.

We have a few of them every year as well. I work for the San Diego Community College system. Earlier this year we had a girl jump from the fourth floor inside the libraries open area. She called her mom to tell her she did not get into the big college she wanted to attend and jumped. She was Asian. She was just 19

The expected levels to perform are almost crippling in their culture. Its almost like failure is not an option.

Sorry you had to see that.

We just dropped my son there on thursday and yesterday morning i read this, hope your doing good cuz that is some shit no one needs to go through. On a brighter note if you take your dime to work don't be surprised if out of the blue some kid starts talking to you about dimes .

Thursday was packed with so many families man it was nuts, I hope your kid dosen't freak out if you told him what happened. But yea I daily my dime and get a few people that talk to me about it from time to time. If he ever wants to check it out tell him it's on gymnasium drive on the north side of the parking structure by the campus police station I always park in the same spot.

As others have said, get professional counseling. You said you dont plan to.Professional counselors/psychiatric people  probably have better ways of dealing with this stuff than people that have just seen a dead body.

Will see what happens guys, as for now I'm just going to sack up and deal with it. If it becomes too much I'll get some help...

Yea it happens, It's a trip ppl will off themselves over school It's not that serious. The way I see it higher learning now days doesn't promise you a good life and well paying job, sucks some are pushed too far by there parents and can't accept not achieving the set standard.

If you asked Chuck Manson if he thought he was crazy he would laugh and say 'hell no let me out'.  When it comes to mental health we are not always the best judge of ourselves and our actions. We think we are fine but weeks or months later something sets us off.

I don't know this 'school' but years ago my wife enrolled in a 'business collage'. She noticed the instructors pushed the weaker ones way too hard. Guess what? They quit. After paying big money for the course, they quit! Money in the 'schools' pocket and one less derp to teach. Pretty sure the 'teachers' were encouraged to thin out the classes.

So this is what's out so far for those of you who wanted pics to confirm my story, this is as close as it will get. I talked to some coworkers today when I did OT today and apparently he was one of the several international students we have on campus at the moment....

So it was my first day back at work today, although I did do overtime this weekend I stayed away from it besides going into it once to get some tools. It was the first day of school today so I went to go clean up trash there this morning accompanied by a coworker who apparently will be working with me for 2 weeks to see how I'm doing mentally. There's been talk about reassigning me to a new area because of the event that happened but I plan on working through it and not letting it cause me to be moved AGAIN. Anyway I told my coworker I wanted to go and look over where I found his body and we did just that, looked down and you can still see water run off and a slight stain of where he was bleeding from his head. Stood looking over for a while and just talked about it then we too off to the 6th floor and looked over from where he jumped and continued talking. From the ground 6 floors up don't look that high but when your up there it's a whole different story, we talked about if he was under the influence, how he possibly might have fell, and how he purposely jumped in a certain area to not be found. My coworker told me that supposedly they found a suicide note in his car dying how he couldn't take the pressure anymore and that it was his way out. He was an Asian International student and his name hasn't been released since his family hasn't been notified. Everyone at work has been asking me about finding the body and if I'm ok and I've been ok talking about it. Later on I had to go back to the structure and make sure it was clean and came across someone with a good sense of humor lol...

You'll get used to the 'humor' here. "Oics or it didn't happen" doesn't mean you have to post any gruesome proof. We all know shit like this and far worse stuff... happens.

I'm used to it Mike it was just bad timing, it was only a few hrs after seeing the body. I've cracked jokes already along with several coworkers it's been helping make light of the situation. I'm pissed off the next day a few coworkers got to catch a couple bumping uglys that's what I've been wanting to catch on campus lol.

Get psychiatric counsel.. merely seeking consolation on an online car forum in place of offered psychological medicine from qualified professionals is mind-blowingly foolish. That's like refusing to have a physical examination after a traumatic car wreck, even though insurance would pay for it. Maybe you could just "walk it off", but is it really worth chancing it?
