Jessamine Co. inmate dies after incident involving drug-soaked underwear

JESSAMINE CO, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have charged an inmate with murder after they say he smuggled methadone into a jail and gave it to other inmates.

Police say Corey McQueary died on August 21 after deputies found him unresponsive at the Jessamine County Detention Center.

The Jessamine County coroner is still investigating McQueary's cause of death, but an arrest citation for one of his cellmates may shed some light. State Police have charged Michael Jones with murder.

The jailer said Jones was in jail for a DUI charge, but had been out on a court-ordered furlough.

According to that citation, police say Jones brought a pair of underwear soaked in methadone back into the jail, then gave pieces of the underwear to his cellmates. Police say that action led to the death of Corey McQueary.
