q-tip
So electric can fly a plane now? Didnt think so. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/impossible-electric-airplane-takes-flight/Boom :poke: Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Not so fast on the "back to internal combustion engine" Way way too much talk (which is cheap) and no action. Was there even any footage... didn't see it. Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
Nobody even thought twice about that name ? 2 Quote Link to comment

paradime
Way way too much talk (which is cheap) and no action. Was there even any footage... didn't see it. No camera on the actual run, but here's the qualifying. Impressive shit. Major advantage of electric in a hil climb like Pikes peak is no power drop off at altitude. 14K oxygen is scarce and mixture is weak. Quote Link to comment
smoke
If I just yanked the muffler off my 521, it would beat that fucker no prob. Quote Link to comment
bananahamuck
That's great but i will wait for VTR to post the 5:54 video of girl in shorts. Quote Link to comment

paradime
Silent but deadly. Is this a motor that would excite you? Personally I don't give a shit about what's pushing me as long as it's fast. Driving starts half way in Quote Link to comment
ericsb210
I am sorry for this, but one more rant: 1rst off I recycle, donate used goods and re-purpose. I am probably what they call a do-gooder. I even have plans on an electric Opel GT. With that said. Electric cars right now are a novelty and probably will remain that way until they figure out a way to find a power source other than a battery (we all know how the electricity is produced that recharges those "green" car batteries). Sorta reminds of "1.21 gigawatts". This way the electric cars can have the range that is necessary and a refueling time that is acceptable. When they finally come up with that arrangement I will render my judgment (which is worthless, anyhow). 2nd I am not in the practice of storing my car batteries around my gas can doesn't seem like a wise decision. Cudos to the car manufacturers they seem to have figured out how to do that safely, I think. Speaking of hybrid cars. 3rd It's just my opinion which doesn't matter any how. Carry on I will step down off of my soap box. 1 Quote Link to comment

smoke
It's fuckin aggravating really. I'm not sure I even give the slightst shit about electric cars myself, but I don't like being bullshitted by big companies, no matter what their product is. Sort of a "hey....who you callin stupid" kinda deal. 1 Quote Link to comment

When they finally come up with that arrangement I will render my judgment (which is worthless, anyhow). Exactly. Thats what the electric planes are as well. I read that article and while interesting, I was already aware of other electric planes. But my point is that there is no electric airliner that can carry many passengers. Apparently they are going to try and build one now which is great but brings me to my second point. Motors. We have some awesome electric motor technology. Battery technology is just barely starting to catch up, and it may never catch up because of the materials cost in building and maintaining and recycling batteries. And that materials/handling cost may come down as well, but a better solution would either to be make electricity so plentiful and so cheap that it offsets the manufacture and long term recycling/maintenance of said battery systems, OR, to make the car produce the energy at the car and turn it into electricity on the spot. Hydrogen fuel cells and other such ideas offer this option, but are also years in development behind the extremely efficient motors and motor control systems that we produce today. If someone does make an electric airliner, then it will push engineers to design more efficient power infrastructure/fueling. Once that happens, I am all down with electric everything. Until then, I will stick with not liking electric cars Quote Link to comment

JoeCool
Watching that electric race car was quite boring. Mainly because there is NO ENGINE SOUND! I am like most people who go back to neanderthal and consider the louder a vehicle is, the more powerful! Quote Link to comment
datzenmike
Not only boring but not that fast either. Better.... Quote Link to comment
paradime
Not only boring but not that fast either? Tell that to the guys on Pikes peak Mike. 0-100 in 5.6 sec, ya that fucking slow... Here's what that's like on board. Boring! Quote Link to comment
laotsu
that's my greatest complaint with electric, the damn thing s sneak up on you. 1 Quote Link to comment
