finney
I just felt like posting a pic. This week, we had a baby girl, but i have managed o sneak a little time here and there. I managed to degrease wagon gearbox + paint - Clutch slave totally fucked - gearbox mount totally fucked pulled gearbox from the 520 truck - good clutch cylinder - good gearbox mount - sitting in a tub of de greaser Upper control arms on the wagon have rusted out -pulled control arms from the truck - also had just replaced the upper spindle bushings in the truck so pulled them out Control arms are similar but the wagon arms are a slightly different shape. wagon arms are approx 1-.5" wider. Should be ok, just need to check the truck arms do not restrict lift -arms sitting in a tub of de greaser Also got another set of callipers - been working on rebuilding a set using the ones i had and these other ones. got most the clips i needed 6 Quote Link to comment

finney
today i fabricated a fastener to hold the battery Cut off a little bit of the driver side door sill Just a little rust….. Wire wheeled and neutralised with Ranex. can see where i spot welded the filler panel for the body drop Did the same with the Passenger side - this side was worse Before the passenger side was wire wheeled it and neatralised Had a massive shed clean up and threw out a couple of trailer loads of junk out of my car port. All in a days work. Love long weekends Also finished de greasing the gearbox mounts and started painting 5 Quote Link to comment

finney
Not been able to do too much this weekend, hanging with the wife and the little one. Still working on getting something done each day. Yesterday mounted engine, today gearbox. Need to find a way to change the pulley on the alternator on this one off my Lexus. Fairly sure the stock J13 Alt will not run my accessories . Thoughts? 1 Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
You can swap a v-pulley onto that alternator no problem. 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
Been a little while since I have been able to work on the old girl. Work - which is drinking beer and running a brewery and a now 10 week old little girl. I marked out the sills on the 520 and started making the first incisions. I then fired up the welder for the first time in a couple of months to find it was shorting out. That put a holt on the first day i planned on working on her. Sunday morning I pulled apart the gun didn't really find any issues but put it back together and now everything is fine. Spent a few hours here and there tacking away. 3 Quote Link to comment

crewy
What about the motor behind that chassis 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
I am guessing Facebook has decided to chance something again, loosing all the linked images. The chassis and the engine in the background - Full chassis build with true cantilever set up and 1uz with IBT's. 27 chev panels as far as the V520 i have been fighting with it during my spare time for the past few weeks. I have fixed every leak in the air system - managed to have it at 145psi for 7 days. I got my axels back from the machine shop - Been there for 6 months. they were at a different shop for 6 months previous to that. drilled out to 5 stud and shortened one side 20mm. Started putting the diff back together yesterday and ran into a whole heap of issues. still trying to work them out. will get there in the end, but having some issues with the spines and also somehow got the measurements incorrect. had to space the rims out with some spacers by 8mm to make some space between the chassis. I guess thats what happens when you try and make custom billet wheels fit a tiny little 6 stud datsun. 3 Quote Link to comment
finney
Axels The machinist welded up the 6 stud holes as 2 of the holes interfered with the old holes - therefore hardening the steel, he ended up having huge issues drilling out the new holes. no idea why he decided to drill out what looks like a extra lot, i could not be F'ed asking, i just wanted them back. the axel I shortened 20mm I expected to slip back into the diff centre, however it seems the splines are now to short, another measurement fuck up. 2 Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
he thought he was making a ten lug? what's up with the little holes next to the lug holes? look a little close to me but i don't deal with steel on a normal work day so i'm probably wrong 1 Quote Link to comment

windowless66
Good bit of progress! Wonder if the guy just stuffed up one of the first holes and wanted to keep things consistent, bit of weight saved at least. Edit:- Just realised you need a couple to access the retaining bolts. 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
Still been pissing around with this diff. Getting there now though. 2 Quote Link to comment

finney
because of the machined face on the axels the studs i used stick out a little past the face. drilled out the drums today. The second drum brake is a hell of a lot easier to put back together than the first time you do it. Also did some work on aligning the rear end as well as I possibly can with a tap measure. All new Brakes Also picked up these steelies and caps off a mate, they have been sitting in a shed for the past few years since getting powder coated. They are all in great condition - The scuffed looking face is actually surfboard way from my car. I will not being running the billets full time, due to unwanted police attention. 4 Quote Link to comment
