finney
Today was spent bending up a number plate box and I almost finished my roll pan. Next up is to work on new brackets to mount the bumperettes and shave the old plate box off the tail gate. 3 Quote Link to comment

fisch
At first I thought the full bumper was the way to go, but now that you frenched in the number plate box, it fills that space perfectly, and this is way cooler than the stock bumper. 2 Quote Link to comment

finney
Thanks for the kind words. The mods to the rear should look fairly subtle when they are finished, not even noticeable if you were not to see the before photos, as I doubt many people know what stock looks like. Started ripping into the rear windows, was an absolute mission to get the frames out and they were in terrible condition once all the rubber was removed, almost beyond repair. The rubber holding the window frames to the body is also a engineering feat, i am fairly sure i will not be able to replace it. I call it a blessing in disguise, a single window glued in is going to look pretty damn badass. Window and frame Window frame removed Also stripped the bench seat, being 6'6 tall and body dropping a car that is already tiny 3" means i need to find some head room. I currently do not fit in the 520 sitting on the stock bench sets and mounts!!!! Hello under there There is a really cool sliding mechanism on the passenger side to allow for passengers to get into the rear. I am going to try my best to make sure that continues to work, at the moment it is a missive hinderance in "quickly" modifying the seat. 4 Quote Link to comment
finney
I have been working on my bench seat all day today, good news, 8 hours later I fit back in the 520 without my head mashing the roof. Close to 4" lower and 4" further back than stock. 8 Quote Link to comment

TENDRIL
the pass. side folds at an angle? 1 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
the pass. side folds at an angle? Yeah, look where the pivot points are. The outside pivot is much farther forward. My F250 extended cab seats are the same way...you can't fold both forward at the same time because they angle inward when folding forward 2 Quote Link to comment
TENDRIL
very cool!! 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
It's very cool, the rest of the bench also pivoted forward on the rails, I spent a fair amount of time trying to keep it working but I needed more clearance. The driver side tilted straight forward, however I welded it solid. I can't see the rear seat being used too often and there is minimal space with the loss of head room from the body drop and the seat being moved right back. I should hopefully have the seat finished and mounted this afternoon. A few tweaks need to be done to the floor. UPDATE: I built a couple of new mounts this afternoon for the seat and lifted it 1" off the floor. Needed to come up a little for carpet and to have the sliding mech working freely. 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
Overall the tailgate looks to be in fairly bad condition. There seems to be a fair amount of filler and a few bits of rust. I will strip the whole thing down to get a better idea. In addition I also fixed a small section of rust in one of the door jambs, drilled out the old mounts for the rear window frames and welded and smoothed the holes. I love holidays. Seat mounts Filler panel for the tailgate Welded and cleaned up a little 8 Quote Link to comment
finney
Rear end coming together, The tailgate is not as bad as I was expecting it to be, A fair few small dents that should come out fairly easily. I might replace the top half of the handle, above the body line. Should have got the dent out in the top corner of the filler panel before welding. should pop out and straighten up that line a little fairly easily. 1 Quote Link to comment

Swedishcadillac
Have you aired up the front with the ass down? I reckon plate will be throwing sparks... That's a good thing!! 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
Thursday update because I can…. Swedishcadillac will lay pinch front to rear when its not on the 19' billets, won't be only the lic plate throwing sparks... Tailgate hinge mounts, bolts all snapped off and full of rust. Rust and mounts cut out 50x3mm flat bar spot welded in for support 1mm sheet bent up, welded in and cleaned up. Also chased down all the pin holes through all my rust repair sections and thats a day gone. 4 Quote Link to comment
wayno
Good work, you made progress that will not have to be done again. I had to do the same thing on my 320, but mine the whole bottom was rusted, and it was bent also, so I had to straighten it and weld in a whole bottom piece, I didn't replace it though as I don't have the tools to bend sheet metal to make a whole bottom, so I just added metal. The other side So I clamped it down against a piece of angle iron to straighten it, made a piece and bolted it in position using the existing hinge mount bolts. Then I tack welded it in position. And it was fitted to the vehicle and functions correctly. Since then I was lucky enough to find this new tailgate and will be using it instead. Keep up the good work, your one of the threads I keep my eye on here. 3 Quote Link to comment
finney
Space for the brake system, I plan on running a Z master, but hopefully have enough room for a small booster if a engine conversion was to happen one day. Brakes system is 520 drums on the rear, toytota pickup disks on the front. I plan on using black raptor lining or the engine bay, should come up very tidy. It also seems the pedal assembly does not need any modifications, which is baffling with a 3' BD. 3 Quote Link to comment
Swedishcadillac
Love this build. Respectfully vote for colormatched or battleship grey shinypaint bay though. Friends don't let friends bedliner... 3 Quote Link to comment
Charlie69
Bed liner is like wrinkle paint gets dirty and stays dirty. It will look like shit after it gets dirty. Paint engine bay say as the exterior and shiny. This ride is beautiful please do not fuck it up now!!! 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
I do agree with not using bed liner. I prefer my engine bays satin black, but I've seen a lot guys unhappy with bed liner afterward. And it's a bitch to remove. I'm also a big fan of the speckled trunk liner look, a la 510 featured on jay Lenos garage. 1 Quote Link to comment
finney
i will be fine :)… trust me, I put a fair amount of work into everything i do and am vey particular. Its not going to be a daily driver and it will probably never see a wet road whilst i own it, where I live. Its not going to be a show car either, just something to enjoy, whilst being clean and tidy. 1 Quote Link to comment
wayno
You have to admit that this engine compartment looks good as body color amd your basically doing the same type build.
