d.p
Haha long way for me to go to do that. Besides I only have the 1 and no plans of adding another if and when I sell it. 1 Quote Link to comment

uberkevin
Cleaned up my firewall, made a new panel with some sound deadening and some suede. I've had some aluminum kick panels for a while so I did the driver side kick panel as well in suede just forgot a picture. Also cleaned my heater core up a bit, other then the finger prints. 😆 I'll find a nice carpet and do that and a little sound deadening. 3 Quote Link to comment
d.p
When you take the heater core do you need to pinch off the coolant line in the engine bay? What I am trying to find out is if coolant comes out when you take the core out? Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Yes coolant comes out. I just drained the whole system. 1 Quote Link to comment

What I am trying to find out is if coolant comes out when you take the core out? It definitely will have coolant in it, it's one of the lowest points in the cooling system... Even drained there will still be some left in the heater core.... Best to drain and even use a little air to blow the remaining coolant out... Make sure the heater valve is open... and dont use a lot of pressure.... Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Also test for leaks before putting it back together.. Kinda a pain in the ass after you put everything back together and the you find out your heater core leaks at the turn valve. Bad gasket. 1 Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
No pictures but I pulled this l20b out. The 620 transmission made things a little harder then normal but got things done with little damage. How much longer is the 620 4 speed transmission compared to the 521 4speed?? And I pull things to fix things. I'm putting everything back where it belong. I have no idea why someone would have done this swap like this. 620 l20b+4speed put into the 521 but welded the mounts back one inch. Any ideas?? Yes I know this will mean I'll need a new transmission mount AND a new driveline. My PNW people, any 5 speeds you may be wanting to get rid of?? Slow Loris
Wanna see how the carpeting situation comes out. Also, what a glorious firewall—mine is a horrorshow compared to yours. I try not to spend too much time even looking at it. I feel like there is no doubt asbestos just shagging right of it it makes me so uncomfortable. Nicely done. 2 Quote Link to comment

I got a little board once I got home from vacation so did a little work inside the 521. Had this stuff laying around so I figured what the hell. Now I need to find a carpet material that I like enough to put in there. Was thinking another layer of some stuff under the carpet. 4 Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Harder than I'd like this to be but I'll figure something out. Heat gun helps just a little but when it get to the transmission tunnel that's when I'm unsure what to do. Getting there slowly. I went with gray because I didn't want to order anything and not a store around me had what I was looking for in black. Any tips? 1 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Most carpet kits come in pieces with the transmission tunnel being the first piece to put down. From there, each side gets another piece that overlaps. Too many compound curves to get it all in at once. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Upholstery shops use steam to form the carpet. Could you rig up some sort of steam machine? Quote Link to comment

Maybe I should have looked this up before cutting haha. Three pieces sounds like it would be a bit easier. But then I'd have to figure out what to do with the end/edge of the carpet. And making a steam machine seems like it could be a little challenging but I'll look into it. Maybe like a at-home dry cleaning machine on Facebook market place or some. Thanks for the feedback 😀 Edited April 23, 2023 by uberkevin 1 Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Getting there. My mother'n law found this handy little steemer, making things go well. Also using so double sided tape. Edited April 23, 2023 by uberkevin 3 Quote Link to comment
uberkevin
Came out pretty good. I think I know what I might do for the next two. 2 Quote Link to comment
mainer311
Typically, contact cement gets used to glue the carpet to the sound deadening material, but man does it stink. I had to use a box fan to blow the fumes out of my garage. 1 Quote Link to comment
Stoffregen Motorsports
Oh, and too late now, but upholstery shears can be bought on Amazon for $20 and make the job go very quickly. Just giant scissors, but that helps make nice straight cuts. 1 Quote Link to comment
