Duncan
Well shit. My last chore on this was to touch up a chip I put in the driver's side cowl. After MUCH trial, error, and frustration, it appears I finally have a repeatable method for blending this paint. Gonna sand it and polish it out tomorrow. I need to get a hold of my insurance company this week. Going to see if I can triple the value of my coverage, then start test driving it. As it sits today..Ready to go! 3 Quote Link to comment
Duncan
Thanks Draker. It's been a big, LONG project. Far from perfect, but I did most of it myself.. Quote Link to comment

tr8er
This is in my top five I'd say. And the color/paint is a big part of that. This is a solid build and finish that I'd also be crazy proud of. Drive the fucker!!! 2 Quote Link to comment

hobospyder
Dude that thing is absolutely gorgeous and you should be proud. One is always the worst critic of ones work, so take anything you think with a grain of salt and accept the praise 2 Quote Link to comment
Duncan
Thanks guys. I just got off the phone with Hagerty this morning. They uprated my value to where I wanted it no problem. Now we just have to do the car shuffle down at the shop so I can get it closer to the door and get it out :) I'll see if I can get a phone video or similar when I take it for a test drive. Maybe next week. It's been raining here today, of course.. 4 Quote Link to comment

Lockleaf
Big applause Duncan. I've been following your build for long time now. Very impressive body work in my book. I one day plan to learn leading body work. Congrats on getting here. 1 Quote Link to comment
Duncan
Thanks again. This is a good start. and I strongly recommend the Eastwood tinning butter. The stuff is real easy to use and works very well. Most of the big guys use an oxy/acetalene rig, but you can also use one of the inexpensive propane or map torches from the home depot. I use both with good results. Big applause Duncan. I've been following your build for long time now. Very impressive body work in my book. I one day plan to learn leading body work. Duncan
Ack. Rain was predicted, so instead of moving cars and driving the goon, I decided to go ahead and start the finish buffing on it. I was planning on doing it at home, but at least it's still being worked on. Impossible to tell in the pic, but it looks very nice, IMHO. There were some swirls, smudges, and some small scratches. The finish compound and pad takes all that out. I use a VERY bright halogen lamp to see the small imperfections while doing this. You can really see the problem areas, but it washes the photo out .. Waiting or an "all clear" from the weatherman before I get this thing out.. 2 Quote Link to comment
Duncan
Another 510 question for you "seasoned" 510 guys. I have 280zx struts and was wondering about camber. Is -1 degree of camber somewhat of an "in the ballpark" adjustment? My friend has a has a homemade gauge where we can set it somewhat accurately, so just looking for an average range. Thanks! 1 Quote Link to comment

Hi mark. Imltho, - 1 neg is ideal for a road car! I’ve run up to -3 on my rally cars; obviously this was for race situations. I’ll wait for the armchair and google experts like DM to contradict me here, however, in now roughly 34 years owning road and race prepped 510’s this is my recommend camber. Obviously you’ll get slightly more inner type wear with increased camber (go figure). Another hint from rally/race setup experience is 510’s (goons or sedans) love positive caster. We use Holden LJ Torana radius rods down here (this is the Ratsun fix) for our race cars, threaded with extra adjustment. Companies in Aus (www.maddat.com) and techno toy tuning in Murica (IIRC) offer an adjustable caster rod setup. Best of luck with the setup! 2 Quote Link to comment

datsunfreak
I like -2.5 myself, but -1 is great for a street car. I don't find the negative camber effects tire wear as much as improperly set toe does. Most tires we use these days (and I'd bet yours are no exception) are built for a much heavier car than a 510 so... 3 Quote Link to comment
Draker
I had the alignment ship do -1.5... but they set it to 0. It wanders a bit..Will fix this year. 1 Quote Link to comment

mrbigtanker
So by now this thing should be on the road. Right Mark? Would love to see this thing getting some vitamin C in the sun looking good. 1 Quote Link to comment
Duncan
Drove it today for the first time. Runs, stops, and steers very nicely. the L20B has a bit more grunt than I remember. The ZX brakes also work very well. My friend has some home made caster tools, and we were able to set the caster to about zero degrees. It's not super sophisticated to set at exact degrees, but it's set close enough to drive for now. I do have a video of it, but I'm on my laptop here in San Diego, and all my links and passwords are on my desktop at home. My friend also held my phone wrong, so I need to find a video converter to rotate the picture 90 degrees :) Ray, if you have a host feel free to post it up here. Some photos of it out in the sun. Remember I'm no photo wiz.. Also, I did some pretty hard lock to lock u-turns with it, and no tire rub at all. it's fairly low already, but I'm thinking I might be able to get away with a little moar low.. 6 Quote Link to comment
