Just spent a few hours today cleaning, sanding, polishing, and painting the center black on mine all by hand. Not quite the chrome like luster I hoped for, but it has a brushed aluminum look and looks good to me! Definitely looks better than the stained and dingy before. (Sorry about the blurriness, I guess my hands were shaky from all the work!)

Just out of curiosity, how did some of you get the shiny chrome look anyway?

Gotta wet sand it down in stages(180-1500) until you end up with a very smooth surface. After that, you go after it with polishing compound until you have a mirror finish. Some people use a polishing ball/wheel for this..

I used to work for a complete troll that told me that it's better to do it by hand. Spent 40 hours polishing it(not even exaggerating..) and ended up with a finish I wasn't all that pleased with. Wish I would've just used a polisher to begin with.
