Icehouse
About a year ago I was surfing CL when I saw and Electric car for 2k, it was a 1980 Renault Lecar factory conversion. Knowing my brother is MASSIVELY green I emailed him the link and told him to low ball the guy. Well a month later it was at his house for 800 bucks :) It needed some work but it was a complete driving electric car, that actually only has 8k original miles on it. My bro drove it through 2 sets of used lead acid batteries before switching to Lithium batteries. I helped where I could, mostly welding. Well it now easily drives over 50 miles and tears tire in the rain! Before with the lead acid it couldn't burnout and was slower than any Datsun I have ever owned. So the lesson learned is 1864 technology is just that, new batteries are so amazing! Just to add this for you non-green dudes he knows he isn't saving the world. O and of coarse its slammed, it's a Hino thing :) Now for the pics Quote Link to comment
hillbillyhector
FOOOOK YEA-YUH. I'm feelin the whole approach. beautiful work on the motor (not engine) bay! (and I know how you feel about the "green-isms" of putting together an electric...everybody's got something to say (good and bad)...but ultimately you said it: "the thing Tears tire"!!!! ...we gotta line up a meeting of the tweaker-minds, you and I Jeff! paradoxx
are those 2.2v batteries? nice job! Quote Link to comment
ggzilla
Midship engine placement! Just how small was the original engine :P Quote Link to comment
Stupid_fast
That thing looks sweet- is it possible to make the motor actually loud? Thats one thing that I dislike about electric, you just don't get the same feeling with no loud noise from the motor. :( However my electric RC car screams. The body design looks very light weight, looks to be a pretty sweet car. :D What type of suspension does that thing run? Funny that you took the photo at a gas station. :P Quote Link to comment
Pedro
Man that thing looks sweet! haha. And who's aqua coloured 2 door 510 next to it in the gas station? Don't recall seeing a thread about that icehouse? Quote Link to comment

]2eDeYe
Damn, that is cool as hell. Is that all we get of the blue car? That thing looks sweet- is it possible to make the motor actually loud? Thats one thing that I dislike about electric, you just don't get the same feeling with no loud noise from the motor. :( However my electric RC car screams. You could find a transmission with straight cut gears. That would make some noise. :D Quote Link to comment

Hector I wish I lived near your shop, I would so write up a resume! You guys build super cool shit and make money doing it. I get involved in quite a few project using my pay is the education though :) are those 2.2v batteries? nice job! They are the "High Power" batteries. I'm not sure the exact voltage, I think they are around 3.5 or 3.8 per cell when they are charged. I'm trying to talk him into a new controller, 400amps is cool but 1000 would be better :) That thing looks sweet- is it possible to make the motor actually loud? The suspension is pretty non existent. It's similar to a mini at the moment, bump stoppers! haha yeah I like the gas station photo. that thing needs laker pipes it would look bad ass and also be verry funny . I told him a hydrogen heater with a purge valve, with something to ignite the purged fuel of coarse. Washington with no heater sucks. 2eDeYe' date='26 September 2010 - 08:45 AM' timestamp='1285515924' post='358803']Damn, that is cool as hell.Is that all we get of the blue car?You could find a transmission with straight cut gears.
