thisismatt
Hey Josh, I'm feeling some seller's remorse over here... http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Genuine-DATSUN-510-Bluebird-Tail-Light-Lamp-LH-RH-1Pair-NOS-JAPAN-/181987240188?hash=item2a5f48e8fc:g:mjkAAOSwa-dWkl9n&vxp=mtr :D Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Crazy!!! Mine are nicer then those also. Lenses loke a little hazy... Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
First mockup of the heat should. I'm going to double wall it with about 0.1875" between panels. I'm afraid to ask but what do you guys think? Look ok so far? 5 Quote Link to comment
thisismatt
Take that as you will... But in all seriousness, I think you should make it more square, or angular, not curved. 1 Quote Link to comment
qship510
IMHO the heat shield could be much smaller and discreet attached to the master cylinder. I can't see any support for the middle of the shield, vibration induced cracking could also be a problem. Engine compartment and manifold look BOSS though 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
I would really like it to block heat to the distributor and throttle cable. That's why it's larger. I also plan on bracing it. Quote Link to comment
maltese
In black, it wouldn't stand out so much. I'm sure you'll make it look right. 1 Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
Project is moving along... Had to clean the shop last weekend.. Removed the seat rails and cut out the shifter box. Redoing it all... My shop mates 510. 8 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Trimmed down stock 240sx boot and seal. Need to get some rings waterjet cut. 1 Quote Link to comment
fisch
Spent a lot of time in this thread yesterday Josh. I had missed so much. Wow man. Constantly trucking on this puppy. I am going to be sad when it is over. (But you will be over the moon!) I was digging back because I am picking up a 2-door that needs the rear replaced, and this thread is an education. It was also cut for flares and I am deciding if I want to go back to stock or do the rabbit thing, since it is already chopped for bubbles. Hey you were making Bump steer spacers once upon a time. Still have any? Soot me a PM with price if so. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Hey you were making Bump steer spacers once upon a time. Still have any? Soot me a PM with price if so. Unfortunately I only get to play with badass machines, don't get access to make parts anymore... :( Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
One thing I'm gonna make is a test model of my new shift boot flange and top plate on a 3D printer :) should help me to get the radius where it rolls over the edge of the tranny tunnel. I'll then have a shop laser cut them and bend for me :) Quote Link to comment

Josh K.
Yup. I no longer work for a "shop". I work for the company that sells them machines. I also provide technical support and training. It's better to be on this side of the industry but the downside is I don't get to make parts on the weekends anymore. 1 Quote Link to comment

q-tip
Unfortunately I only get to play with badass machines, don't get access to make parts anymore... :( Welcome to my world! Well, our machines are what I would call badass, but u still can't make my own stuff. 1 Quote Link to comment
Lockleaf
They don't have demo machines you guys can play with? That does suck. Way to take advantage of it when you had it :) 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Well with what I get paid I could buy a machine if I wanted :) I can use them but it's not like before. We don't have a fully stocked tool crib with every tool imaginable and piles of tooling laying around and a warmed up machine ready to roll..... It's all good though. My car doesn't need anymore machined bits for now. Quote Link to comment

mklotz70
For the level of machine you'd need to use your skills, I doubt you'll be looking to buy one anytime soon. You might end up with a hobby that becomes another job. I thought electronics was cool as a kid.....until it became a job......hated it ever since! lol A hobby machinist is about all I'll aspire......although machining for a living would be a lot more interesting than the crap I do now. Despite this.........I'm all for you getting a machine in your shop and turning out more cool parts!!!!!!! :) Quote Link to comment

I decided to become an electrician so I don't end up hating glasswork. I did it professionally for six years and started to see it happen. Now it's just a hobby that I look forward to. 1 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
New seat mounts... Got a set of Sparco sliders. Eventually I'll buy Sparco Chrono Medium seats. After seeing my buddies celica after the crash I figured better to build bomb proof mounts and buy quality seats. Don't trust those cheap seats in a wreck... Jeff is stopping by tomorrow with my new tranny tunnel shee metal. Gotta finish that next. 4 Quote Link to comment
Josh K.
Jeff stopped by today and dropped off the tranny tunnel from the gobstopper. Now another car has become a part of this one :) It's gonna work out fine. Lots of cutting and hammer work but I'm happy so far. 4 Quote Link to comment
