Rhapakatui
Sorry guys, but i haven't really touched it since the last update. Work has been busy keeping the shop full, and I bought a house with 5 acres taking up all of my spare time. However, I do have big plans. All the frame needs is a trans mount and a carrier berring mount then I can bring it home and start assembly. Thanks for the nudge though. I need motivation sometimes. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Okay, I've got it in the shop. Staying late tonight. Updates soon. Quote Link to comment

Rhapakatui
Ive got two, but i kinda feel like mater sometimes with as much as I do with them. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Got it supporting its own weight again. Stuck in the drive shaft. I'd expected it to be about an inch short, but i figured it'd work. Turned out to be about 1-1/2" short. Now what? Should I run it and maybe extend the dust cover, or start looking to have it lengthened? Guess I'll keep moving forward on the transmission mount and do more research on the drive shaft. Should I run it and maybe extend the dust cover, or start looking to have it lengthened? FWIW, I had this problem on a 510 once. Lengthened the dust shield and drove it like that for 3 years with no problems. I had about 3-4" of engagement, though. Have you measured how deep it is engaged? Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Looks like only about 1-1/4" on the actual splines. I don't really think that's enough. Quote Link to comment

I'm BLUE
Need lengthened or longer yoke. Good driveline shop is worth its weight in gold. Do you need to mount the center support bearing before finalizing the length ? :) Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Do you need to mount the center support bearing before finalizing the length ? :) Great question. I don't know. The rubber in the carrier bearing was shot anyways, so I'm thinking I'll haul the whole thing to a drive shaft place and ask them. So far I've had bad luck guessing on this stuff. ]2eDeYe
You might just take the whole shaft in and have them build you a one pice shaft at the correct length. You won't need a ton of slip because the rear is not going to move with the suspension. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
I thought about that, but if you look in the pic with the shaft in, the dif and the tranny both angle down a bit. I figure I need a two part shaft to make up for the poor lineup. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
As long as the angles are the same you should be ok. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Still no transmission mount. I decided to buy the Infiniti one and mod my frame to mount it. It's80 ish dollars everywhere I look and Christmas kinda sucked me dry. Meanwhile I found a great deal on a set of oldschool cragars and splurged. Gotta love New shoes. They're pretty low offset so I got wider. I'm kinda thinking bozo. I've also built a few BBQ pit trailers lately, and i made custom checker plate fenders for them. I've toyed with the idea of building a set of these that would incorporate one of the steel bumpers that we all have laying around, and going bedless atleast part time. Meanwhile, people are begging me to drink beer. Duty calls. Quote Link to comment
]2eDeYe
Those BBQ's and those Keystone wheels are awesome. Quote Link to comment

Rhapakatui
Minor update. No pics I just ordered some parts. 300zx lower sway bar that will attach to the lower control arms with 240sx end links, J30 transmission mounts, and adjustable rear traction arms. Also decided to turn the old J30 front sway bar (which doesn't work with the new coilover setup) into an upper sway bar to tie the front towers together. When I get all of this stuff in, I will take pictures of it all installed.... then I'll get back to that little drive shaft issue. I think I finally found a shop in Beaumont that can handle it. I hate not having pictures in my updates, so here's some really big spiders I've found in my garage lately. Quote Link to comment

Rhapakatui
Winter in Texas. All the little critters come in to get warm. The two that are captive are large wolf spiders. The one in the corner is an unknown variety, but it could've eaten those other two. We were all too scared to catch it, so I sprayed it with poison and it flipped me off and walked away calmly. 1 Quote Link to comment

ProfessorShanky
Random updates: Making sure the transmission actually fits under the cab. Drilling holes to mount an over-the-top swaybar takes too much time... So Rhapakatui had a better (terrible idea). Yes, that's some sheet stainless. Yes, he decided to torch cut the hole. Its ok though, we had a bottle of coolant nearby... For use as a fire extinguisher. More updates as the night progresses. Quote Link to comment
Rhapakatui
Well, my partner in crime skipped some steps. Earlier I built a transmission mount. Jacked up the tranny and cut out the old crossmember. Turned that to give myself something to weld to. Made some plates. Welded that and mounted tranny. (Huh huh... mounted tranny) Turned old sway bar into an over the top bar. Did 15 odd other things before my boss showed up wondering who was in the shop in the middle of the night on a Saturday. He was drinking a beer which made me jealous so I stopped working, got a beer and a cigarette, and updated my thread. To be continued... Quote Link to comment
bonvo
front tires look very strange in the wheel wells you sure you measured right? Quote Link to comment
