Scale down your pictures before posting!

I know there are a few people on here who aren't "as useless as jpegs to Hellen Keller," to borrow the phrase from Weird Al, but could we start scaling down the images being posted? Even 1024 x 768 isn't that bad, especially if it's just one cool pic like when Fisch uploads. For the rest of us posting images, having 3 megs of pictures to download in a thread makes it really hard to bother reading. And when you're using an antique computer like mine, the graphics card has fits trying to scroll until it all finally loads. (Hey, it's ratsun, I'm poor!)

Mainly it's for those of us on the forums who post pictures fresh off the digicams in a 2048 x 1536 format or larger. Stick those pics in photoshop or MS image viewer and scale them down for pixel size and/or resolution. You'll notice when I post pics on builds or whatever, they're never bigger than 800 x 600 and usually less than 150 kb per image, which makes it a lot easier to load even with multiple pictures in a thread. Plus it saves a metric crapton of bandwidth. (Not to be confused with an SAE crapton.) :)

Just a thought, if anyone needs help figuring out how, I'm sure myself and many others on here can walk you through it over email.

i love big pics, mine dont go off the page, but hey are extremely large and clear in quality, i hate those shitty pics that people upload form their cells phones, maybe you should try upgrading your computer, you can get a decent computer these days for under 500 bucks that will load anything as fast as you want

While most cell phone pics suck (some, like the iPhone are decent), and HRH should upgrade from Windoze 3.x and Netscrape , good quality pics only need to be posted at 800x600. The MicroSloth Resizer is fast and a no-brainer.

I'm running a $400 laptop... And have zero problems loading pics.

Hell, the 10 year old amd2600+ I have, which probably would cost less than $150 to reproduce, doesn't have a problem either.

How archaic is your computer that it gets smoked by 10 and 15 year old technology?

I'll admit to being a big pic offender, mainly because I use the laptop mostly now, and all of my photo editing software is on my dinosaur, and the couch isn't comfy in that room. Sooo....

I am more than familiar with a severe lack of funds, I've been disabled for 4 years now, and have been paying on what was $40K in school and tool debt. Hence, the cheap laptop, and the dinosaur computer.

Try google chrome, it is much faster. And a defrag/virus scan. Clearing your cache is a good idea, and verifying your system is configured correctly and has up to date drivers.

I just cannot fathom that you have a computer that is SO old that big pictures online are actually taxing it.

I use 800x600 because that's photo bucket default but honestly I MUCH prefer big pics over shit cam phone or low quality pics.

Step on into the 21st century though guys, your comp even if years old should be able to handle double or triple that. We should be having this convo over streaming hd video not bs pics lol.

56k, Old Computers and horrible ISP's are your problem. Not the size of the pictures. We have a Emachines desktop with windows xp in the shop office (currently what im using because my year old HP with vista just crapped out) The emachine sounds like its on its last leg and i understand that if I'm reading the "Funny pictures thread" there is going to be some wait time, and possibly a complete lock up. Upgrade or deal with it, its really not our problem.

Oh, yeah....a streaming pile of Ratsun delivered hot 'n' fresh!

I, too, am still running the AMD 2200+ (XP Pro) I built in 2002. Added an ATI Radeon 9800 ($30 off craigslist). It's a bit tired (need to flatten & reload), pero no hay problemo with Comcast.

Vista? Only OS worse than Windoze ME (Mistaken Edition). Flatten that puppy and put Windows 7 on it.

would love to go to 7 but cant afford the disk. I still don't know if vista is the problem or if its a hardware issue. Just ordered the vista disk from hp (because they sent me a picture of one with my laptop) im going to try to reload it and see what happens. I really hope its not hardware. This laptop has given me "Blue Screen Of Death" since i pulled it out of the box.

Vista was REALLY bad on the release, I converted after sp2. It's been the smoothest windows os I have run since 95. People just try and run it with computers that cant hang or are scared from the release disaster lol. 7 is the same shit without the teething, very smooth, added nice features but takes just as much resources to properly run it.

osx is alright I guess, we've already done the mac vs pc thing to death so I'll bite my tongue lol.

Os though is moot here, run anyone you want just run it on a decent computer with real bandwidth and you'll be fine.

I've run my half a decade old backup machine in all it's p4 2gig mem glory and I never have a problem.

My computer can't be that slow, the porn video feed comes in great! :) I might have been over-exaggerating the slowness, though my computer does need an upgrade. I built it with the help of my buddy........in 2000. Yeah, it's kept since college! Running XP now, after 98 SE for the longest time because it never gave me any problems. Neither did 95 actually.

But, hehe, to tell you how pathetically old this computer is, here are the specs:

It's an AMD Duron with 952 mhz, and 386 mb of RAM. And I modified an old 386 case to fit the newer board in it. Oh yeah, dremel city!!! I left the original 2x cd drive in it, as well as the (gasp) floppy disc, which still works! Not the big floppys, the hard compact floppies, f what were they? 2 1/4, 3 1/4? Anyway. AND I have a TURBO button on the front face!!!! That adds at least 5 computer hp.

I should probably do a sweep. It has seemed slower lately. Probably picked up a virus surfing for porn. I mean, my Swedish supermodel girlfriend probably picked up a virus while searching girl on girl action for us. :D

Oh my god, Salma Hayek is FUCKING HOTTTTT! I'd bounce those things like I was Sugar Ray Leonard!

And here is a picture of my awesome machine! I'm not kidding, it's really what I'm using to communicate. Maybe Sputnik has a spare computer they're not using. I should ask to borrow that!
