72240z
I have to look the shit up on their site first before I go in. There is no point at all in calling first. Ya I just look up the part number and go to my girl. Never had a problem that way. Quote Link to comment
FujiyamaMama
I usually have no problems, I go in there with the right attitude and the guys usually help me. Plus they know me as the chick with the bitchin 510. One time I got great service because I gave the girl make up tips! Quote Link to comment
Duke
There are 3 parts stores around here that I will go to. None of them belong to one of the "major" chains. I hate supporting places who don't care if their employees know what they are talking about. When I worked at bike shops if you didn't know what common parts were and basic mechanical operations you most likely weren't going to working there for long. It is obviously different when it comes to these places. Quote Link to comment
DISLEXICDIME
i always go to phil because he knows his shit ;) Quote Link to comment
moparvwfreak
i hate vatozone. but there are times where i am forced to go there due to them having th parts, where everyone else it'll take them a week or more to get it. there again on moms car thats where i get some of her stuff because she wants her car fixed cheaply. Guest DatsuNoob
Sorry to hear about that Bonvo. The one by my house is usually top notch, except for one dummy that works there who I can barely understand since his speech impediment is so bad. I was looking for a UCA pivot shaft kit, and he kept trying to sell me ball joints. Not trying to poke fun at people who have physical problems, but a guy has to wonder what the hiring manager was thinking putting a guy like that behind a phone and computer to deal with the very detailed, specific needs of the public. The place I have a real problem with lately has been Schuck's/O'reilly. They're dumbshits. I spent a good chunk of time driving all over hell and back to get the wrong hose for the Z. She ordered it, it didnt show, drove to distribution warehouse, got it, was wrong, had to go back to the place across town and return it. I hate incompetent counterpersons Quote Link to comment
HRH
Did I mention I work at NAPA? :D Thank goodness I don't work for the other guys. Except Motion and the other independent auto parts houses. They're cool. Here's a scary thought though. Before too long, you may have the pleasure of dealing with only idiots found at Crapozone and Schmucks/Oreillys. You know why? Business model. Why pay someone a decent wage when you can write the program, and have any idiot look up parts on a computer? It takes marginal brains to look up parts on a computer. What's worse, even NAPA is trying to cut costs, which means not having countermen around for 20+ years anymore. Sooner or later, they're going to try and do the driver/counterman thing for shit pay, and that's the service they're going to get in return. Shit. I fight that crap every day at NAPA. You know our district manager wanted to get rid of the catalog racks? Fuck, I had to squirrel away all the really old 2000 catalogs just because they have parts information in there that you can't find on the wondeful fucknut computer. Like the tail light sockets I mentioned in the 510 section. Took me a few minutes of digging and knowing what to look for before I found the parts that were "unavailable." Bonvo: What's your address, I'll send you my original voltage regulator if you want. Still works, I replaced it a while back just for the hell of it. Next replacement is an IR alternator. OpelWagenGT
throughout my datsun project I have learned to become best friends with the guys at car quest. I got something as simple as points from schucks and they were the wrong ones. So I returned them and walked over to car quest and guess what, the ones they had were exactly right. Shucks bugs me and autozone don't even get me started with them. Quote Link to comment
MicroMachinery
Damn. You guys got it rough. I live in a small town w/ a Napa and a Carquest. I don't even go NEAR the Carquest.. The head guys at Napa are dudes that went to high school w/ my Mom! They got jobs there during high school, and have been there ever since. They're awesome, know their shit, and if they can't something for me, they know EXACTLY who to call to get me what I need. Guess I'm blessed. Quote Link to comment
Madness
I worked at checker for 2 months. When I quit I told the manager I was sick of picking up the slack. Went into work one day and asked Fluffy (One of my co-workers, He got me the job) If he could look up a 67 bug water pump for me. I told him i was looking to buy one but was told the water pump was rare and expensive. He ended up calling another store which told him to look it up in the books below the counter (playing along with the joke) and he actually called a VW specialist in Boulder  Everyone he called played along until the manager asked him what he was doing. Later on that day, with the joke fresh in everyone's mind, A guy came in looking for a knock sensor. I found the part number and pulled it off the shelf by the time the counter jockey realized it wasn't another joke. I walked in knowing how to rebuild and engine, the other guy that was hired the same day wore a suit and tie and ran a recording studio in his basement. He rode a bike to work... Quote Link to comment

I'm BLUE
NAPA (Favorite!) and a very well respected CARQUEST in my area are my choices ( An old flagship that has been around a while and can be a bit pricey , but the guys that work there have been there forever and understand what is actually going on :) Even RockAuto changed their business model not long ago ! ( the buy-out from Marshall I personally believe they shut down the warehouses , and are shipping products to customers directly from retail places/suppliers ! Receiving multiple packages with different parts stores/outlets gave me the first hint  . Knechts , Autozone , and Schucks I rarely have luck with in my area <_< , but that's just my area  Quote Link to comment
hang_510
there is a guy w/a 240 @ the local VZ, still isnt knowledgeable enough to understand that a (datsun) part is compatible w/ 20 other cars  unless I know what I want, they are useless. not looking good for the trip up there ill have space of the roof of the goon (cuz ima have it done this year!) :P or you can fight my boy for shotgun  Quote Link to comment
